LOS ANGELES (AFP) – Oscar-winning US director Steven Spielberg has dropped plans to remake the Hollywood classic "Harvey" after failing to find the right star to take on the lead role made famous by James Stewart. Initially, Spielberg had wanted Tom Hanks to take on the role of the gentle, mild-mannered Elwood P. Dowd, who just happens to say his best friend is an invisible giant rabbit. But the industry daily Variety said Friday that Hanks was not that enthusiastic about the prospect of stepping into the legendary Stewart's footsteps.

Steven Spielberg has committed to his next film, and it will be an adaptation of the Mary Chase Pulitzer Prize-winning play “Harvey,” which will be done as a co-production between 20th Century Fox and DreamWorks. It is the story of an amiable eccentric, Elwood P. Dowd, and his friendship with a six and one-half foot tall invisible rabbit, and how it affects every member of his family and community. The play won the Pulitzer Prize in 1944, and was previously turned into the 1950 Universal film that starred Jimmy Stewart and Josephine Hull. While DreamWorks has several pictures that Spielberg...

Kathleen Sebelius to his cabinet as his Health and Human Services secretary. We talk about the end times and honor the passing of radio great Paul Harvey.

EXCERPT: An editorial in Rochester, New York’s largest newspaper started out as a warm tribute to Paul Harvey ended up as a cold attack on Rush Limbaugh. The editorial, headlined “Talk radio needs a little more Harvey,” went down hill quickly and contained these gems: “A lot of word pictures are drawn every day purporting to describe how inflexibly partisan and flat-out angry the world of popular communication has become. But few things tell the tale better than two names.” “In short, Harvey was the velvet glove. And Limbaugh is the iron fist. Take your pick.”

If you live in Illinois, Oklahoma, maybe even the rest of the country flags should be at half staff. September 4th should be considered Paul Harvey Day.

Appraiser claiming fraud says prosecutor's office talked to him after Blago arrest Since arresting Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald has renewed interest in convicted fundraiser Tony Rezko's part in the purchase of Barack Obama's Chicago mansion, according to a former real estate analyst who says he was interviewed by the federal prosecutor in the past 10 days. Kenneth J. Conner told WND he was interviewed by investigators from Fitzgerald's office regarding the purchase of the Obama mansion and the adjacent vacant lot that Rezko's wife, Rita, purchased simultaneously. As WND reported last week, Conner filed a civil...

A New York contractor was committed to a psychiatric ward when he broke through walls to retrieve a lost cat -- an animal doctors thought was a delusion. Chris Muth got out of the hospital after four days, the New York Post reported. The lost cat, Rumi, spent somewhat longer, 15 days, in the bowels of a Brooklyn church being converted into apartments. Muth said he panicked at the thought of losing Rumi when the cat wandered off because he was caring for it for a friend. After going through a hole in a wall, Rumi fell down a shaft....

Bill of the Week- Harvey Milk Day (Leno) Last week Assemblyman Mark Leno and homosexual advocacy group Equality California (the organization that sponsored SB 777) announced that the assemblyman would introduce and carry a new bill that will establish a state holiday honoring Harvey Milk. Most citizens have no idea who Mr. Milk is or why he deserves a special state-recognized holiday. For some, Harvey Milk is considered a "civil rights" leader for his work in advancing homosexual "rights" in California. A resident of the infamous Castro district in San Francisco, Milk was one of the first homosexual elected officials...

Ted Harvey’s scheme that drives traffic to Harvey’s campaign website and then asks for donations by falsely claiming that Harvey is being opposed by a pro-choice millionaire. As I was leaving the House chambers for the weekend our Democrat Speaker of the House announced that the coming Monday would be the final day of this year’s General Assembly. He went on to state that there were still numerous resolutions on the calendar which we would need to be addressed prior to the summer adjournment. Interestingly, he specifically mentioned that one of the resolutions we would be hearing was being carried by the House Majority Leader Alice Madden (D), honoring the 90th anniversary of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains. As a strong pro-life legislator I was disgusted...

We were all sitting around late that night listening to the Pirate game on the radio in Pittsburgh................. as thunder was heard and lightening seen in the sky in the late innings at old County Stadium in Milwaukee. It was the night of (imo) baseball’s greatest pitching performance --- 12 perfect innings of pitching. http://www.baseball-almanac.com/boxscore/05261959.shtml****Thirty-six consecutive batters were retired by Harvey Haddix before the thirteenth inning — when it all ended on an error, an...

Three environmental activists were cooking up plastic explosives and had planned to test a device the day they were arrested, federal prosecutors alleged Wednesday as they indicted them. The three face five to 20 years in federal prison if they are convicted of conspiring to use fire or explosives to damage property. The suspects planned assaults this spring in the name of the Earth Liberation Front, a 'loosey-goosey, sort of mist-of-the-fog kind of an organization' of environmental activists, U.S. Attorney McGregor Scott said. Eric McDavid, 28, Zachary Jensen, 20, and Lauren Weiner, 20, remain in jail. They could enter a...

She is back in Flagstaff, ready to begin taking two classes at Northern Arizona University. WASHINGTON, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- The Army is reorganizing the National Guard but not cutting any troops, the civilian chief of the Army said Wednesday. "There is not going to be any reduction in the National Guard. Overall, the Army (and)... the active Guard and Reserve overall -- the military capability will continue to grow," said Army Secretary Francis Harvey. Media reports in December about plans to cut between 25,000 and 30,000 Guard troops to save money for the Army engendered strong protests from Capitol Hill and state governors. About a quarter of Army troops serving in Iraq are from...

