The Tampa Bay Times this week resumed its attacks on Florida state officials for enforcing existing law by removing non-citizens and convicted felons from Florida voting rolls. On August 3, the Times published an article, “Renewed ‘scrub’ of Florida voter list has elections officials on edge.” The article quoted local election officials who object to doing the work required to maintain the integrity of local voter rolls. Revealing a lack of objectivity, the article did not quote any elected officials who support efforts to ensure that illegal votes do not cancel out the votes of legal voters. Adding additional bias...

The Department of Justice (DOJ) does little to attempt to assure that a voter is qualified to vote. DOJ should do little because the States, not the Feds, ought to undertake major efforts to assure the integrity of voter identification and also because DOJ is inundated with other clearly Federal demands - criminal felonies, tax litigation, all manner of Federal litigation, investigations, advice by opinions, so forth. Were it that little or no DOJ intervention were necessary to help prevent the nonqualified voter from voting. Unfortunately that is not the situation in many voting districts, particularly in some large urban...

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Republicans have discovered and verified 737 illegal votes in Washington's ultra-close governor's election, state party leaders said Wednesday. The state GOP has filed briefs telling a judge why he shouldn't dismiss the party's legal challenge to the election of Democratic Gov. Christine Gregoire. "Clearly we have more illegal votes than the margin of victory," state Republican Party Chairman Chris Vance said. "The law is on our side." Gregoire won the election by just 129 votes in a hand recount of 2.9 million ballots, after losing the first two counts to Republican Dino Rossi. She was inaugurated earlier...

There were two deadlines for voter registration before the November 2, 2004 election: Mail-in registrations were due on Oct 2. In-person registration was still permissible through Oct. 18. Voters who missed the Oct. 2 deadline but registered by the 18th could only vote absentee. Anybody who missed the Oct. 18 deadline was not eligible to vote on Nov. 2. Along these lines here's an interesting phenomenon in the King County voter list. In the Dec. 29 version of the list, there are 70 voters who registered between 10/3 and 10/18. 4 are recorded as voting absentee, 66 are recorded as...

More people voted in the San Diego mayor's race for write-in candidate Donna Frye than for Mayor Dick Murphy, according to a review yesterday of disputed ballots, but it would take court action for her to be declared the winner. At the end of a full day of ballot examination, county elections workers ... had reviewed 4,854 ballots cast for Frye that were not included in the official results of the Nov. 2 election. Those numbers alone, likely to rise as the ballot review continues today, would put Frye 2,746 votes above Murphy's official total. The ballots were disqualified because...

Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004 Democrats Mad: Non-citizens Can't Vote in Florida The Democrats' election-stealing playbook calls for counting every illegal "vote," but a federal judge in Florida has issued a ruling against them and for fair elections. More than 10,000 foreigners, and people too stupid to check a box on the registration form indicating that they were American citizens, won't get to help decide the election Tuesday, thanks to U.S. District Judge James Lawrence King in Miami. Democrats, Big Labor's AFL-CIO and other left-wing groups had sued elections officials in Democrat-run Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties and elsewhere, but...
