LOUISVILLE (AP) Days after securing a re-election match-up with a wealthy Kentucky Democrat, U.S. Sen. Rand Paul declared his support for allowing guns in every school, movie theater and supermarket in America in a speech to the National Rifle Association. Paul did not mention his opponent in Novembers general election, Lexington Mayor Jim Gray. Instead, he focused most of his speech on displaying his pro-gun bona fides and urging the elimination of all gun-free zones, including public schools. Look, Ive got children. I cant imagine one of my kids being killed at school by a deranged killer. But, as...

The National Rifle Association has endorsed Donald Trump for president at today's convention. Chris Cox, the executive director of the NRA's Institute for Legislative Action, made the endorsement immediately before Trump walked on stage. "Now is the time to unite. If your preferred candidate dropped out of the race, it's time to get over it," Cox said earlier in his remarks. The news of the endorsement came shortly before Trump addressed the group at their convention in Kentucky. Advocates of overturning the right to keep and bear arms have spent years deliberately turning innocents into victims of slaughter, all for the purpose of eventually disarming the American people. Do as I say, not as I do, gun-control zealots were predictably out in force after the Sandy Hook killings. After all, in the perverted mind of confiscation advocates like Michael Bloomberg and Barack Obama, the murder of 20 kindergarten students represented a longed-awaited opportunity to embarrass the more weak-kneed defenders of the 2nd Amendment into relenting to a nationwide assault against the foremost liberty of the American people. In...

You can call it a God given right or a natural right, but each individual has an inherent right to life and to sustain that life. The instinct for self-preservation is built into our DNA. When confronted with a threat our pupils dilate, our heart rate increases and blood is diverted from the digestive system to the muscular system. It is the fight or flight reaction. Do we have a right of self-defense? As John Locke said, In transgressing the law of nature, the offender declares himself to live by another rule than that of reason and common equity, which...

It showed that even in Obama’s Chicago, more guns mean less crime and, in this case, one less career criminal. It also shows that opponents’ fears that concealed carry laws will mean carnage in the streets as garden-variety disputes escalate into a proverbial gunfight at the OK Corral are false. We know that gun-free zones can work to prevent gun crimes so long as nearly impenetrable fortresses manned by armed guards surround them. Thats why so few inmates are killed with guns by other inmates in Federal prisons. Of course, the lack of gun-related deaths in prisons doesnt mean that crime overall is reduced in the gun--free zone but that doesnt matter because the whole concept of gun-free zones is an exercise in symbolism over substance. Think about it: rapes are often perpetrated using brute force or drugs but would anyone think posting signs declaring pickup bars to be no-rapist...

The horrible tragedy last night that left nine people dead at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C., probably could have been avoided. Like so many other attacks, the massacre took place in a gun-free zone, a place where the general public was banned from having guns. Indeed, the circumstantial evidence is strong that these killers dont attack randomly; they keep picking the few gun-free zones to do virtually all their attacks.

HARRISON, Mont. After Spencer Ore was banned from a Montana high school in 2013 for bringing two pistols to campus and was accused of making threats, his parents sought help with the hope that one day he'd reintegrate into society. Margaret and Stephen Ore visited him every weekend while he was in juvenile detention. They invested in nearly two years of treatment for underlying behavioral problems. When his doctors and probation officers said Spencer, now 16, was well enough to return to public school, the Ores moved across the state to enroll him at a school in quiet, rural...

A township in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania has put up signs proudly announcing that it is not a gun free zone. Conoy Township had put up four signs and was planning on putting up 10 more. From wgal.com: Township officials said the signs are meant to deter crime. Police in the township aren't taking a position on the signs themselves, but say they're for anything that deters crime. Comments at the facebook page are overwhelmingly approving of the measure. Here are a few: Carol White I am a resident and I don't mind at all that money was used for...

Splattergate II: Green Graphic Novel Celebrates Eco-Terrorism Shopping Mall Killing Spree When is it acceptable for a terrorist to go berserk in a shopping mall and machine gun innocent victims to death? When it's all being done for the noble cause of environmentalism, of course! Such is the take-home message of an award-winning graphic novel which has been praised by a top scientist at the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) as "a marvellous way to convey the knowledge accumulated by our scientific community." It has also been recommended by a curriculum developer at the US National Council of Teachers...

Loudon County commissioners voted 10 to zero Monday night to take down warning signs that prohibit firearms inside the county's office building. This idea was pitched by recently elected Loudon County Mayor Rollen "Buddy" Bradshaw, who says this move is all about safety. The signs were taken down Tuesday morning only at the county office building off River Road. Mayor Bradshaw says the ban on guns inside county offices was outdated. "What the gun signs in effect did was disarm a law abiding citizen, and I didn't feel comfortable being a part of that," said Mayor Bradshaw. "I think this...

On July 24th, Dr. Lee Silverman, a Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital Psychiatrist from Darby, Pennsylvania saved the lives of uncounted hospital workers and patients by shooting Richard Plotts, a mentally disturbed patient and felon. While in Silvermans office, Plotts pulled a hidden gun and killed Theresa Hunt, a 53 year old hospital caseworker who had accompanied Plotts to Dr. Silvermans office. Upon the shot being fired by Plotts, Silverman ducked behind his desk, pulled a pistol he keeps in a drawer and returned fire, hitting Plotts three times and ending the criminals would-be killing spree. Plotts was in critical condition and...

Psychiatrist Lee Silverman worked in a gun-free hospital, but pulled out a gun in his desk to subdue an armed patient, who had just shot his caseworker. The case renews the issue: Should doctors and teachers be armed? A mental-health caseworker is dead and a doctor and his patient wounded after a bizarre gunfight at a gun-free-zoned hospital in Yeadon, Pa., near Philadelphia, Thursday. As police prepare murder charges against the wounded patient, focus is shifting to the gun-toting psychiatrist who stopped the mayhem, likely saving other lives.
