Parliament Hill is in under lockdown after reports of shots being fired from inside the halls of the centre block. The situation in Canada is still developing and many reports regarding the violence in Canada are unconfirmed, but what is known is that at least one police officer was wounded when a shooter attacked him at the war memorial in Ottawa. What was described as a “lone gunman” then entered Canada’s parliament building where this person engaged in a firefight with police before he or she was incapacitated. There were two soldiers standing guard at the war memorial in Ottawa near Parliament, and a gunman shot one of them, a witness told CNN on Wednesday. Peter Henderson, a journalist, said other soldiers doing drills nearby ran to help the fallen soldier. Henderson said he knew the person shot was a soldier because of the ceremonial uniform the soldier was wearing. There were "several shooting incidents in downtown Ottawa" on Wednesday morning, police said on Twitter. "Incidents occurred at National War Memorial, near the Rideau Centre and Parliament Hill." President Barack Obama is watching the situation in Ottawa very closely. The CBC reports Obama will be holding a briefing in the next half hour. The U-S Embassy in Ottawa is on lock down. The front doors of the Canadian Embassy in Washington DC have been locked but staff is allowed to come in and out. Ottawa police say no arrests have been made in today’s shootings in Ottawa. They do not have anyone in custody. One shooter is confirmed dead. The R-C-M-P is expected to be out with an update in the next 30 minutes.
