Emmy and Golden Globe winning actor Michael Moriarty recently endorsed fellow Law & Order star Fred Thompson for President of the United States. During a telephone conversation with this writer, Moriarty said: "Whoever does occupy the White House will not overturn Roe v. Wade, nor will he or she put the dictatorial Supreme Court in its place. "However, I will personally vote for Mr. Fred Thompson and help his campaign as best I can, but I don't believe his entrance into this campaign ever carried enough pro-life commitment to do the job that has to be done. In addition, since...

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Hundreds of bottles of Jack Daniel's whiskey, some nearly 100 years old, may have to be poured down the drain. Tennessee state alcohol agents seized 2,400 bottles late last month in raids in Nashville and Lynchburg, the town where Jack Daniels is distilled. Officials say the whiskey was being sold by unlicensed dealers. They're also looking into whether some of the Jack Daniels had been stolen from the distillery. A Canadian who promotes Jack Daniels on his blog says "Punish the person, not the whiskey." The head of the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission says, while it...

Nashville, Tenn. (AP) -- Here's a sobering thought: Hundreds of bottles of Jack Daniel's whiskey, some of it almost 100 years old, may be unceremoniously poured down a drain because authorities suspect it was being sold by someone without a license. Officials seized 2,400 bottles late last month during warehouse raids in Nashville and Lynchburg, the southern Tennessee town where the whiskey is distilled. "Punish the person, not the whiskey," said an outraged Kyle MacDonald, 28, a Jack Daniel's drinker from British Columbia who promotes the whiskey on his blog. "Jack never did anything wrong, and the whiskey itself is...

Here’s something a little more light for a Friday afternoon, but demonstrates the mainstream media’s biased view of the world.Among the "Quick Hits" on CNN’s "American Morning" on Friday was a brief on how the drought in the Southeast is affecting the production of Jack Daniels Tennessee whiskey in Lynchburg, Tennessee. The water levels in the cave spring that supplies the Jack Daniels distillery are "dangerously low" according to the brief by co-host John Roberts. After giving the brief, Roberts and substitute weather forecaster Reynolds Wolf began the weather report with the following exchange: JOHN ROBERTS: "Reynolds Wolf is here with a...

LYNCHBURG, Tenn. - One of the biggest shopping days of the year is also a busy time for Jack Daniel's famous whiskey distillery and its gift shop. Rather than fight the crowds at the mall, many people chose to kick off the holiday shopping season with a trip to Lynchburg, where the words "Black Friday" took on new meaning. "It's Black Friday, but that's because people want the black label," said Michelle Wilson, who toured the distillery in Moore County on Friday. The iconic black label bottles are not sold in the dry county though the state Legislature made a...

On Saturday, Gibson released a statement apologizing: "After drinking alcohol on Thursday night, I did a number of things that were very wrong and for which I am ashamed. I drove a car when I should not have, and was stopped by the L.A. County Sheriffs. The arresting officer was just doing his job and I feel fortunate that I was apprehended before I caused injury to any other person. I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested, and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. I am...

Been here five years as of today. It's been great fun so far. Thought I'd post a vanity to give everyone an opportunity to mess with me in a centralized location for a change.

An Iowa man with white supremacist leanings was arrested after he told truck drivers over "citizens' band" radio that he was planning to set off a bomb in Washington, police said. Terry Daniels, 44, was found at a roadside gas station about 100 miles (160 kilometers) west of Chicago at 3:45 a.m. after truck drivers called police with his license plate number and a description of which direction his blue Ford van was heading. "We didn't find any explosives," Princeton, Illinois police chief Tom Root said. "We found a lot of documents like anti-government stuff and white supremacist stuff. There...

This evening, I went over and turned over my neighbor's picnic table. He will know that it was me who did that. He is a very mean man. Last morning, he snapped at me and my dog for walking across the alley from him while he was sitting at that table. We normally try to stay well away from him. But sometimes, a little revenge feels good. I didn't hurt anything, but it won't be all that easy for him to put things right again. It took a little effort to turn it over. Both hands.

Several of my recent threads / comments have related to a DUI arrest I recently had. I will not defend that. One of the more interesting subjects which came up when I was in jail was whether you can be arrested for "drunk in public" when you are on your own property. My position is that this should not be possible. I like to sit out on my front porch, have a drink or three, and study my shubbery. I am not driving or doing anything else which I consider to be wrong. The overwhelming consensus among my cell-mates is...

Jack Daniels Knocks Back Black-Label To 80 Proof POSTED: 5:31 pm EDT September 29, 2004 NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey is a little less potent these days. The famed "sippin' whiskey" has lowered the alcohol content of its flagship brand, Old Number 7 Black Label. The whiskey, distilled in Lynchburg, Tenn., now registers 80 proof (40 percent alcohol) instead of 86. This has staggered some drinkers. The editor of Modern Drunkard magazine, Kelly Rich, is so disillusioned he's ready to tie one on. "I'm sure Jack is spinning in his grave," he said. The company said most customers...

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - If you've noticed that your Jack Daniel's is carrying a little less kick these days, you're probably right. The famed "sippin' whiskey," which advertises a recipe traced back to the nation's first registered distillery, has lowered the alcohol content of its flagship brand, Old No.7 Black Label. The whiskey now registers 80 proof, instead of 86 (or 40 percent alcohol versus 43 percent), and some drinkers feel betrayed. "You can't screw with a legend like that and get away with it," said Frank Kelly Rich, editor of Modern Drunkard magazine. "I'm sure Jack is spinning in his...

Former New York Governor Mario Cuomo charged Wednesday that President Bush made Saddam Hussein the U.S.'s number one target in the war on terror in part because his family had business dealings with relatives of Osama bin Laden. On hand to discuss the 2004 presidential election at a 21 Club breakfast with a panel of guests that included "60 Minutes" correspondent Leslie Stahl, radio host Monica Crowley, Democratic consultant Robert Zimmerman and commentator Bay Buchanan, Cuomo excoriated Bush for mishandling both the economy and the war on terror, complaining at one point: "Who's winning the war on terrorism? The...
