It had to come eventually. National Public Radio simply could not keep from using Saturday's Tucson massacre to do some race-baiting and to bash Arizona's attempts to control its souther border. NPR brought on Daisy Hernandez, former editor of ColorLines magazine, on Wednesday to express her "brown relief [that] the Tucson killer turned out to be a gringo"

An advertising firm in Miami says its online "Gringo Mask" addresses the "absurdity" of Arizona's controversial new immigration law. The Arizona law requires police to detain anyone whose immigration status may be suspect. Michelle Zubizarreta of Zubi Advertising, one of the nation's leading Hispanic ad agencies, says that means dark-skinned Hispanic people are more at risk of being detained than gringos, slang for white people. "What caught our attention was the absurdity of this law, and the notion that we all must look a certain way," said Zubizarreta, who owns the firm with her brother Joe. Zubi's creative team has...

The report issued by Reporters Without Borders (RWB) is positive for the U.S., however, the issue of national security, seems to be one of the biggest problems for United States reporters seeking information from the government. But that pales when you compare the problems Mexican reporters have in covering the news, especially in the border areas with the United States. Reporter Angela Kocherga gave this first hand report: "Mexico is one of the most dangerous places to work as a reporter these days, we see that by the ranking and see that played out in the field. Now the Majority...

MEXICO CITY — After RadioShack dropped out, a new U.S. corporate sponsor has stepped up to put a voodoo hex on the U.S. national soccer team and end Mexico’s decade-long losing streak. Blockbuster stores in Mexico City began trading Record newspaper coupons for voodoo-doll likenesses of U.S. soccer players Friday, which, according to instructions, were to be used to wish for a Mexico goal during the World Cup qualifier Wednesday in Columbus, Ohio. The back of the dolls’ jersey reads, "Gringos." Fort Worth-based RadioShack dropped out as a distribution partner last week after learning details of the campaign. But the...

BOSTON — A Boston firefighter is mending from what could have been deadly stab wounds he suffered early yesterday morning when he was allegedly jumped in East Boston while off duty by a group of Hispanic males who told him they "don't want any gringo here." Though police are not classifying the incident as racially fueled, the Boston Police Department's Community Disorders Unit is investigating. The 32-year-old jake, whose name officials were not releasing, is white. Ironically, the firefighter's life was likely saved because he sought refuge from his alleged assailants at Engine 5 on Saratoga Street - the station...

Is it acceptable for stores catering to Hispanics to use racial epithets when referring to Caucasian residents of the United States? Apparently so. According to the Washington Times online edition, a furniture store located in Alexandria, Va., has posted a sign calling Americans 'gringos'. The Times reports that,

A Casa Furniture and Bedding store in Alexandria has been advertising easy credit with a twist: “no gringo papers” necessary. A sign outside the store at the intersection of North Beauregard and King streets reads, “Credito sin papeles de gringo.” In English, that could be translated to say “Credit without gringo papers.” Blanca Granados, the store's assistant manager, translated the message to mean “just 'without white papers,' like Social Security or like that.” Miss Granados said the store requires customers who purchase furniture on credit to fill out an application and provide personal documentation. The store will accept a passport...

San Juan Del Sur Maggie Anthony, an interior decorator from Nashville, appears surprisingly calm and confident for a U.S. mother about to watch her son be tried for murder in Nicaragua. "I feel good about it; I know he is innocent," says Anthony, referring to the Jan. 26 trial that could put her son, Eric Volz, behind bars for the next 30 years. Volz, a 24-year- old real estate agent and publisher of a tourism and fashion magazine called El Puente (The Bridge), is charged with murdering his ex-girlfriend, Doris Ivania Jimenez, a beautiful young Nicaraguan woman who was found...

This is something we can do without having to take off work, coordinate, organize. We insist that our dollars do not subsidize illegal immigration. A list can be compiled here if necessary of firms that notoriously hire illegals. But even at the individual level, if we contact a landscaping firm, ask if the workers are legal. They would have to know if they have social security numbers. If they hem and haw, call another number. Same goes for other businesses. Does a local grocery employ people who don't speak a word of English? Ask the manager as to their status....

So we know about the protests against illegal immigration reform. But just how far is it going to go with protests for allowing illegal activity, and whose next in their desire to protest? Find out here with this editorial cartoon.

MEXICO CITY Hundreds of Mexican union members took to Mexico City's streets today to back Mexican migrants living and working in the United States. They're also showing support to boycotts U-S goods in Mexico in what's called a "A Day Without Gringos." At least a half-dozen state governors in Mexico endorsed the boycott of McDonald's, Wal-Mart and other U-S firms here. But measuring the impact of the actions was likely to prove difficult. Mexico celebrates May First as the International Workers Day holiday, when business is usually cut to a fraction of normal levels. Federal officials have tried to distance...

"Mexican workers hold signs reading 'Don't Buy Gringo Products. Long live the Boycott,' as they demonstrate in Mexico City, Friday April 28, 2006. A demonstration Friday by thousands of Mexican workers to promote union solidarity turned into a protest against America's vast influence on the nation's economy, with many protesters saying they will take part in a boycott of all things 'gringo' next week. MEXICO CITY — U.S. lobbyists lashed out Wednesday at the Mexican "Nothing Gringo" campaign timed for May 1 to coincide with the "Day Without Immigrants" boycott in the United States. The American Chamber of Commerce in Mexico said organizers are risking a backlash and foolishly targeting some of their best allies, since U.S. corporations have actively lobbied the U.S. Congress for immigration reform including legalization for many of the estimated 11 million undocumented migrants. CountryWatch: Mexico Mexicans' refusal to "buy American" on May 1 could further polarize the debate and make reform supporters seem anti-American at the very moment that...

What you have to do, don't shop or buy anything for the rest of April. Save up your funds for May 1st. Note businesses that are closed on May 1st or are short staffed and post them on FREE REPUBLIC. These are business benefitting from illegal alien labor or are supporting the illegal alien rallies by closing entirely.

Mexicans see Americans as racist, dishonest and exploitative, while Americans see Mexicans as hardworking and think they are more tolerant than Americans. A new survey of attitudes the two countries hold toward each other showed the border is more than a geographic divide, but also a fissure in public opinions of the two nations and what their citizens think of each other. The poll, taken by New York-based Zogby International and the Centro de Investigacion para el Desarrollo AC in Mexico City, found that 62 percent of Mexicans surveyed said the United States is more wealthy than Mexico because "it...

Dear Mexican, Why do Mexicans call white people gringos? It was the type of impolite question few people would dare ask in everyday Southern California, much less in print. "Dear Gabacho," began Gustavo Arellano's answer in the OC Weekly alternative newspaper. "Mexicans do not call gringos gringos. Only gringos call gringos gringos. Mexicans call gringos gabachos." Arellano went on to explain that gabacho is a sometimes pejorative slang term for white Americans, with "its etymological roots in the Castilian slur for a French national." "Ask a Mexican," the newspaper headlined it. The column, published in 2004, was meant as a...

Try driving around as a Gringo in Mexico with no liability insurance..... and have an accident... Enter MEXICO illegally. Never mind immigration quotas, visas, international law, or any of that nonsense. Once there, demand that the local government provide free medical care for you and your entire family. Demand bilingual nurses and doctors. Demand free bilingual local government forms, bulletins, etc. Procreate abundantly. Deflect any criticism of this allegedly irresponsible reproductive behavior with, "It is a cultural United States thing. You would not understand, pal." Keep your American identity strong. Fly Old Glory from your rooftop, or proudly display it...
