In 2014 China made a round trip to the moon with robotic explorers. The Chinese intend to launch a mission to the moon that will return samples back to Earth. They have outlined their ambitious plans for outer space here. IEEE/Spectrum calls China the "Next Space Superpower."“The Chinese have said repeatedly that they are not going to go into space, land on the moon, look around, say, Been there, done that,’ and consider themselves done,” says Johnson-Freese. “They’re going to do stepping-stone infrastructure, and in those terms their space station makes sense.” Where else might Chinese astronauts go? The New Republic has quietly dropped at least five prominent Jewish writers from its masthead in a move that may signal the publication’s continued drift away from a staunchly pro-Israel standpoint. The magazine has launched an aggressive new editorial direction under the ownership of wealthy socialite Chris Hughes, who is best known for sharing a room with Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg at Harvard University. The names of several prominent Jewish writers from both the left and right of the political spectrum were dropped from TNR’s masthead in the latest issue. They include: Daily Beast reporter Eli Lake, longtime TNR columnist...

Black radical WEB DuBois, who later joined the Communist Party, was the organization's first director of publicity and research, as well as editor of the group's monthly publication The Osiris. This publication gave DuBois an excellent outlet from which to pour forth all manner of racial invective against whites, supposedly in the name of "promoting equality." .... DuBois was known to have "hailed the Russian Revolution of 1917" and he travelled to the Soviet Union in 1926 and 1936. He especially liked 'the racial attitudes of the Communists'." Michigan --( A rare German Luger pistol once owned by aviation pioneer Howard Hughes could reach new heights when it goes up for auction in Solana Beach, Calif. on September 1, 2011 from Craig Gottlieb Militaria Auctions. The iconic handgun was used in the 1930 epic World War I film Hell’s Angels, which Hughes directed. The gun was used in the final scene of the Hollywood blockbuster that introduced actress Jean Harlow to the silver screen. It was one of the most expensive “talkies” ever produced. It was also notable for introducing the phrase “excuse me while I put on...

Background: In 1986 an amendment called "The Hughes Amendment" was allegedly attached to wider firearms legislation in The House and passed. This amendment made unlawful the private ownership of machine guns manufactured after 1986. Today, you can own a machine gun, but the Hughes Amendment, H.A.#777, effectively created a "sinking stock" of such weapons that will eventually dwindle to zero as they wear out. Hundreds of people have been convicted of violating this law since, some when their weapons have malfunctioned rather than being intentionally modified. There's a problem with this law, however. It appears that the amendment was never...

Rep. William J. I think one of the most striking things about last night's Illinois primary results for Senate is how poorly both Alexi Giannoulias and Mark Kirk closed. In the December Chicago Tribune poll Giannoulias was at 31%, followed by Cheryle Jackson at 17%, and David Hoffman with 9%. There were 35% undecided. Giannoulias ended up with 39% to 34% for Hoffman and 20% for Jackson. That suggests that over the final seven weeks of the campaign Hoffman picked up more than 70% of those who had been undecided to 23% for Giannoulias and less than 10% for Jackson. Not too impressive...

CHICAGO (CBS) ―Election officials say the crowds of voters just before 9 a.m. could be used as an indicator to determine voter turnout for the rest of the day. Going by that barometer Tuesday morning, turnout will be very light this primary. As CBS 2's Susan Carlson reports, there have been no lines to vote at Old St. Mary's Catholic Church, at 1500 S. Patrick Hughes is the right choice for U.S. Senate. Hughes is a true conservative outsider who opposes cap-and-trade, bank bailouts, wasteful spending and earmarks. These positions have gained him the support of many Tea Party groups and 9/12 organizations throughout Illinois and the nation and the endorsements of conservative leaders like national radio hosts Mark Levin and Laura Ingraham. Pat Brady, the Chairman of the Illinois Republican Party, says the anti-Mark Kirk element within the GOP is ‘fringe.’ That’s actually not quite true and is precisely why so many conservatives in Illinois don’t like Brady or Kirk — they feel repeated disrespected and treated as fringe. A longtime adviser and close confidant of President Bush funneled millions of dollars in U.S. government grants to radical Islamist organizations, many of whose leaders have been convicted or indicted in terrorism cases in the United States, respected terrorism expert Steven Emerson told Congress last week. “When Ms. [Karen] Hughes was appointed as undersecretary of state for public diplomacy and public affairs, she set the tone to continue a disastrous policy of outreach with Islamist partners,” Emerson told the House International Relations Committee. Among the recipients of the State Department grants actively championed by Hughes was Ahmed Younes, formerly an...

I just finished watching The Hoax the story of Clifford Irving's autobiography of Howard Hughes. As I understand the movie, Clifford Irving alledged that he was authorized by Hughes to write his autobiography, but this was all a scam. My questions is this: Can someone provide a fair analysis of the Hughes, Iriving, Nixon, TWA relationship? Especially with regards to contracts that were ultimately provided to Hughes and the subsequent watergate breakin. Is it likely that Hughes contracted Iriving to write the book in an attempt to pressure Nixon?

President Bush intends to name a well-known conservative commentator and journalist to lead the State Department's struggling efforts to improve the U.S.'s image abroad, replacing long-time confidante Karen Hughes, who is leaving government by the end of the year, The Associated Press has learned. Bush plans to tap James K. Glassman, now chairman of the Broadcasting Board of Governors, which oversees the Voice of America, to be the new undersecretary of state for public diplomacy and public affairs, administration officials said. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the announcement has not yet been made. The officials said the...

Today, CNN's Jack Cafferty at the Situation room, attempted to connect K. Hughes' resignation with the immunity for those connected in the 'Blackwater' case. to: So today it's "Blackwater" gate? What's that? another excuse why the Islamic world doesn't like us? Let me give you an inside secret, the agitators are by 2 forces:one is the Arab media [that has a "thing" about the west no matter what we do], the other one is blind hateful Islamic Imams [that could care less about a 'Blackwater' or any other 'waters', and more about a global Islamic Caliphate Emopure]. Did you...

When Ken Tomlinson calls for an investigation into the “cover-up” of U.S. Arabic broadcasting outrages, it is clear he understands where that probe would lead: to Karen Hughes, under secretary of State for public diplomacy and a long-time member of President George W. Bush’s inner circle...

A fellow UFC fan emailed me about the greatest Closed Captioned faux pas ever in the history of UFC captioning, or so I believe. I honestly somehow believe that this "faux pas" closed captioning was done on purpose with malice when Matt Hughes was introduced to the crowd as "Saddam Hussein." The email sender, Dave, sent me a few pictures of the Tivo'ed shots of the CC faux pas.

At approximately 4:05 pm EST today, Sean Hannity's screener allowed me to be the second caller to pose a question to Sean Hannity on air. When I heard my name and city announced and Sean said hello, I said good afternoon and stated "Sean, this will be the toughest question you've ever had to answer" and Sean said "have at it." [my question follows] "Sean, over the past many years, I've not heard you once, not one time - direct your listeners to go to our U. S. Congressional Record for the date of June 23, 1999. This date is...

By Sibel Utku Bila - Agence France-Presse ANKARA - Turkey hinted yesterday that it may shun the start of EU membership talks next week as political tensions rose over the country's place in Europe, leading Britain to warn of a «huge betrayal» if the door was slammed shut on Ankara. Raising the risk of a political showdown, the European Parliament issued a stern warning to Ankara to recognize Cyprus and acknowledge that the Ottomans committed «genocide» against Armenians during World War I, two highly sensitive issues that have already strained ties. The Parliament did, however, endorse the start of talks...
