COLUMBIA Statehouse lawmakers will be in session less time in 2017 and Georgia gun permit holders can now carry their weapons in South Carolina after Gov. Nikki Haley on Friday signed dozens of bills passed by the General Assembly into law. After about 20 years on the table, lawmakers this year voted to shorten the legislative session by three or four weeks, depending on how the calendar falls. Legislators will head home on the second Thursday in May, instead of the first Thursday in June, beginning next year. In 2018 and some other years ahead, the session would be...
  • South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley Warns Donald Trump: I Know What That Rhetoric Can Do

    06/03/2016 8:59:57 AM PDT · by ChicagoConservative27 · 68 replies
South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley said Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump should use a more civil tone while campaigning, warning that divisive rhetoric could ultimately lead to violence on par with the 2015 Charleston church massacre. I know what that rhetoric can do, the Republican governor told The Associated Press on Thursday. I saw it happen. Haley spoke to the news agency just weeks before the first anniversary of the June 17, 2015 killing spree in which a white man murdered nine black churchgoers, reportedly because he wanted to ignite a race war. In the new interview with AP, Haley...

Nikki Haleys response to Dylann Roof shooting up a church in the state that she governs and killing nine people hasnt always been perfect. In fact, its been cringeworthy at times, but she deserves credit from supporters for eventually removing the Confederate flag from state grounds and denouncing its use altogether. She has a history of coming around on issues and then really hitting them hard. For evidence of that, look no further than her fearless takedown of Donald Trump during her response to President Barack Obamas State of the Union address this year. Now, she is joining Hillary Clinton...

One of the puzzlers of the South Carolina primary is why Marco Rubio lost. He had the two major endorsements: Senator Tim Scott and Governor Nikki Haley. How could he lose? Haley has a 71% approval rate among Republicans. We learned the answer this weekend. Nikki Haley spoke to the Gridiron Club. Yep. She is that establishment. Not only did she deliver the response to the State of the Union speech that blasted the Republican front-runner instead of the Democratic president, but now she is in Washington dancing to the Washington Establishment's tune. During Saturday’s Republican presidential debate in Greenville, South Carolina, when Nikki Haley’s endorsement was still up for grabs, it was clear that at least two candidates wanted it. “Nikki Haley will do a better job curing poverty than Barack Obama,” said Marco Rubio. Later, Jeb Bush took a swipe at rival John Kasich, citing a think tank report that graded governors on spending. Kasich got a bad grade. Haley was among the best. Haley was there, watching in person, but she didn’t speak to reporters. As the six Republican presidential hopefuls stomped and shouted across the state she governs, Haley...

In May, the History Channel will air its remake of Alex Haley's Roots: The Saga of An American Family. Unsurprisingly, the advertising for the broadcast fails to mention that Roots is a fake, and a fake of the first order. First of all, the book upon which the successful mini-series was based was actually authored by Murray Fisher, Alex Haley's editor from Playboy magazine. Secondly, Roots wasn't just ghost-written: it was plagiarized: In 1978, Judge Robert Ward concluded that Haley had stolen the idea for Roots from Harry Courlander, the white man who authored The African. Courlander charged Haley with...

South Carolina has been at the forefront of the battle against President Obama’s refugee resettlement plans for nearly a year, with grassroots activists fighting not only the White House but their own Republican Gov. Nikki Haley. Since that time, it has become apparent to South Carolina conservatives, including many who voted for Haley, that she is a supporter of Obama’s drive to convert millions of recent immigrants into “new Americans” by the time he leaves office, using not only the United Nations refugee pipeline but also a steady influx of illegal immigrants from Central America. CHAPIN, S.C. — Senator Marco Rubio received the endorsement Wednesday of South Carolina’s governor, Nikki R. Haley, a stamp of approval that could prove significant as his campaign tries to break out ahead in the state’s primary on Saturday. Mrs. Haley endorsed Mr. Rubio at an early evening rally in Chapin, S.C., saying, “If we elect Marco Rubio, every day will be a great day in America.” The endorsement puts the backing of one of the Republican Party’s rising stars behind Mr. Rubio, who has cultivated relationships with many of his party’s youngest leaders. In the lone piece of good news from last night, we have endured the last State of the Union speech from our current president. However, when South Carolina governor Nikki Haley delivered the Republican response, she inadvertently demonstrated the fundamental problem with today's Republican party. It is completely out of touch with its own base and the majority of ordinary Americans, and doesn't even realize it. Gov. SOMETHING curious is happening on the right of American politics: immigration is losing its potency as a driver of voter anger. Just ask Chris McDaniel, a Mississippi Republican who represents the Tea Partys last, best hope of toppling an establishment grandee in 2014. Mr McDaniel hopes that grassroots Republicans will ditch Senator Thad Cochran, a four-decade Washington veteran, and instead choose him as the partys Senate candidate for mid-term elections in November. [snip] The elder Barbour offered a parable to explain local views about violators of the border. Imagine cooking burgers in a backyard when an intruder crawled under the...

