Police have enlisted the help of a trapper to round up a group of feral hogsscaring residents of a subdivision in suburban Atlanta. Some parents fear sending their children to a school bus stop in the Lithonia area, where up to four of the hogs are roaming the streets and eating trash in front yards. Authorities hope the hogs can be trapped in cages by Wednesday morning, DeKalb County police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said. "They're causing quite a stir to say the least," Parish said shortly before noon Tuesday, as she headed out to the neighborhood, about 17 miles east...

Oregon authorities are investigating how a farmer was eaten by his hogs. Terry Vance Garner, 69, never returned after he set out to feed his animals last Wednesday on his farm near the Oregon coast, the Coos County district attorney said Monday. A family member found Garner's dentures and pieces of his body in the hog enclosure several hours later, but most of his remains had been consumed, District Attorney Paul Frasier said. Several of the hogs weighed 700 pounds or more.

According to this news source, Michigan Department of Natural Resources agents are forcing farmers to shoot their piglets due to a new ruling labeling the pigs an invasive species. Found it on Drudge, but I can't vouch for NaturalNews. Never heard of them. Of course, I'd never heard of Barack Obama until 2007, either. Farmer forced to shoot his own baby piglets in cold blood, screams the headline, in Hearstian manner. If true, this reminds me of FDR's Hog Reduction Program of 1933, one of his first "accomplishments." Two billion pounds of pork, mostly piglets and sows, were slaughtered to...

The ISO to be imposed on April 1 considers all but eight breeds of hogs to be feral. Those eight breeds are used in confinement buildings. That means the DNR can drive onto farms and homesteads that raise other breeds of swine and kill them on the spot.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Wild boar are invading the farms of central New York state, attacking livestock, killing family pets, chasing people and posing "devastating consequences" for the area, federal officials warn. The feral swine are a non-native species suspected of escaping from game farms, and as many as a couple of hundred are roaming the state, said Paul Curtis, a natural resources professor at Cornell University. While an exact picture of the wild boar population in New York State is unclear, a report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture said the swine were successfully breeding in the three counties...

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Who invited the hogs? That's the question being asked by residents of Timber Ridge community in southwest Vero Beach whose yards have been destroyed by a gang of wild hogs. "I saw about five of them a few nights ago," said Timber Ridge resident Brenda Tucker. "They have torn up the yards of about eight houses. They come looking for food, but destroy everything around them. They are big boars that could hurt pets and little children." ... Ogilvie said Animal Control does not pick up wild animals and they often refer residents to the Florida...

Damndest hunting vid I've ever seen on YouTube so far. These guys are using military style night optics and 308 caliber semiauto rifles and shotgun shooting techniques. Unlike most hunters, they're taking enough hogs to actually make dents in populations and aid farmers.

RATCLIFF, TX (KTRE) - Five minutes before one of five check stations was scheduled to shut down for the first day of the Lone Star Wild Hog Tournament two pickup trucks pulled up. Wild hogs was the cargo. "Do ya'll weigh many of 'em?," said a hunter as he pulled out an extremely large boar hog. Weight in this hog tournament, only matters to the, "side bets going," laughed the hunter. The guesses began. "I said 175 while ago," said a bystander. "I say 160," said a hunter. The boar was lifted on a weight held by a tractor. Everybody...

Population control efforts are falling short; officials mull using helicopters. Hoping to combat the destructive impact of feral hogs on the Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge northwest of Austin, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is considering culling the hogs by shooting them from a helicopter. For years the refuge staff has tried to keep hog populations down by trapping them or killing them in one of several late autumn hunts — but to little avail. Rooting aggressively for food and willing to wallow in anything that looks like a comforting depression of mud, the hogs have caused widespread damage...

October is not be the best month to be a feral hog in the Texas. The state’s Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples has declared October “Hog Out Month - Get the Hog Outta Texas!” as part of a campaign to eradicate the pests. The campaign aims to get Texans to lock and load and hunt down the animals, which cause widespread damage to farmers and other landowners. “Not only are feral hogs a costly nuisance to agricultural operations and wildlife habitats, but they are increasingly finding their way into urban areas and destroying residents’ yards, public parks and golf courses,” Staples...
