The vindication of Mike Huckabee

During the primaries, National Review Magazine led the charge against Mike Huckabee. In fact, they were so scared of Huckabee that they wrote a cover story putting him as an unacceptable VP due to his being an economic liberal. In the recent bailout debate, Huckabee and the majority of National Review's posters on the Corner blog once again were on opposite sides. One defended the fundamental basis of our market economy and insisted that we couldn't insist that if we lose, we needed to call in government to "take away the pain." While the other prattled on about the need...

‘Huckabee’ Outpaces Other Cable Shows

Mike Huckabee’s debut as a television talk show host last weekend drew more viewers than three other cable news networks combined. The series premiere of “Huckabee” on the Fox News Channel brought in about 2.01 million viewers, according to Nielsen Co. ratings. That’s more than the viewership of CNN, CNBC and MSNBC put together for the 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday time slot. According to Nielsen, Huckabee beat out Roland Martin on CNN, a showing of “Apprentice UK” on CNBC and an MSNBC special.

McCain made 'huge mistake,' Huckabee says

(CNN) – Former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee said Friday the John McCain made a "huge mistake" by even floating the possibility he would not appear at the first presidential debate as planned. “You can’t just say, ‘World stop for a moment. I’m going to cancel everything,” Huckabee told the Associated Press Thursday. Huckabee, who vied with McCain for the GOP presidential nomination long after it appeared McCain was the party's presumptive nominee, has been an on-and-off critic of the Arizona senator. Earlier this summer he took part in a Washington, DC rally calling on McCain and Obama to highlight...

Former Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee announced on his Web site that he has a new show debuting 8 p.m. EDT Saturday and Sunday on the Fox News Channel. The show is simply titled "Huckabee" he said. "I'm sure the name will make it easy for all of you to find it," Huckabee wrote on his political action committee's blog. Fox News Channel spokesman Richard White said that Huckabee's new show would air on the channel but referred all questions about the show to Huckabee's agent.
Frankly, I’m disappointed and disgusted with my own Republican party as I watch them attempt to strong-arm a bailout of some of America’s biggest corporations by asking the taxpayers to suck up the staggering results of the hubris, greed, and arrogance of those who sought to make a quick buck by throwing the dice. They lost, but want the rest of us to cover their bets so they won’t be effected in their lavish lifestyles as they figure out how to spend their tens of millions and in some cases, hundreds of millions in bonuses and compensation which was their...

Team of Rivals (Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney make their pitch for former competitor)

Less than a year ago, Rudy Giuliani was leading in national polls for the Republican presidential nomination, but last night, he was making the case for the man who was in a distant third place at the time -- John McCain. When we last saw Giuliani on the national scene, his supposed "firewall" in Florida had collapsed, forcing him to abandon his once promising run for the White House. But tonight, he brought the house down with a prosecutorial dissection of Barack Obama's unreadiness to be president by contrasting his lack of record with the experience of McCain. Liberated from...

Onetime White House aspirant Mike Huckabee strapped on an electric guitar Tuesday night and rocked a Minneapolis nightclub, and a national gossip website offers a harsh review along with the video evidence. TMZ.com's report shows Huckabee and his band, Capitol Offense, playing "Born to be Wild" at the unnamed club.
ABC News' Ursula Fahy reports: At breakfast with Texas delegation at the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul, at least one Republican took off his 'America' hat and struck a partisan tone. Former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, a former Arkansas governor, spent a couple of minutes Tuesday defending John McCain's vice presidential pick Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, chastising the media for focusing on her Monday statement about her pregnant 17 year old daughter, and taking a shot at Democratic vice presidential candidate Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del.

Mike Huckabee: Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin is a pleasant surprise for those of us who had hoped that Senator McCain would pick a principled and authentic conservative pro-life leader. Sarah Palin is both principled and authentic. As a Governor, she also brings an important balance of understanding of the critical domestic issues that is needed and that the Democrats have ignored with their ticket. Governor Palin is smart, authentic, tough, and a dynamic choice that will remind women that they are not welcome on the Democrat’s ticket, they have a place with Republicans.

McCain's Vice President: Tim Pawlenty (redstate calling it for Pawlenty)

I'm confident enough to put this up now, but willing to be wrong. Right now though, every sign, signal, and background chatter indicates John McCain will pick Tim Pawlenty, Minnesota's governor, as his running mate. UPDATE: A source close to the campaign now confirms for me that it "more likely than not" is Pawlenty. He does, however, caution me that the campaign does not actually want to leak tonight lest the Obama camp get too much of a chance to play the victim card with a sympathetic media. Below the fold, I've compiled data on Pawlenty that you might find...

Being on John McCain's short list for vice president makes Tim Pawlenty a busy guy. One day last week began with a meeting on security for the upcoming Republican convention in St. Paul, Minn., where Gov. Pawlenty will play host. Then it was off to Farmfest, the state's biggest agricultural fair. Following that, a side trip to Iowa where, as national co-chair for Sen. McCain's presidential campaign, he passed out tire gauges as a way of poking fun at Barack Obama's suggestion the energy crisis be addressed by having Americans better inflate their cars. The next day it was off...

ABC News' Teddy Davis Reports: The Obama campaign signaled a willingness on Thursday to go after Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, R-Minn., for the 2007 Minneapolis bridge collapse while saying that the populist argument it is building against John McCain will continue even if the presumptive Republican nominee taps the son of a truck driver as his running mate. "I don't think it's particularly relevant who the running mate is if the running mate is willing to embrace in total the Bush-McCain economic doctrine," Obama strategist David Axelrod told ABC News. "Everyday Americans understand that those policies aren't working for them,"...

DENVER — For one last time this morning, Tim Pawlenty went about the business of not answering questions about his immediate political future. That's the question about 100 reporters from around the country wanted to ask the Minnesota governor at a Republican Party-sponsored news event. That's the only question Pawlenty didn't want to answer at the session in a light-industrial building on the outskirts of Denver.
