Would you vote for a law that makes criminals of many neighbors, relatives and friends? Initiative 594 would do exactly that. #In their zeal to impose “universal background checks,” the creators of I-594 have written a law that would require nearly all “transfers” of firearms to be conducted at the premises of a Federal Firearms License dealer.

Numbers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and the FBI, show that Americans are roughly 159 times more likely to be struck by a car and killed than shot and killed in a mass shooting.

Kroger shareholders are conducting their annual meeting in Cincinnati today, and Moms Demand/Everytown has announced plans to “confront” them. The “Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America” will raise their concerns and their voices at the Kroger investor’s meeting Wednesday morning.

Former Clinton White House Deputy Director Fred DuVal (D) is running for governor of Arizona, and if he wins, he will put his support behind the implementation of Colorado-like gun control. In March 2013, Colorado's legislature passed new measures barring private gun sales in the state. The measures require a law-abiding citizen who sells a gun to another law-abiding citizen to do so in the presence of a Federal Firearms License (FFL) holder, which demands a background check. The measures also place a new fee on the sale of the firearm to cover the cost of that background check.

There is no single change or law that will eliminate every act of gun violence, but there are proven, common sense measures we can take to protect our families and make our communities safer. For example, here in Oregon, we don't require criminal background checks for all gun sales like those that happen online. Dangerous and/or violent convicted criminals easily exploit this loophole to buy guns from strangers online — anonymously, and with no questions asked.

One thing the NRA agrees with on Everytown, however, is that I-594, while a state initiative, is a pivotal battle that could decide the course of the war over gun control versus gun rights in the nation. “If this is successful in Washington State we can expect to see a cut-and-paste job in other states all over the country where they will try to replicate this,” Mortensen said.

Super Model Chrissy Teigen put her foot in her mouth a bit following the shooting at Canada’s Parliament this morning. The model took to Twitter to attempt to use the incident to criticize the US for its gun culture, however she basically just ended up pissing off everyone in existence.

As millionaires and billionaires continue to push universal background checks and handgun registration in Washington state, their donations for Initiative 594 (I-594) have reached "nearly $9.5 million."

I-594 has been cleverly drafted to sound like it merely makes small changes to gun laws, not a flat-out ban or gun registration scheme. This is why it is so dangerous. People are less likely to oppose it; in fact, polls show that even a majority of gun owners - 54 percent of the 35 percent of Washington residents who own a gun - are in favor of it.
