Six Missing Israeli Soldiers By Norma Zager and Ari Bussel “The hardest thing to explain is the glaringly evident which everybody had decided not to see…” Ayn Rand Three years ago a Jewish son was taken from his parents. Hamas terror organization kidnapped Israeli soldier Gilad during an incursion from Gaza into Israel. His captors have denied access to him by Red Cross workers in violation of the Geneva Convention. For three years his parents have suffered with worry for their son. For three years a merciless enemy has held captive a young man, a soldier. While Gilad Shalit became...

A United Airlines flight from Munich to Washington has been diverted to Boston's Logan International Airport because a female passenger complained of flu symptoms, an airport official said. Flight 903, a 737 containing 245 passengers and 16 crew, has been isolated in the north cargo area of the airport, said airport spokesman Phil Orlandella. One patient was removed from the plane and was being taken to Masachusetts General Hospital, said Jennifer Mehigan, a spokeswoman for Boston Emergency Medical Services. The other passengers are expected to stay on board and continue to Washington after refueling, airport officials said. A United Airlines...

A member of the U.S. delegation that traveled to Mexico City as part of the advance security team for Energy Secretary Steven Chu exhibited swine flu-like symptoms upon his return, and three members of his family have tested positive for the A H1N1 virus, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs announced on Thursday. The unnamed staffer tested negative himself, but Gibbs attributed that to the amount of time that had elapsed since the onset of his own symptoms. The staffer felt ill three days after his arrival in Mexico City, which was April 13th. On the following day (April 17th),...

Louisiana Sen David Vitter missed his plane and Dulles Airport last Wednesday, and he was not amused. Vitter, who recently gained infamy after being identified on the D.C. Madam's Phone List, found his gate closed, so he went through an armed security door. Why not? He's got that Senator's pin, after all, right? That gives you access to all areas of the airport ... right? As you might expect, an alarm went off as he then tried to verbally rip an unsuspecting United Airlines gate attendant a new one. Apparently, he even tried to pull rank. Come on. Would that...

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested the illegal aliens Wednesday morning on airport grounds at a checkpoint established to verify the identity and immigration status of workers entering a service gate. Most of the men were working construction projects at the airport. In a letter to Kaine and in a 10 a.m. conference call with the governor and Virginia congressional leaders, U.S. Transportation Secretary Mary Peters said the $5 billion project had finally met the Federal Transit Administration's standards for cost efficiency, construction and expected ridership. The project will now move into the final design phase, a major step toward receiving $900...

RICHMOND — The same court that two months ago struck down Virginia's regional transportation-financing plans is now considering a similar case challenging the state's planned transfer of the Dulles Toll Road to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. The Virginia Supreme Court heard oral arguments yesterday in a lawsuit filed by two Northern Virginia residents against state transportation officials and agencies. The lawsuit says the transfer would violate the state constitution because it wasn't approved by the General Assembly. Richmond Circuit Judge Margaret P. Spencer dismissed the lawsuit in March 2007, ruling that the state has sovereign immunity against such claims....

Airports are gateways to countries, especially those serving capital cities. They can, do or should reflect at least some of the values and standards that a country likes to think is its public face to the rest of the world. London's Heathrow, for example, is messy but it works, a reflection of the great British virtue of muddling through against all odds. Charles de Gaulle in Paris is quintessentially French: lots of style but infuriatingly difficult to negotiate. Moscow's Sheremetyevo had all the charms of Soviet bureaucracy, offset by vodka and Cuban cigars. Which brings us to the strange and...

WASHINGTON U-S Customs officials have detained two passengers from an Air France flight bound for Dulles International Airport near Washington. Transportation Security Administration officials say the plane was diverted to Bangor, Maine because they discovered that one of the passengers is on the U-S no-fly list. The plane eventually flew on to Dulles - arriving more than two hours late. T-S-A spokeswoman Yolanda Clark says the other person detained was traveling with the banned passenger. Both are in the custody of local law enforcement in Bangor. She says T-S-A is investigating why the passenger was allowed to board the plane...

(AFPN) -- Like most passengers on a commercial airlines flight, Lt. Col. Scott Neumann probably expected a long, uneventful flight from Dulles International Airport in Washington to Los Angeles. Boy, was he wrong. The deputy commander for the 412th Operations Group at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif., had just wrapped up a semiannual National Aeronautic Association meeting and was settled into his seat in coach class for his coast-to-coast trip Nov. 9. During the flight, he had struck up a conversation with one of the flight attendants. He shared that he had been a test pilot for the B-2 Spirit...

Watch List Passenger ID'd as Cat Stevens Tuesday, September 21, 2004 BANGOR, Maine — A passenger who was matched to a federal watch list, forcing a jetliner to be diverted, has been identified as singer-cum-Muslim convert Cat Stevens (search), according to federal officials. The plane bound for Washington, D.C., from London landed in Bangor Tuesday, authorities said. United Airlines (search) flight 919 had already taken off from London en route to Dulles International Airport when the match was made, according to Nico Melendez, a spokesman for the Transportation Security Administration.

The WOT strikes home. My daughter just returned to DC from here in Atlanta on Airtran Flight 62. The departure was delayed two hours. When she arrived at Dulles around 10, two air marshalls jumped up, told everyone to remain in their seats and hustled off an Indian or Pakistanin looking male who had been sitting in the rear of the plane. They also retrieved a notebook from his seat. Daughter said he was last seen surrounded by the marshalls and some "big" DC cops. Sorry I don't have anything more at this time.

Read this CAREFULLY. MOYERS: Let's take a specific that is in the report and sees what it says about accountability. Look at the video of those hijackers going through the security at Dulles Airport. The commission is very specific about this. Now, the report says that screener, who's not identified by name, should have reconciled or resolved why the detector went off. But the screener never did. It names no name. Surely, though, above the screener was a supervisor. Above the supervisor was a manager. Above the manager was a CEO. Above the CEO was, you know? You never find...

WASHINGTON - Some of the hijackers who crashed a jetliner into the Pentagon (news - web sites) on Sept. 11, 2001, twice set off alarms as they passed through metal detectors that morning at Washington Dulles International Airport, but security screeners did not appear to question them about utility knives investigators believe they were carrying as part of the takeover plot, according to newly disclosed surveillance video. The video represents the only footage known to exist showing any of the Sept. 11 hijackers boarding their final flights that fateful morning. It shows most of the hijackers in Washington were pulled...

July 22, 2004 -- Startling video, never before seen by the public, shows four 9/11 hijackers waltzing through airport security despite setting off metal detectors before boarding the jet they would crash into the Pentagon. Four of the five hijackers of American Airlines Fight 77 were pulled aside by screeners at Washington's Dulles Airport, but were allowed to slip through their grasp after further investigation — including a hand-check of a hijacker's bag for traces of explosives. The grainy video was released by lawyers for victims' families who are suing the airlines a day before today's release of the 9/11...