Thad Cochran is getting his butt kicked in Mississippi by conservative challenger Chris McDaniel. That has sent the NRSC and its friends into a tailspin and they are desperate to tar and feather Chris McDaniel. Some freak in Mississippi has handed them their latest tool. By willfully ignoring the real timeline and facts, the NRSC wishes to drag Chris McDaniel into scandal and, they no doubt hope, down in the polls. It is an open secret in Mississippi that Thad Cochrans wife is in a nursing home. I have known it for some time, which is why RedState has not...

  • Sheldon Adelson: Not Getting His Moneys Worth In South Carolina

Hes the Las Vegas casino magnate pouring money into the coffers of Republican politicians (and the groups supporting their reelection) in an effort to purchase their opposition to online poker. Why does Adelson want to ban online poker? Easy: Its costing him money. Weve got no beef with Adelson, obviously. Hes simply making an investment in the future of his increasingly outdated business model. No, our beef is with the politicians taking his cash politicians like U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham (RINO-S.C.). Last month we wrote about Grahams support for a federal online poker ban which were sure has...

Governor Nikki Haley of South Carolina signed S.308 into law today, February 11th. The reform restores the rights of armed Americans to eat in the same restaurants as the rest of the population. South Carolina is one of the last states to restore this right. Depending on definitions, between one and four states still restrict people who are exercising their second amendment rights from obtaining service in places that serve alcohol. North Dakota law allows legally armed people into portions of establishments that serve alcohol, for example. Louisiana may be the last state to have a complete prohibition....

COLUMBIA, S.C. South Carolina Democratic Chairman Dick Harpootlian, imploring party activists Friday night to defeat this states Indian-American governor, predicted next years Democratic standard-bearer would send Nikki Haley back to wherever the hell she came from. Haley was raised in South Carolina and attended college here, but her parents were Sikh immigrants. Harpootlian, a longtime Democratic figure who has a history of using harsh rhetoric, made the comments at the partys Jefferson-Jackson dinner just moments before Vice-President Joe Biden took the stage. Asked what he meant by comment, Harpootlian wrote in an email: Lexington County. Before being elected governor...

Our founding fathers were very careful to stipulate in our Constitution, and in crystal clear language, that our Constitution, and only those laws which shall be made in pursuance thereof, shall be the supreme law of the land. All those who assert Obamacare is the law of the land, need to explain why the following stated reasons are insufficient to establish that Obamacare has not been made in pursuance of our Constitution. And they need to explain why Obamacare is in harmony with the documented intentions and beliefs under which our Constitution was adopted. Keep in mind our very own...

Outrage After Democrats Insult Nikki Haley's Indian Heritage Saying They'll Send The Republican Gov. 'Back To Wherever The Hell She Came From' 3 May 2013 Conservatives are outraged after a Democrat in South Carolina allegedly insulted Republican Gov. Nikki Haley's Indian heritage at a party gathering in Columbia on Friday. The state's Democratic Party Chairman, Dick Harpootlian, is believed to have said the party will take on the Conservative in the next gubernatorial race and send 'Nikki Haley back to wherever the hell she came from.' Gov. Haley was born in the U.S. but her parents are from India. Read...
