The officer was wounded in his arm, according to spokesperson Sean Howard, and was taken to Advocate Christ Hospital. The police officer came across a burglary in progress and exchanged fire with the offender, Howard said. The offender then ran into the home, where he is now holding people hostage. Officials do not know how many hostages are being held.