PHOENIX (AP) -- An Arizona bookstore owner charged in the firebombing of a government wildlife lab in Washington committed suicide in his jail cell Thursday, officials said. William C. Rodgers, 40, of Prescott, Ariz., suffocated after placing a plastic bag over his head while in a one-person cell in Flagstaff, the Coconino County medical examiner said. Rodgers was one of six people arrested earlier this month in connection with ecoterror attacks in Oregon and Washington in recent years. He was accused of setting fire to the Agriculture Department's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services facility in Olympia, Wash., in 1998....

I got a chain letter on this, thought I'd share it. It is well written and its right as always. Paul Harvey and Prayer Paul Harvey says: I don't believe in Santa Claus, but I'm not going to sue somebody for singing a Ho-Ho-Ho song in December. I don't agree with Darwin, but I didn't go out and hire a lawyer when my high school teacher taught his theory of evolution. Life, liberty or your pursuit of happiness will not be endangered because someone says a 30-second prayer before a football game. So what's the big deal? It's not like...

MIAMI (AP) - A depression strengthened into Tropical Storm Harvey on Wednesday as it slowly approached Bermuda, forecasters said. Harvey, the eighth named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season, had top sustained wind of about 40 mph, just 1 mph above the minimum for tropical storms. Harvey is the earliest eighth named storm on record for the Atlantic hurricane season, which began June 1. A tropical storm warning was posted for Bermuda, meaning tropical storm conditions were expected within 24 hours. One to 3 inches of rain was possible for the islands that sit about 1,000 northeast of Miami, meteorologists...

while the circulation center is perhaps not real well defined in satellite imagery...the imagery does show a number of small swirls rotating around a common center. This is also not the most tropical of tropical cyclones. However...the center is close enough to the deep convection...within 60 nmi...and the upper low to the southwest is far enough away to consider this system more tropical than subtropical. The depression also lies slightly on the symmetric warm core side of bob hart's FSU cyclone phase space analysis diagrams. The initial intensity is set to 30 kt based on earlier ship reports of 25...

ATLANTA — Judge Paschal English glared at the teenage girl, shackled at the waist, standing before him. He wanted to know what happened before the killings. Holly Harvey said she and her girlfriend, Sandy Ketchum, both 16, found a large knife and repeatedly stabbed a mattress and a picture of puppies on a wall. English grilled Harvey for 35 minutes before sentencing her Thursday to two consecutive life terms. She and Ketchum murdered Harvey's grandparents — Carl Collier, 74, and Sarah Collier, 73 — last August in their Fayette County home.

Anyone else notice the 15 seconds or so of dead air that occured during Paul Harvey's show today? I was listening to it on the way home for lunch. Paul let out a strange sigh right during the middle of a general steel commercial. Then, nothing for about 15 seconds. I stopped the car and my heart raced. I was terrified that he suffered a stroke or something during his broadcast. Then he came back on the air, mentioning something about starting all over again. Then he made a comment about having a story in his hands that he just...

IF I WERE THE DEVILBy Paul Harvey "If I were the Prince of Darkness, I would want to engulf the whole world in darkness. And I would have one-third of the real estate and four-fifths of the population, but I wouldn't be happy until I had the ripest apple on the tree. So, I'd set about, however necessary, to take over the United States of America. I'd subvert the churches first; I'd begin with a campaign of whispers. With the wisdom of a serpent I would whisper to you as I whispered to Eve: "Do What You Please." To the...

'Down and Dirty' sums up life with Miramax chief If you are even a casual reader of glossy magazines or gossip pages, you probably don't need Peter Biskind to tell you that Harvey Weinstein, the co-chairman of Miramax Films, is an outsize character -- a big guy with big appetites and a temper to match. Weinstein But Biskind's absurdly entertaining new book, Down and Dirty Pictures: Miramax, Sundance, and the Rise of Independent Film (Simon & Schuster, $26.95), is here to tell you that you don't know the half of it. Biskind compares Weinstein to Nixon, Mussolini, an undercooked pancake,...

A week after General Electric pulled its lighting advertisements from Paul Harvey's syndicated radio show because of complaints from Muslim listeners, the company has decided to restore its ads to the popular program. GE withdrew its ads after the 84-year-old Harvey described cockfighting in Iraq on Dec. 4, when he made the following on-air comment: "Add to the thirst for blood a religion which encourages killing, and it is entirely understandable if Americans came to this bloody party unprepared." The Council on American-Islamic Relations, a Muslim civil rights group, objected to the comment and complained to advertisers on the show,...

<p>November 7, 2003 -- Five transgender teens who attend Harvey Milk HS posed as female prostitutes, and then robbed their tricks by claiming to be undercover cops willing to let them go free in exchange for cash and credit cards, sources said. New York City has so many things that make it unique; it makes it hard to decide where to start. Then again, the cash strapped city just opened a new high school at a cost of about 3 million dollars which doesn’t allow straight students to attend. However, if you are gay or bisexual or a transgender, welcome home. Seriously. The powers that be in NYC have decided that they have collected enough money from fining smokers in public places, and animal lovers in subways, and can now spend city money to ensure that straight people are no where in...
