Lawyers for Gov. Jim Gibbons and first lady Dawn Gibbons, who has accused her husband of having an affair, said Monday the couple's divorce action filed by the governor is on hold pending "an attempt to resolve issues" in the case. Cal Dunlap, Dawn Gibbons' lawyer, and Gary Silverman, the governor's attorney, also said Dawn Gibbons will move out of the Governor's Mansion and into a guest house on the mansion grounds in Carson City. The governor, who has been staying at the couple's home in Reno, will move back into the mansion.

One of the most inhospitable places in the country, Coyote Springs Valley is so barren that, until recently, its best use was thought to be as a weapons test range. Yet the valley — an hour northeast of Las Vegas — is on its way to becoming a real estate development of historic proportions, with as many as 159,000 homes, 16 golf courses and a full complement of stores and service facilities. At nearly 43,000 acres, Coyote Springs covers almost twice as much space as the next-largest development in a state famous for outsized building projects. Helping make Coyote Springs...

The three leading Republicans in Nevada governor's race faced off in the first debate of the campaign Friday, using much of the live matchup to jockey for the title of most fiscally conservative candidate. The hour-long debate marked the first time U.S. Rep Jim Gibbons, the Republican front-runner who has recently slipped in the polls, faced his primary opponents, surging state Sen. Bob Beers and Lt. Gov Lorraine Hunt, on television. "I want to thank U.S. Rep. Jim Gibbons for finally showing up and Sen. Bob Beers for always showing up," Hunt said. Beers and Hunt have dogged Gibbons for...

A while back, Rep. Jim Gibbons requested the Congressional Research Staff to put together a memo concerning the NFRTR (NFA database) and reported abuses, missing information, etc. The CRS compiled the memo and Jim Gibbons has released it. Here is a link to the PDF file. http://www.nfaoa.org/documents/CRSmemoNFRTR0001.pdf This document shows coverups, deliberate illegal changes to the NFRTR database and brings to light the questionable practices of the BATF. Due to the nature of the abuses and the consequenses of the actions of the BATF, I feel that this document shows grounds for a repeal of the 1986 machine gun ban...

Republican Rep. Jim Gibbons has both the highest name recognition and the best chance to be Nevada's next governor, according to a poll of statewide voters. Gibbons trounces potential Republican primary opponents and beats both likely Democratic candidates by double digits, according to the survey of 625 Nevada voters commissioned by the Review-Journal and reviewjournal.com. Voters were polled May 12-14 by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research Inc., based in Washington, D.C. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points. For the Republican and Democratic subgroup questions, the margin is 6 percentage points. On the high...

Nevada Congressman Jim Gibbons is defending remarks that Democrats call a personal attack on opponents of the Iraq war. Gibbons spoke Friday to a group of Republicans at a dinner in Elko. On the subject of celebrities protesting the war and President Bush Gibbons said, "I say we tell those liberal, tree-hugging, Birkenstock-wearing, hippie, tie-dyed liberals to go make their movies and their music, and whine somewhere else." Gibbons' statements were reported in the Elko Daily Free Press. In a written statement, Gibbons said he supports our troops and doesn't apologize for that, and that anti-war remarks by celebrities and...

3 GOP Lawmakers May Seek Governors' Seats By DAVID ESPO ASSOCIATED PRESS WASHINGTON (AP) - Less than a month into a new, two-year Congress, the line is forming among House members considering their next career moves. Republican Rep. C.L. (Butch) Otter of Idaho is all but officially running for governor of his state, and GOP Reps. Jim Nussle of Iowa and Jim Gibbons of Nevada both seem headed in the same direction in theirs. All three have filed paperwork signaling interest in running. "We will run a vigorous campaign," said one former Idaho governor, Phil Batt, leaving no doubt about...

Now that Jim Gibbons has confirmed he is not running for senate, it is open season on Sierra Harry! A strong presence by conservatives at his announcement would probably help this guy get his campaign in motion. From the e-mail alert I received this afternoon. WASHINGTON -- Ending months of speculation, Rep. Jim Gibbons on Sunday said he would not challenge Sen. Harry Reid in next year's U.S. Senate race in Nevada. Gibbons' decision removes the biggest obstacle in Reid's path to a fourth term and leaves Republicans scrambling to find a candidate who can mount an effective campaign for the Senate in 2004. In an interview by phone from his home in Reno, Gibbons cited his desire to continue his work on House committees against terrorism as the big reason he chose not to seek the Republican nomination. "I would love to be a...

I have no inside information to back this up but I think my theory is so simple that it must be true. Gibbons has said he will either run for Senate in 2004 or Run for Governor in 2006. Here's why he will run for Senate: Right now Gibbons has decent name recognition in Nevada, but it could be higher. What he will do is take down Reid in 2004, because he knows that although Reid will fight extremely hard, that Gibbons is still extremely likely to win the Senate seat because of his strength in Washoe County, and that...

IF YOU'RE like me, with the holiday season upon us, your thoughts are turning to warm, wonderful and happy thoughts -- such as Sen. Harry Reid's re-election campaign. Reid has visions of Rep. Jim Gibbons dancing in his head and has been calling the Strip Santas to implore them to leave a lump of coal in the Republican congressman's stocking. Gibbons has been making his wish list and checking it twice before presenting it to the White House Santa, who could help make the congressman's dream of being a member of the Club of 100 come true. In case you...

As a corollary to these predictions, Rep. Jim Gibbons can expect phone calls from the White House asking him to run against Reid in 2004. In fact, Gibbons has already taken steps to form an exploratory committee. It would be tough for a loyal Republican to say no to his president, but Gibbons has a good relationship with Reid. What's more, there are some in his party who want him to run for governor, not U.S. Senate...

2004 SENATE RACE: Reid downplays results of GOP survey Poll suggests Democrat would be in dogfight with Gibbons WASHINGTON -- A Republican poll shows Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., leading Rep. Jim Gibbons, R-Nev., 48 percent to 40 percent, in a potential matchup of the 2004 Senate race in Nevada. The National Republican Senatorial Committee requested the poll, a telephone survey of 500 registered voters in Nevada, during the last three days of January, said Dan Allen, the committee's communications director. Allen said the poll's margin of error was plus or minus 4 percentage points. The poll was conducted by Moore...
