Veteran reporter and talk radio host Andrea Shea King reported this weekend at her blog, The Radio Patriot that a close friend of the Reagan family has contradicted the claim by the Obama administration-in-waiting that President-elect Obama had a "warm conversation" with former First Lady Nancy Reagan when he called her to apologize for insulting her at a press conference Friday afternoon.Responding to a question by Lynn Sweet of the Chicago Sun-Times about whether he had consulted with "any living ex-presidents", Obama replied:"In terms of speaking to former presidents, I've spoken to all of them that are living. Obviously, President...

Barack Obama conducted his first press conference as President Elect, with Vice President Elect Joe Biden and his Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel at his side and his economic advisors, looking appropriately dour and serious, standing behind him. There was not much in the way of news made at the Obama press conference, aside from a shot taken at an old lady named Nancy Reagan. The majority of the questions were about the current economic situation and what Obama intends to do about it. The short answer appears to be the enactment of some kind of economic stimulus package, the...

It is difficult to screw up an appearance at Ground Zero on September 11th. You have to be either completely oblivious or completely indifferent. It is a signal feat of idiocy. And yet Barack Obama accomplished it. John McCain and Obama visited Ground Zero together. Obama and McCain entered the site. But while McCain took the time to shake hands with uniformed firefighters and a construction worker with an American flag helmet, Obama ignored them and stood around. But he wasn’t done yet. Both McCain and Obama brought roses to place on the makeshift 9/11 memorial. Obama casually tossed his...

John McCain's campaign acknowledged this weekend that Sarah Palin is unprepared to be vice president or president of the United States. Of course, McCain's people said no such thing. But their actions told you all you needed to know. McCain, Barack Obama and Joe Biden all subjected themselves to tough questioning on the regular Sunday news programs. Palin was the only no-show. And it's not just the Sunday interviews. She has not opened herself to any serious questioning since McCain picked her to be next in line for the presidency.

An East Boston sicko is facing up to 25 years in state prison for stomping a neighborhood cat to death, lighting its carcass on fire and nearly burning down an apartment building into which he threw the torched tabby. Luigi Epifania, 25, will be sentenced Monday for last year’s death of “Nunu,” in what Suffolk District Attorney Daniel Conley called “a cruel and cowardly act.” A Suffolk Superior Court jury convicted Epifania yesterday of arson and killing a domestic animal, but that’s just the beginning of his troubles. WASHINGTON (AP) -- A technical glitch on an unrelated piece of legislation forced Democrats Wednesday to jerk their election-year fiscal blueprint from the House floor. The nonbinding budget plan has already been delayed by more than a month when congressional leaders discovered Wednesday that they had failed to send to President Bush a portion of the farm bill. He vetoed the rest of that measure Wednesday and the House overrode the veto. In short, the glitch on the farm bill needs to be fixed before the budget can pass or else the boost to farm and food programs can't be...

On this Super Sunday, it's fitting I suppose that Mike Huckabee would be out there blocking and tackling for Team McCain. Appearing on this morning's Today show, the former Arkansas governor made a pro forma claim that he's still running for president and not the veep slot. But Huckabee certainly seemed to be acting as what Mark Steyn described in a recent Hugh Hewitt interview as McCain's "wing man." Consider Huckabee's reply to a question from Sunday co-host Jenna Wolfe [a resident, coincidentally, of Chappaqua, NY, home to Bill and Hillary.] Video at link.

It is uncertain whether revelations of sexual "JFK" role-playing and narcissistic orgasms will hurt his presidential campaign. One of the world's most notorious spammers has settled lawsuits with the state of Texas and Microsoft Corp that cost him at least $1 million, took away most of his assets and forced him to stop sending the nuisance e-mails. Ryan Pitylak, 24, who graduated from the University of Texas last month, has admitted sending 25 million e-mails every day at the height of his spamming operation in 2004. At one time, Pitylak was listed as the fourth-worst spammer in the world by the Spamhaus Project, a London-based international clearinghouse that tracks spammers and works closely with law enforcement officials....

Kerry Attacks Bush Over Iraq Policies The administration's choice of confrontation instead of diplomacy has harmed the U.S., the senator says in a speech in Los Angeles. By Ashraf Khalil, Times Staff Writer June 2, 2006 Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) harshly criticized the Bush administration for "disdaining diplomacy" in favor of a confrontational and unilateral foreign policy that has hurt the United States' standing around the world and made it less safe. In a speech Thursday in Los Angeles, the former (and perhaps future) Democratic Party presidential candidate warned that the mistakes of Iraq must not be repeated in the...
  • Bonds Likes His Numbers Better Than Babe Ruth

Bonds likes his numbers better than Babe Ruth May 08 10:53 AM US/Eastern. A boastful Barry Bonds said if he passes Babe Ruth that his place in history would be secure. Asked if he would consider himself better than Ruth if he vaults ahead of the New York Yankees legend for second place on the all-time home run list, Bonds said: "I don't know yet, but the numbers speak for themselves." The embattled Bonds moved within one home run of Ruth for the No 2 spot, but it was in a losing cause as San Francisco lost 9-5 to Philadelphia...

What it takes to be a jerk BY DAVE BARRY (This classic Dave Barry column was originally published on Sept. 29, 1996.) Recently, when I was having a hamburger at an outdoor restaurant, two guys started up their Harley-Davidson motorcycles, parked maybe 25 feet from me. Naturally, being Harley guys, these were rebels -- lone wolves, guys who do it Their Way, guys who do not follow the crowd. You could tell because they were wearing the same jeans, jackets, boots, bandannas, sunglasses, belt buckles, tattoos and (presumably) underwear worn by roughly 28 million other lone-wolf Harley guys. And, of...

Dear Barry, You've just resumed your chase on history, going after a record some thought would never be touched, and I'm with you every step of the way. I know you have taken a lot of heat over the years, and with all the recent news about a new book whose goal is to bring you down, it seems like that disdain isn't about to go away. And I don't know why. While many people seem to take joy in expressing the amount of distaste they feel for you, I come as a friend, a light in the dark who...

Playing By Our Own Rules My Two Cents on Overdoing It By David J. Aland 7 April 2006 Homeowners Associations are a mixed blessing. On the face, they are governmental microcosms – Jeffersonian democracies in miniature; but they can also be a pain, albeit a necessary one. Essentially, all governments are a mutual agreement to limitations for the common good, but that only works when the governed agree to play by the very rules they have agreed upon. Recently, I watched a gentleman rant at a homeowners meeting, because his property had been cited for stained siding. As he spluttered...

I guess everyone's heard the story by now. When I get to the studios I'm sure that Web Guy will tell me we've had hundreds of emails on the subject. It seems that Georgia's embarrassment, Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, has slugged, or slapped, or punched, or hit ... whatever ... a capitol hill police officer. Here is the way it was reported to have happened. Cynthia is entering one of the House office buildings. It wasn't the building in which her office is located. She was not wearing the lapel pin that identifies her as a member of congress. She exercises...
