  • Vanity - Weekly Sewing Thread?

I've been dabbling in sewing off and on (mostly off) for a number of years. Mostly what I would call simple things like panel curtains, dog beds, etc. With a 2 year old outgrowing clothes so quickly I thought I might try my hand at making some simple items for him. We have weekly gardening threads and semi-weekly recipe threads. I was wondering if anyone might be interested in a weekly (or semi-weekly) sewing thread?

I'll try to make this as short as possible, because I never know when a page is going to load. As you may recall, I started having connection issues about three and a half months ago. After eliminating every other issue I wound up getting another (rebuilt) computer. Late last month the same issue began showing up so I returned the computer to the repair shop at which I bought it. They hooked it up to their connection and announced that there was nothing wrong with it. As recently as last Sunday this thing was working like a top. Now...

OCALA, Fla. - Marion County deputies are searching for the culprit they say stole 17 pit bull puppies from an Ocala back yard on Monday evening. Seventeen dogs, including two adult female pit bulls and 15 puppies between 3 and 4 weeks old, were stolen from locked cages in the backyard. The owner said she saw a burgundy car outside of the house before she left for dinner, but didn't think...

This is no cheap surplus pistol. The Zastava M70A is a new production handgun of a very proven design. It is produced on modern CNC machinery in Serbia by skilled craftsman. What results is an amazingly high value gun that shoots better than some guns five times it's price. Cranking off many rounds through 'The Nutnfancy Project purchased M70A proved the pistol to be worthy of its acclaim, much of which was garnered through war time use. Advancing the Tokarev TT 33 design, this iteration incorporates a manual safety, better slide milling, better sights, firing pin safety, and one more...

There will be a lot of people on Saturday at Belmont Park rooting for California Chrome to become the 12th winner of the Triple Crown, and a lot of people who think he has a shot to do it. But there will also be people trying to beat him: his morning line odds of 3/5 aren’t going to offer much in the way of an ROI, and 21 horses have entered the starting gate of the Belmont Stakes with Derby/Preakness wins in hand, only to fall short. A field of 11 will try the test of the champion on Saturday...
  • Terrafugia, seeking $30M in funding, plans to have first flying cars ready in two years

The idea of a flying car might seem like something out of a science fiction novel, but it may soon become a reality. All it'll take is about $30 million in funding and some patience. Terrafugia, a Woburn manufacturer of flying cars has been working on its vehicles for almost eight years. The MIT-born company has been working on two kinds of cars: the Transition, which is scheduled to be released in mid-2016 and can fly at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour at up to 10,000 feet in the air; and the TF-X, a semi-autonomous plug-in hybrid...

Civilized? Yes. Tamed? Never. Lambo's V12 beast is as unapologetic as they comeI have an old boxing buddy made good. Just a passable boxer, but, as it turns out, a phenomenal businessman. Something about online poker, offshore Internet servers and the foresight to predict that most everyone would eventually want to get their thrills digitally. So, while I can take some small solace that I could pepper his noggin with more jabs than he could throw back, he can actually afford to buy the cars that I merely test. In the years I have known him, heÂ’s had everything from...

California is hardly known as an epicenter of thoroughbred breeding. But on Saturday, the Belmont Stakes will include the first California-bred Triple Crown contender, leaving the actual industry leader, Kentucky, to pour another bourbon and dream of next year. Kentucky produces about one-third of all the registered thoroughbred foals in the U.S. according to the Jockey Club, the breed's registry. California accounts for about 8% of the foal crop and has struggled to stabilize its breeding industry since the 2008 recession. It makes California Chrome truly an odds-beater. "The story behind this horse is great for racing," said Clifford Barry,...

Men and women chatting through social network commit a sin because it could lead to a relationship that is prohibited in Islam, a senior Saudi scholar has said. Sheikh Abdullah Al Mutlaq, a member of the Gulf Kingdom’s seven-man Supreme Scholars Committee, urged men and women to avoid such conversations even if they include medical or religious advice by male or female experts. “These conversations amount to illegitimate male-female meetings and are an act of the Devil,” he said, quoted by Arar newspaper. “Most of these conversations are personal and only God knows what they include…but the Devil is there...
