IRON CO. CIRCUIT COURT -- A former Michigan State Trooper will spend time in prison. Monday, 37-year-old David Morikawa was sentenced to 20 months in prison after being convicted on two felony counts of second degree criminal sexual conduct in July. The convictions stem from a July 2009 incident between Morikawa and a 12-year-old girl. Defense Attorney Grant Carlson asked the judge to go on the lower end of the 12 to 24 month recommendation, sighting Morikawa's lack of a criminal record. "Mr. Morikawa respects the jury system, and he respects the jury’s determination,” said Carlson. “Does he agree with...

WASHINGTON, August 12, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The California legislature is now pushing through a bill to remove parental notification for children as young as 12 to receive the dangerous STD vaccine Gardasil. The American Life League reports that each treatment of the HPV vaccine Gardasil, has an average cost of over $360, a sum that would be footed by taxpayers. Gardasil, the most popular HPV vaccine, has been found to cause dangerous side effects and as many as twelve deaths in the United States alone. The state had attempted but failed in 2007 to mandate HPV vaccinations for all girls...

A Milpitas man who used a computer to paste photos of his 13-year-old daughter's head onto bodies of women in graphic poses shouldn't have been convicted of possessing child pornography because the pictures didn't show minors engaging in sex acts, a state appeals court ruled Wednesday. California's child porn ban, punishable by up to three years in prison, "requires a real child to have actually engaged in or simulated the sexual act depicted," said the Sixth District Court of Appeal in San Jose. The court said the law was intended to prevent exploitation of children. Interpreting it broadly to apply...

A female Florida sheriff's deputy handcuffed naked girls to a desk, spanked them with a leather paddle and sent the seamy homemade videos to a boyfriend she met on a fetish web site, authorities said. Robin Leigh Pagoria, 45, subjected her two victims - described as girls between the ages of 10 and 18 - to multiple torture sessions, authorities said. "There aren't words to describe my anger with her," Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd told the Orlando Sentinel, adding that the arrest "came out of nowhere." Pagoria, a divorced Marine veteran, shackled the girls' wrists and ankles to a...

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (KTLA) -- Tennesee's Senate has passed a bill Friday that would forbid public school teachers from discussing homosexuality in schools. The bill was approved by 5 votes to 4 and would allow for legislators to introduce a ban on letting teachers make homosexuality part of a prepared lesson plan in K-through-8 schools. It must now pass through the state House, which plans on taking it up next year. The bill's longtime sponsor, State Sen. Stacey Campfield told CNN his bill is "neutral" and that discussions on sexuality should decided by families, not school. Passage would make Tennessee the...

April Alexander, 26, was jailed after being accused of having sex with a 16-year old student on more than 25 occasions. The arrest of the two women follows the jailing of mother of three Brittni Colleps, who allegedly staged a sex orgy at her home while her serviceman husband was away on duty. Colleps is accused of inviting the boys to...

The Minnesota Legislature is considering whether to allow Minnesotans to vote on the legal definition of marriage. The proposed constitutional amendment presents voters with the question, "Shall the Minnesota Constitution be amended to provide that only a union of one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized as a marriage in Minnesota?" A "yes" vote for the amendment simply confirms the existing definition of marriage in the state Constitution. Opponents of the proposed amendment charge defenders of the current definition of marriage with bigotry and discrimination. They say we cannot trust Minnesota voters with this important decision. But...

ARLINGTON — A suburban North Texas high school teacher has been accused of having sex with five 18-year-old students at her home and was released on bond Monday. A New Hope math teacher pleaded not guilty to the sexual battery of a 17-year-old student Tuesday after she was indicted by a grand jury. Katherine Robbins, of 4097 New Hope Road in Lowndes County, had been on administrative leave since allegations surfaced in March. Robbins, who is married with two young children, is accused of having a sexual relationship with the male student over an extended period of time, according to sources at the school. According to one of her students, Robbins often flirted with male classmates, even to the point of giving them hugs and inappropriately touching them...

It's outlandish to call same-sex marriage a 'civil right.' [...] The issue before the Minnesota Legislature is not whether same-sex marriage should be allowed in Minnesota. It is whether the people of Minnesota should have the right to vote on the issue, just as voters in 31 other states have already done. The paper is out on a ledge with its "no vote of the people" position. Seventy-four percent of Minnesotans believe voters, not the courts or the Legislature, should decide this issue. Even some homosexual-marriage activists apparently believe that voters should be able to decide, since same-sex marriage groups...

The class of Monte del Sol Charter School students watched and listened intently as senior Emma Campbell, with the help of a visual aid, demonstrated how to use a condom. The 18-year-old is one of 10 teens trained by the local Planned Parenthood to give presentations on sexuality to their peers. "We're trying to normalize sex," said Denise Jennings, Planned Parenthood in Santa Fe health educator, who trains the students and is present when they visit the schools. "We know kids don't always go to adults to discuss sex," she said. "They will go online or to friends who may...

The university said in March that it would investigate the incident; officials said Monday that the review continues.

How much is too much when it comes to sex education on college campuses? A controversial video now has conservative groups taking aim at Texas A&M officials. The extremely graphic video posted online by the group Texas Aggie Conservatives shows a sex therapist using pictures and videos to teach gays and lesbians how to safely engage in certain activities. Student Justin Pulliam says how-to sex lessons for gays have no place on his college campus. "Most people at the university do not agree with having casual sex, or homosexual sex, or having sex outside of marriage," he says. "That the...

The Illinois Senate has rejected legislation that would have given the State Board of Education control over which sex-ed curricula could be taught in public schools. Under the bill, schools would have had to teach “developmentally appropriate” content — which was left undefined. Republican Sen. Kyle McCarter challenged bill sponsor Sen. Heather Steans, a Democrat, on proposed materials that suggested teachers have “races by putting condoms on bananas.” “Who determines what’s age-appropriate? The Legislature?” he asked. “Let (local school districts) decide what’s age-appropriate. Let them decide what’s medically accurate. They don’t need our help.” Chad Hills, CitizenLink’s analyst for sexual...

A former high school band teacher in North Carolina was arrested on sex charges after a young woman wrote in an essay in her college newspaper that he got her pregnant — and took her to get an abortion — when she was his student. The essay, "I had an affair with my high school teacher," used some fake names but identified the Winston-Salem school, and the principal there tipped off authorities. It was originally written for a composition class at North Carolina Central University and appeared in the campus paper this month as part of an annual special section....
