Select Language Commercial Real Estate Troubles Call for 1980s, S&L Style Solution .By Jim SmallJuly 17, 2023 Commercial Real Estate Troubles Call for 1980s, S&L Style SolutionLuca Bravo An upcoming commercial real estate crisis could negatively affect the US economy in a way not seen since the real estate collapse of 2008. Workers aren’t returning to their offices at anywhere near pre-pandemic levels, leaving building owners and banks up against a looming default crisis. That drag could in turn slow the entire US economy, bringing financial pain to a broad swath of the country. Preventing that may require a bolder...

“In some pockets of space, far beyond the limits of our observations,” wrote cosmologist Dan Hooper at the University of Chicago in an email to The Daily Galaxy, referring to the theory of eternal inflation and the inflationary multiverse: “the laws of physics could be very different from those we find in our local universe. Different forms of matter could exist, which experience different kinds of forces. In this sense, what we call ‘the laws of physics’, instead of being a universal fact of nature, could be an environmental fact, which varies from place to place, or from time to...

If you've seen this ad your ears probably cringe. There has been a modest amount of protesting this ad basically for two reasons. The ad is a mommy dearest character "mom" who can't be bothered to listen to the grade school band playing out of tune 2001 a space odyssey. Music teachers are upset, parents are upset, and frankly it makes women look uncaring, not interested in their kids performing, and more interested in me me me. So it fits our times. I rate the ad a 1 out of 10. Very annoying.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Work on the bipartisan infrastructure bill in Congress has ground to a halt as nobody there is sure what number comes after trillion. "I'm so glad we have been able to reach across the aisle on this bill," said House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy. "This should give us enough to dig a hole to the center of the earth and throw all the rest of our money in it, and then paint BLM murals on every road, and also fund the construction of 38 billion new Planned Parenthood locations. The most important part of this deal is that Mr....

On October 6th, Steve Perry got a text from his recording engineer that read, “Oh man, Eddie Van Halen. I can’t believe it.” The former Journey frontman had no idea what he was talking about. “I don’t watch the news anymore,” he says. “And so I picked up the phone and said, ‘What’s going on?'” When he heard the tragic news that the guitarist died after a long battle with cancer, Perry’s mind instantly went back to 1978 when Van Halen opened for Journey for eight weeks on the Infinity tour. He phoned up Rolling Stone to tell stories from...

My 1st grader's homework had a problem about the number of sides on a circle. I have a BS in Math and never thought about it, my initial thought was 1. Turns out there are multiple correct answers: 2 sides: Outside and inside 1 side: There is only one line 0 sides: A circle has no sides. ∞ (infinite) sides: Each point in a circle would be a separate side (yes, way too egghead for 1st grade)

Being gay is dangerous business in Russia, but it’s especially risky when you troll the country’s leading opponent of gay rights. The owners of a St. Petersburg lesbian nightclub, raided today by police, are learning that lesson. Infinity is a “girls-only” nightclub for “St. Petersburg’s most stylish young women.” On February 1, one of the club’s owners and several of her friends were flying from Moscow to St. Petersburg, when they spotted Vitaly Milonov, a lawmaker famous for initiating Russia’s crackdown on LGBT rights. Not fans of his conservative politics, the girls photographed themselves kissing one another in front of...

Infinity Is a Beautiful Concept – And It’s Ruining Physics By Max Tegmark | February 20, 2015 9:00 am I was seduced by infinity at an early age. Georg Cantor’s diagonality proof that some infinities are bigger than others mesmerized me, and his infinite hierarchy of infinities blew my mind. The assumption that something truly infinite exists in nature underlies every physics course I’ve ever taught at MIT—and, indeed, all of modern physics. But it’s an untested assumption, which begs the question: Is it actually true?A Crisis in Physics There are in fact two separate assumptions: “infinitely big” and “infinitely...

It’s a general rule of thumb that whenever a politician says something negative about their opposition, they better not be guilty of the same thing, otherwise they would end up looking incredibly foolish. The latest pol to suffer from this is Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Since she began her tenure as head of the DNC, Wasserman Schultz has gone on the offensive against the Republicans. She accused the GOP of “waging war on the unemployed” and slammed their budget proposal as a “path to poverty.” But her latest attack on the opposition backfired in a major way....

Howard Stern might have a new bone to pick now that he’s moved his risque show to Sirius Satellite Radio. And this time it isn’t with the Federal Communications Commission. The King of All Media is fighting some feisty subjects who don’t want to pay to hear the popular shock jock. Sirius and Stern’s production company, One Twelve Inc., fired off a cease-and-desist letter to at least one Web site that was rebroadcasting the radio host’s show — billed the “Show” — as an audio stream. The letter, which was e-mailed to the administrators of www.hearhoward.org and www.hearhoward100.com, called the...

(Severino Press Release Omits Controversies) With newly syndicated "libertarian/libertine" (read: anti-Bush quasi-liberal) host Jay Severin (real name: Jimmy Severino) still leading the pack, many controversies emanate from just a small number of questionable personalities. Even after exposes by the Boston-area news media on Sag Harbor, New York-based Severin's wild claims of winning a Pulitzer Prize for "online journalism" and other highly questionable assertions, CBS still went ahead with plans to take him national. What does that say about how very little has changed at the network since Rathergate? Teaming up with sister firm Westwood One, a highly misleading press release...

In the middle of a Tuesday conference call announcing Infinity Broadcasting's plans to replace Howard Stern, a familiar voice appeared: Beetlejuice, the diminutive, snaggle-toothed fixture from the shock jock's nationally syndicated morning show. He was quickly cut off, leaving Infinity Broadcasting Corp.'s chairman and CEO Joel Hollander to explain how the prank only demonstrated the significance of the company's plans for a post-Stern existence _ a radio world where rocker David Lee Roth and comedian Adam Carolla will take over 12 of Stern's 27 Infinity markets. "I'm glad Howard thinks this call is important enough to put on Beetlejuice," Hollander...

Was a veteran CBS radio reporter sacked after complaining about her spiked terrorism reporting? That's what Flo Jonic, now fired from WBZ-AM Boston, claims. Among her allegations: that her report on weak security at Boston's One Center Plaza was pulled after FBI complaints. When Jonic sent a scathing newsroom memo objecting to the censorship, she was immediately fired by local CBS/Infinity Broadcasting management.

PHILADELPHIA - A former salesman for the Philadelphia Eagles Radio Network was awarded $614,000 in a discrimination case after being given a book that advised blacks selling to whites not to wear Afros or African-style clothing. "It's been a very tough road, standing up for what you believe in," said Brooks, 34, a native of Camden, N.J., who said his family is of mixed race. Supervisors at the radio network, which...
