by Gina Cassini | Top Right NewsN.J. Logan is not to be trifled with. This 80-year old Tampa grandma was resting her new hip after recent surgery upstairs in her home, when she heard a "commotion" downstairs and quickly realized it wasn't her husband, who was out playing bridge. So she grabbed her gun, and ran to the steps. “I don’t know what was going on in my mind. Honestly, all I wanted was my gun,” she told WTVT-TV, adding that she “really didn’t want to have to shoot anybody.”

There’s an excellent column at Real Clear Politics this weekend from Steve Chapman which I wanted to draw your attention to. It deals with the gradual evolution of gun laws in the United States – particularly in some of the least gun friendly, liberal bastions – and the role of the courts in this gradual migration. Gun-control advocates are learning the downside of getting their way. Recently, a federal judge struck down the District of Columbia’s ban on the carrying of concealed handguns. Anti-gun forces have been losing in legislatures for a long time. Now they are finding that even...

The Supreme Court has turned aside all Second Amendment challenges since a pair of landmark rulings in 2008 and 2009 confirmed the rights of individuals to keep and bear arms. But some believe a California case could make the high court return to the controversial area and determine whether gun ownership rights extend beyond the corners of one's home. [Snip] In February, a divided three-judge panel of the Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals ruled in Laxson's favor concluding that as responsible citizens she and the other plaintiffs have the right to carry a concealed weapon for self-protection. The San...

by Jason DeWitt | Top Right NewsA Houston-area crook tried to bust down a door at a residence - trying with a running start several times. Then suddenly something he sees on that door makes him run -- fast -- away from that same door and into the night. Looks like something seriously freaked-out this would-be burglar. KPRC-TV in Houston paid a visit to the house in Texas City — and discovered what it is he saw.

On July 25 Breitbart News reported that Massachusetts police chiefs wanted "sole discretion" over who can purchase a long gun, be it a rifle or a shotgun. On August 1 state lawmakers passed a bill that gives police chiefs such discretion. According to Reuters, police chiefs already had final say on would-be handgun purchasers, and the new law would extend that by providing them with "the authority to turn down a resident's request to buy a rifle or shotgun." House Speaker Robert DeLeo (D) commented on the law: "We seek not to be the safest state in the nation but...

Police: Gunman and victim in Loop shooting 'had been friends for years' By Marwa Eltagouri, Alexandra Chachkevitch and Meredith Rodriguez, Tribune reporters Less than a week after Tony DeFrances learned that he was being demoted as part of a downsizing of his company, authorities said he walked into his boss’s office Thursday morning for a one-on-one. Apparently upset about his demotion, DeFrances, armed with a gun, confronted CEO Steven LaVoie, a longtime colleague and friend at the supply technology firm ArrowStream in the Loop, police said. At some point, DeFrances, 60, and LaVoie, 54, struggled over the gun. LaVoie was...

by Gina Cassini | Top Right NewsIn response to the ridiculous ad from Everytown For Gun Safety that tries -- and fails -- to scare women out of defending themselves, a grassroots group has come out with a hilarious parody to show how women should really handle it.Grassroots network Liberty Pennsylvania's ad effectively skewers the Mike Bloomberg-funded group's lame attempt, which I profiled this morning. These battling ads show the utter futility of the gun-grabbers' attempts to convince Americans to give up their weapons of self-defense. And thankfully, women simply are not listening. According to a survey conducted by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, 77%...

A suspected child molester whose case was recently featured on CNN's The Hunt With John Walsh was killed in a New York City shootout on Monday. Sexual-assault suspect Charles Richard Mozdir exchanged fire with a fugitive task force Monday in Greenwich Village, leaving the suspect dead and two federal marshals and a police detective wounded, authorities said. Mozdir was arrested in California after the now-7-year-old son of two close friends told his parents that Mozdir touched his private parts while the suspect was taking care of him, CNN reported. A $1 million warrant was issued for Mozdir’s arrest after he...

I’m a bit miffed, I’m not gonna lie. Not for myself mind you, but for a little four-year-old boy who has the distinct misfortune of residing with a mom who fears guns. Allow me to explain; in this morning’s Washington Post “On Parenting” there’s a piece by Zsofia McMullen. The title of the piece is: “My four year old loves toy guns and I don’t know how to parent that.” In it, she describes in great detail, her son’s infatuation with gun play and pretend violence. The piece starts out innocuously enough, with a detailed description of the little boy’s...

