Fox's long-running 'King of the Hill' canceled

LOS ANGELES – "King of the Hill" is over the hill at Fox, which is canceling the long-running animated comedy. Final episodes of the half-hour series, now in its 13th year, likely will air during the 2009-10 season, Fox said Friday. The network recently ordered 13 new episodes, and animated series have a long production schedule. "King of the Hill" chronicles the life of blue-collar family man Hank Hill of Texas and his family and friends. Hank is voiced by series co-creator and executive producer Mike Judge. Others in the cast include Kathy Najimy, Brittany Murphy and Stephen Root.

'King of the Hill' is Dead (So long Hank and Peggy)

The animated mainstay "King of the Hill," the second longest lasting animated prime time cartoon, won't go beyond its 13-episode 14th season next year, Fox said. The creation of Mike Judge and Greg Daniels, which will reach its 250th season this season, "King of the Hill" concerns a Texas family led by Hank Hill and a wife who looks suspiciously like Sarah Palin. Its well observed stories and relatively subtle humor increasingly set it apart from the more blunt and outlandish Sunday night Fox cartoons like "Family Guy," "American Dad" and the impending "Cleveland Show." Cancellation is something that has...

Candidate faces speeding, open container charges [Hank Hill]

CHATTANOOGA- A Hamilton County General Sessions Court judicial candidate has been charged with speeding and having an open beer container in his vehicle, officials say. Attorney Hank Hill was driving 45 mph in a 30 mph zone and had an open 24-ounce, partially empty can of beer in a rented truck he was driving, according to Signal Mountain police. Hill, who is running for the seat occupied by retiring Judge Richard Holcomb, was stopped Wednesday around 7 p.m. after a radar indicated he was speeding, according to a police report. Hill told the officer there was alcohol in the vehicle...

This fall, Turkmenistan is preparing to raise the price of its exported natural gas by one and a half times - to $100 per thousand cubic meters. This was declared on Friday by the president of Turkmenistan, Sapamurat Niyazov, according to a report by Reuters. "Europe has problems now. The prices of the energy sources are rising. We will also gradually raise our prices," said Niyazov during a news program on the government television station. "We have been selling for 44 dollars, now we are selling for 65, but from the ninth or tenth month of this year will we...

'King of the Hill' Democrats?

If you watch a lot of cable news, by now you've probably heard someone refer to a bloc of voters known as '' 'South Park' conservatives.'' The term comes from the title of a new book by Brian C. Anderson, a conservative pundit who adapted it from the writer Andrew Sullivan, and it refers to the notion that Comedy Central's obscene spoof of life in small-town America, with its hilarious skewering of liberal snobbery, is somehow the perfect crucible for understanding a new breed of brash and irreverent Republican voters. In truth, aside from its title, Anderson's book has very...

Numerous Propane Tanks Stolen From Store (Columbus, Ohio)

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Officials are investigating the theft of about 30 propane tanks from a local hardware store, NBC 4's Nancy Burton reported. The propane tanks were stolen at about 10 p.m. Monday from the Sears Hardware store in the Northwest Center at Henderson and Reed roads. The tanks were being stored outside in locked cages, Burton reported. Police said thieves broke the locks on the last two cages and stole about 30 tanks. Burton said a witness called the store as the theft occurred. The manager on duty then called police, but the suspects left the scene before police...
