  • How does John Bolton stack up against other SecState contenders?

...... let us see how four candidates fare: Governor Mitt Romney, General David Petraeus, New York mayor Rudy Giuliani, and Ambassador John Bolton. Romney, Petraeus, and Giuliani would not hit the ground running day one. By the time they are up to speed, more than likely several months later, State's career diplomats will have figured out how to maneuver around whatever changes might come their way. This would happen because the local team inherently has a field advantage over the visitors. As former U.N. ambassador, Bolton knows State as well as Mattis knows the Pentagon.

Hillary Clinton is maintaining a sizable lead over Donald Trump, even though most Democrats don't see her as a trustworthy candidate. According to a new NBC News|SurveyMonkey Weekly Election Tracking poll, the Democratic presidential nominee leads Trump 50-41 50 among registered voters. That's virtually changed from last week when she had a 10-point lead. But a majority of voters still have negative feelings about Clinton - 59 percent of voters view her negatively, compared to 64 percent who view the GOP nominee in a bad light. When broken down by party, just 12 percent of Democrats say Clinton is honest...
  • Who are the ten most honest and lying American politicians?

American News X ^ | July 24, 2016 | Charlie Barrel has been rating the truth of political statements since 2007. We grabbed the 2000 or so pages of people who had listed affiliations of Democrat, Independent, or Republican, kept only those who had at least 20 statements rated, ran a few python scripts, and produced this list of the ten most honest and most lying politicians. The “Honesty Index” is our invention (it’s the weighted average of how many truths and lies each person told) where 1.0 means they always told the total truth, and 0.0 means they only told pants-on-fire lies. “Percent Lies” is just that: what percentage...

I've become accustomed to politicians who keep their heads down and rarely say anything interesting because they're afraid of drawing fire. Rare are those who speak their minds, defend their principles and worry more about doing their job than keeping it. That's how Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas has been conducting himself in his first two months in office, and the Washington establishment is aghast. Cruz has been my friend for 10 years, and I can't say I'm surprised. - snip - When someone is nominated to the Cabinet, the Constitution dictates that senators must give their "advice and...

DES MOINES — Appearing at his first rally of the campaign on behalf of his wife, Bill Clinton exhorted the crowd to rise above the deeply partisan tone of this election cycle and said that Hillary Rodham Clinton had shown voters her truest self in recent weeks. “She’s still got the best friends that she had in grade school,” said Mr. Clinton, whose wife has seen a decrease in the number of voters who view her as “honest and trustworthy” in polls after a summer spent fending off questions about her use of a private email server while she was...

If you wanted to clear a room full of nervous mothers of small children you could to it by yelling one word: “Chemicals!” Jessica Alba — famous for her roles in “Fantastic Four” and “Little Fockers” — knows this, and has built a booming business around modern, hand-wringing parents who worry about the prevalence of chemicals in everything, from toys to food. The company she co-founded, called The Honest Co., launched in 2012 selling personal care and home products for little ones like diapers, bath products, laundry detergent and more — all made with nontoxic ingredients. The company now touts...

Newt Gingrich has ramped up his attacks on Mitt Romney as a heartless leveraged buyout executive for his years at Bain Capital, asking reporters in Manchester on Monday, “Is capitalism really about the ability of a handful of rich people to manipulate the lives of thousands of other people and walk off with the money? Or is that, somehow, a little bit of a flawed system?” But Mr. Gingrich was himself on an advisory board for a major investment firm that had a similar business model, Forstmann Little, a pioneering private equity firm co-founded in 1978 by Theodore J. Forstmann...

Texas Gov. Rick Perry, whom some pundits had written off as the GOP's nominee, may find a second coming in Iowa, if new poll data holds up. As Mitt Romney's campaign has suffered a startling decline in recent weeks, only to see Newt Gingrich eclipse the former Massachusetts governor's front-runner status, the battle for the Iowa caucuses set for Jan. 3 has become a wide-open race. New survey data prepared for the Perry campaign and shared by a source close within the campaign shows that the Texas governor may be poised to do much better in next month’s Iowa caucuses...

Anita Perry, the 59-year-old wife of Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry, has been very actively campaigning for him on her own all fall. Now, she's taken on a new assignment. Mrs. Perry has launched an online drive to recruit hundreds of volunteers for what she calls the Perry Strike Force. This would consist of Perry fans who would travel to Iowa and work across the state Jan. 2-4, getting out Perry caucus-goers to the hundreds of meeting sites on the evening of Jan. 3. (Don't worry, the BCS Championship Game is not until Jan. 9 this time.) "With over 1,700...

Herman Cain acted swiftly to put an end to speculation over the story about sexual-harassment claims during his tenure at the National Restaurant Association. After a few hours of confused response, Cain admitted that he had been accused, but falsely, of inappropriate conduct. He claimed that an investigation of those accusations showed at the time that they were “baseless,” and he seemed surprised by the news that the trade group settled the claims. “I hope it wasn’t for much,” Cain told Fox News, “because nothing happened”: “I have never sexually harassed anyone, but yes, I was falsely accused while I...

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich.—Mark McKee is lucky a Michigan library isn't charging him a late fee for returning a book 76 years late. .In 1934, the 13-year-old McKee checked out "A Dog of Flanders" by English author Marie Louise de la Ramee from the Mount Clemens Public Library. Recently, McKee, now 89, said he discovered the book and mailed it to the library. "I was entranced by the book and kept it with my prized possessions, intending to return it forthwith," McKee wrote in an accompanying letter. DES MOINES, Iowa – Arguing doggedly against returning Republicans to power, President Barack Obama told Iowa voters Wednesday that the GOP has been dishonest about what needs to be done to revive the economy and restore middle-class dreams. "We can't pretend that there are shortcuts," the president said, addressing about 70 voters in a grassy backyard. "When you look at the choice we face in this election coming up," Obama said, "the other side, what it's really offering is the same policies that from 2001 to 2009 put off hard problems and didn't really speak honestly to the American people...

SAN FRANCISCO -- Democrat Jerry Brown - acknowledging he's more pragmatic and centrist than when he was California governor three decades ago - said Wednesday that if elected again he will bring Republicans and Democrats together with "business people, union people and tea party people" to produce an "honest" state budget. "It's not going to have anything in it that I'm not sure we can accommodate," he said, adding that to solve California's $20 billion budget deficit, "it's going to take certainly two years - maybe longer," he said. "But I will be patient as needed and I will tell...

As the federal budget season heats up, some Placer County officials are grumbling that Republican Rep. Tom McClintock's ideological opposition to congressional earmarks puts their constituents at a disadvantage. "It's already hurt us," Supervisor F.C. "Rocky" Rockholm said in a recent interview. McClintock said he will not seek congressional earmarks – budget requests made outside of the budget process. "I've made it very clear that I will fight for our district through the normal appropriations process," he said.

An interview of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio conducted by reporters from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University in Phoenix Monday night ended prematurely due to disruptive protests. Arpaio, has faced criticism among the media and charges of racial profiling during his illegal immigration sweeps. Arpaio was chosen by ASU because he is “powerful, popular and controversial” said Cronkite dean Christopher Callahan, who pointed out that interrupting the protests eliminated the effectiveness of the three journalists’ questions. “The scenario is you don’t want public scrutiny of this man,” Callahan told the protestors. “You don’t want reporters...