No surprise: effective immediately, DO NOT CARRY IN DC. The Court has given Washington, DC a 90-day stay on the ruling that nullifies DC’s “no carry of handguns” law. DC will now be hustling to come up with some kind of carry law. Based on the tyrannical government there, you can bet it will be as restrictive as they can possibly make it. After all, why would they want to make DC safer for its citizens? VCDL will continue to monitor the situation there.

A man with a concealed carry permit shot at an armed robbery suspect who was running from a cell phone store in Crestwood, prompting an officer who was also chasing the suspect to take cover, police said. The man with the permit told police he was about to step inside an AT&T store at 4756 W. Cal-Sag Road around noon Saturday when he noticed the store was being robbed, Crestwood police said in a statement. The man said he stayed outside to prevent anyone from entering, police said. After he saw the suspect leaving through a back door, he entered...

Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) in Cleveland, Ohio, has "beefed up security measures" after four students were robbed in one of the university's commons "in broad daylight" this past weekend. The CWRU online student handbook clearly "prohibits the possession of firearms" on campus. According to Cleveland.com, the students were studying in CWRU's Wade Commons around 4:30 in the afternoon, when "three men, with hooded sweatshirts tied around their face and red bandanas, came into the RedCats room, pulled out a silver handgun and demanded belongings." On June 10, a woman walking on campus in front of the business school building...

In more good news coming out of the Middle East today, hundreds of thousands of weapons given to Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) by the United States, including machine guns, are missing. According to a report issued earlier this month from the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) titled Afghan National Security Forces: Actions Needed to Improve Weapons Accountability, nearly half of weapons issued are unaccounted for. "Controls over the accountability of small arms provided to the ANSF are insufficient both before and after the weapons are transferred. Accountability over these weapons within DOD prior to their transfer to...

It’s a picture-perfect summer day, bright sun, sparkling skies. And here I am, stuck waiting for another press conference in another stuffy meeting room. Up front stood a bundle of boys and girls, 25 or so, preschoolers in pigtails, strapping youths sporting football jerseys, assembled at the podium, to pose with the politicians and preachers. What’s wrong with this picture? These kids should be in play lots, parks and backyards. They should not be props at a photo op at a West Side church, waiting for the boring adults to make boring their speeches. Perversely, this is the best place...

MOBILE, Alabama -- On Friday afternoon a tense scene played out in front of the Rouses Supermarket on Theodore Dawes Road. Three people drew their guns after a reported theft, a Mobile Police Department spokesman said. Donnie James Moore, 60 had shoplifted steaks from the grocery store before officers arrived at 12:20 p.m., according to MPD. When a loss prevention officer tried to stop him, Moore shoved past him. Moore made it to his car, where he grabbed a gun. He pulled it on the officer, MPD spokesman Officer Terence Perkins said. The loss prevention officer stepped back and pulled...

Social conservatives feel betrayed by the popular culture, and why not? If Hollywood depicts someone with a gun or a Bible, he's a figure of ridicule, entitled to say with Rodney Dangerfield: "I don't get no respect." (But Rodney's was an act, and he got paid for it.) The coastal "sophisticates" mock the rubes, as in an episode on "True Blood," the HBO series with werewolves, vampires and theocratic bloodsuckers, which depicts two rich Republican stereotypes at a Ted Cruz fundraiser at the George W. Bush Presidential Library in Dallas where a massacre follows. What fun. Relief is at hand....

Armed Doctor Who Opened Fire on Active Shooter in Hospital Shooting Could Lose His Job July 25 2014 by Dan Cannon Share This Post As we reported yesterday, it would seem that an armed doctor in Pennsylvania prevented a possible mass shooting at the hospital he was working at. The doctor managed to land several chest hits on the suspect after he had shot another person and wounded the doctor. However, despite his heroic, likely life saving acts, the doctor (identified as Lee Silverman), may end up unemployed as gratitude. According to the Employee Code of Conduct for Mercy Health...

by Gina Cassini | Top Right NewsIt's not a good year for anti-gun nuts to make their case against concealed-carry handguns.First of course we have the businesses who stupidly banned such guns from their establishments, from Jack In The Box to Target to local restaurants -- and immediately were victimized by armed criminals who knew they would face no resistance. Then we saw the bar owner who openly welcomed customers packing guns, and saw a huge boost in her business. Now comes the incredible story of a concealed carry permit holder in Iowa who helped police nab five men who led officers on...
