Obama promised no middle class tax hike. Yeah right!

Read Obama's Lips; No new taxes on the Middle Class! Yeah right! So how does one defend the indefensible? Obama Press Secretary Robert Gibbs does it by a number of amateurish debating ploys when asked if his boss will break his word and raise taxes on the middle class. He defects, he demeans and he obfuscates. Some say that his antics are down right arrogant. Interestingly enough he has not had to defend his boss against a hostile press like the anti-Bush press. No on the contrary Obama’s press has been an awestruck and worshipping press. But apparently things are...

Sprightly pensioner dies in 'zoo' hospital after 'catalogue of blunders by staff'

An active pensioner admitted to hospital for routine treatment for a stomach bug died six weeks later following a series of 'blunders' by overworked staff. Betty Dunn, 79, was taken to Tameside General Hospital in Ashton-under-Lyme, Greater Manchester, to be rehydrated with saline. But her horrified family watched helplessly as the widow's condition deteriorated over six weeks before she died after contracting the superbug C-diff. At one point her relatives, who battled to communicate with staff who apparently didn't speak English, were so concerned for the former Land Girl's welfare they called in police. Doctors then transferred the great-grandmother to...

The Delays and Denials of Government-Run Health Care - Video 7/5/09

Here is video of Sen. Mitch McConnell laying out the delays and denials that are commonplace in Canada's Government-run Health Care System - a precursor of what Americans can expect if President Obama succeeds in bringing socialized medicine to the United States. Some have argued that socialized medicine would work fine in America, much like Medicare for retired-age people. However, those who suggest it would be like Medicare forget that Medicare has functioned within the framework of a robust private health care system. Once Socialized Medicine becomes law, the private system will ultimately collapse, changing the landscape of medical care...

Health

Without drastic rationing, how can anyone hope to provide health care for everyone at lower cost − and at the same time allow unlimited immigration? This isn’t a logical plan on which to base national policy. This is an irrational fantasy with which to take control of an additional one-sixth of the economy, as well as take control of people’s lives.

Debby Smith, Just Another in a Long List of Democrat Pawns

There she was in front of the camera for all America to see. Stricken with cancer, frightened, helpless, weeping. Then came the hug from the compassionate President Obama. It was one of the most poignant moments of Obama’s health care infomercial broadcast on ABC News. Who would not have voted to pass Obama’s nationalized health care plan right there at that very moment? Which was exactly Obama’s plan. Virtually everyone knows someone suffering with cancer like 53-year-old Debby Smith, and would do almost anything to ease their pain. But Ms. Smith’s unfortunate situation notwithstanding, it was soon found out that...

Wal-Mart Allies With The Left

Behind the bipartisan motives for employer-provided health insurance. On Tuesday the CEO of Wal-Mart, long the bête noire of the American left, issued a joint statement with SEIU head Andy Stern and Center for American Progress President John Podesta, two close allies of Barack Obama, supporting the administration's health reform efforts. The letter called for bipartisan reforms that include an employer mandate to purchase health insurance for their employees. An odd alliance? Maybe. But when two camps eye the same goal for separate reasons, they can become unlikely bedfellows.

The painful side effects of Obama's healthcare reform

Here's a way for America to cut its spiraling healthcare costs: ice floes. This idea isn't mine. It's President Obama's. Or rather, it's where we're likely to end up if the president prevails on Congress to pass the adventurous healthcare reform proposal currently being discussed, which the Congressional Budget Office estimates will cost about $1 trillion over the next 10 years. That's on top of Medicare's annual $327-billion budget, whose massive deficits, if they continue at the same rate, are predicted to bankrupt the Medicare system by the end of the next decade. In looking for a way to fund...

Override to national health care on '10 ballot

Arizonans will get a second chance to decide if they want residents here to be able to opt out of any national health insurance plan approved by Congress. Without debate, the state Senate on Monday voted 18-11 to put a proposal on the 2010 ballot that would constitutionally override any law, rule or regulation that requires individuals or employers to participate in any particular health care system. The House already has approved the measure. HCR2014, if approved by voters next year, also would prohibit any fine or penalty on anyone or any company for deciding to purchase health care directly....

At my local Independence Day Parade the local Bolsheviks (aka DemocRATS) marched in the parade holding signs saying "One Nation, Single-Payer Healthcare". It was the most disgusting display I have ever experienced. I was the instigator of a heckling that shouted No Single Payer Healthcare. The Bolsheviks were stunned that anyone would heckle them in the parade, but I just could not let such a blatant partisan show go unchallenged. Did anyone else experince this in their local parade(s) ?

Cancer patients will be paid to go private in yet another Labour climbdown

Cancer patients who face long waits in the NHS will be given cash to go private, in a radical shift of Government policy. Gordon Brown will unveil a significant expansion of private sector involvement in health provision as part of his much-hyped relaunch next week. For the first time, if a primary care trust (PCT) cannot give cancer patients a specialist appointment within two weeks of referral from a GP, it will have to provide equivalent funding for a private consultation. However, the principle of involving the private sector in acute treatment is regarded as a major change of approach....

Coming Soon: The Nightmare From Up There

In his recent speech to the American Medical Association, President Obama counseled Americans to beware "dire warnings about socialized medicine and government takeovers; long lines, and rationed care; decisions made by bureaucrats and not doctors." Unfortunately for the president, there are a few Cassandras whose warnings are worth heeding. Chief among them are the millions of Canadians who have received substandard care at the hands of a government-run health system. Before America emulates the Canadian model with a new trillion-plus-dollar health plan, it's worth examining whether government-run systems are all they're cracked up to be. As a Canadian by birth,...

America's health care system certainly has its share of problems — of which most emanate from politicians' tinkering, tempting frustrated consumers with promises of better benefits at someone else's expense. So the prospect of President Obama and Congress remaking American health care in their own image should scare the pants off anyone who looks not merely at the existing problems but at government's abysmal record as a problem-solver.
The Government has been accused of fixing the outcome of public consultations on health policy after it emerged that reviews were flooded with block votes from groups funded entirely by the taxpayer. Earlier this month the Health Secretary, Alan Johnson, announced that the display of cigarettes and tobacco in shops would be banned in England and Wales from 2011. He added that people wanting to buy cigarettes from vending machines would in future have to show proof of age to obtain a token to activate the machine, and machines could be banned altogether in the future.
The real issue that brought many of the Revolutionary patriots into the fight was a lack of representation. The government was passing laws while remaining deaf to the protests of its constituencies. Is this 1776 or 2009? Our current Congress and administration are the most elitist, most distant governing bodies our nation has yet known. In the midst of the highest unemployment numbers in 26 years, our president exudes confidence. “I’m absolutely confident that we can, at this period of difficulty, prove, once again, what this nation can achieve when challenged,” Obama told reporters Thursday.
NHS trusts have for the first time barred women from routinely having elective caesareans because they cost too much. The procedure, which costs twice as much as a natural birth, will be rationed in Greater Manchester so that it is only available to women with specific medical conditions. Some top obstetricians condemn the decision, arguing that, while it will curb the fashion for choosing caesareans to reduce the pain of childbirth, it will also penalise those who opt for them on the grounds that they are safer for the mother. The ERI suffered the most cancellations, with hundreds also being postponed at the Sick Kids, the Western General and St John's Hospital in Livingston.
