Key Republican calls for intel hearings

The top Republican on the House Oversight and Government Reform committee called for an investigation into the botched terrorist attack on-board a plane to Detroit, saying that various counter terrorist agencies are “reverting to their pre 9/11 ways.” Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) said that recent events have “exposed a sobering reality that the very failures that made us vulnerable before 9/11 still threaten our homeland security today.” “There was a breakdown in communication that impacts numerous government entities and this committee should investigate and hold hearings immediately,” Issa said in a news release. Issa said he called Chairman Ed Towns...

McChrystal Concludes Hearings on Afghanistan

WASHINGTON, Dec. 10, 2009 – The commander of U.S. and international forces in Afghanistan today wrapped up a round of hearings on Capitol Hill regarding the new U.S. approach to Afghanistan and Pakistan. The themes Army Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal touched on in appearances before members of both chambers of Congress this week were consistent: he embraced the plan that sends 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan and sets a flexible date for beginning a withdrawal, and expressed measured optimism in its potential to reverse insurgents’ momentum. “The president's decision rapidly resources our strategy, recognizing that the next 18 months will...

Lindsey Graham Schools Eric Holder On The Law

Sen. Linsey Graham puts AG Holder's feet to the fire. From Hot Air. It needs no comment from me other than we have an Attorney General being put in a position to spin the case for a trial unnecessary and one that puts this nation in danger. AP at Hot Air writes: " The real worry in a district-court trial isn’t what’ll happen to archterrorists like Osama or KSM, whose perpetual detention is assured; the worry is that those trials will establish precedents that’ll be exploited by lesser jihadis at their own trials later on. KSM won’t be released because...

Holder Defends Sept. 11 Trial Decision on Capitol Hill (Obama declares ksm guilty)

President Obama said in one of a series of TV interviews during his trip to Asia that those offended by the legal privileges given to Mohammed by virtue of getting a civilian trial rather than a military tribunal won't find it "offensive at all when he's convicted and when the death penalty is applied to him." Obama quickly added that he did not mean to suggest he was prejudging the outcome of Mohammed's trial. "I'm not going to be in that courtroom," he said. "That's the job of the prosecutors, the judge and the jury."

AMAZING: LIBERAL DEMOCRAT RUSS FEINGOLD HOLDS HEARINGS ON OBAMA'S CZARS

Senator Russ Feingold, a liberal Democrat from Wisconsin, in a bold and courageous display of bipartisanship, had some harsh words in regards to President Obama's excessive appointment of 'czars'. At a hearing on on "Examining the History and Legality of Executive Branch 'Czars'" scheduled by the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, Subcommittee on the Constitution, Feingold's opening statement sounded like it came from a conservative member of the President's opposition, rather than a fellow liberal from his own party.

Three Questions fior the Wide, er, Wise Latina (Vanity)

Dear Sonia, I've heard a lot from you and about you in the past month--you're all over the news, kind of like Michael Jackson, only not as feminine. Here's 3 questions I want to ask: 1. I looked up where you live-not for stalking purposes, or any nefarious reason-just wanted to see if you walk it like you talk it, as they say. Just what I thought-your pad is in a very nice area of the West Village, only a few blocks away from the late great bar Chumley's. One of the apartments in your building (yours?) is currently on...

Testimony of Linda Chavez Against Confirmation of Sonia Sotomayor

Thank you Mr. Chairman. I testify today not as a wise Latina woman, but as an American who believes that skin color and national origin should not determine who gets a job, promotion, or public contract, or who gets into college or receives a scholarship. My message today is straightforward, Mr. Chairman: Do not vote to confirm this nominee. I say this with some regret, because I believe Judge Sotomayor’s personal story is an inspiring one, which proves that this is truly a land of opportunity where circumstances of birth and class do not determine whether you can succeed. Unfortunately,...

Sotomayor Gets Bounce in the Polls (37% to 44%)

As her week of Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearings draw to an end, Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor has received a bounce in the polls. Rasmussen Reports national telephone polling conducted Wednesday and Thursday night shows that 44% favor Sotomayor's confirmation while 37% are opposed. That’s a big bounce from yesterday when just 37% favored her confirmation. Tracking data has been reported all week on a two-day rolling average basis. Looking back on the individual nights of polling, Monday was a good night for Sotomayor following the opening day of the hearings. Polling on Tuesday was much less favorable for...

You can’t judge a judge by her cover. Despite the best efforts of Republicans to root out any sign that Sonia Sotomayor has emotions that color her views on the law, the Bronx Bomber kept a robotic mask in place. A wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not know that a gaggle of white Republican men afraid of extinction are out to trip her up.
WASHINGTON – Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor declined repeatedly at Senate confirmation hearings Wednesday to disclose her views on abortion rights, and said President Barack Obama never asked her about the issue before he chose her for the bench. "I can't answer ... because I can't look at it in the abstract," she told Sen.
