  • 'Dr. George' Fischbeck dies at 92; popular weatherman at KABC-TV

    Los Angeles Times ^ | March 25, 2015 | Valerie J. Nelson
George Fischbeck, a science teacher turned weatherman who joined KABC-TV in 1972 and spent nearly two decades exuberantly delivering the local forecast, has died. He was 92. Fischbeck, who was known as "Dr. George," died of natural causes early Wednesday morning at the Motion Picture & Television Fund retirement home in Woodland Hills, his daughter, Nancy Fischbeck, said. A trained meteorologist, George Fischbeck was so enthusiastic about his subject that he sometimes forgot to talk about the next day's weather.

The popular Libertarian occupied the 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. time slot, which will now be filled by guest hosts. KABC, one of the largest AM radio stations in Los Angeles, has parted ways with Larry Elder, one of the channel's most popular talk-show hosts. The station, owned by Cumulus Media, declined to comment on Elder's departure, though insiders said advertising sales executives were blindsided by the decision and voiced their displeasure to a defensive Drew Hayes, KABC's operations director. Elder, a sometimes controversial, always passionate and eloquent Libertarian, had been with KABC for about 20 years, though separated into...

I've been in studio with him before, but since I am not an A list guest, he no longer had my number. LOL He wanted to discuss Susan Estrich. Juanita, a rape survivor like Susan, was not pleased that Estrich was essentially calling her a liar about Clinton raping her. Susan, of course, refused. She sent a very simple email back - not interested. Susan did not like it...

As Person of the Year, Time magazine named "The Protester." The subhead read, "From the Arab Spring to Athens, From Occupy Wall Street to Moscow." Well, yes, but what about the lack of American black protesters? Good Lord, where is the racial diversity/inclusion/proportional representation? Back in the day, the Tea Party's alleged lack of black participants was beyond worrisome to the media. The lack of black faces in the crowd allowed the major media to describe the Tea Party as racially exclusionary, if not ... racist! "Some of them in Congress right now with this Tea Party movement," said Rep....

WRKO 680 Boston is apparently joining WABC New York and KABC Los Angeles in dropping Coast to Coast from its lineup, though apparently for a different reason. The NYC and LA stations are picking up the new Doug McIntyre show from Citadel while WRKO will be re-running Howie Carr from 1-5 am And this latter case in Boston probably has to do with the fact that Clear Channel is launching a talk station in April on AM 1200, WXKS. Oops, President Obama did it again. He thoughtlessly, carelessly and offensively whipped out the race card. Some people — not just black — voted for Obama because of his race. Many expected an Obama election to (a) improve "race relations" and (b) make a profound statement about America's inclusiveness. Obama's election would show how close we've come to Dr. Martin Luther King's vision of a society that judges people by the content of their character rather than the color of their skin. He seemed so uplifting. A biracial candidate (white mom, black dad), he refreshingly responded to Steve Kroft's "60 Minutes"...

LISTEN TO KABC ONLINE Ann Coulter, basking in the glory of her very good performance on the Jay Leno show, will be on KABC radio today in Los Angeles. Al Rantel is subbing today for Larry in the 3-6pm time slot. The funeral of Larry's mom Viola is today. After the Leno show, Ann was very gracious with her time at a dinner with supporters. Conservative get togethers are so nice. Unlike leftist events, our people are friendly and believe in hygiene. We don't destroy property, scream profanity, or leave human excrement in the streets. Most importantly (not that...

I really do not think that Roman Catholics know the churches position on this matter.I know that there...

The principal of a Los Angeles charter elementary school said Wednesday that neither he nor his staff ordered the assault of a KABC-AM radio reporter last week. Sandy Wells, the reporter working for KABC's morning show, "McIntyre in the Morning," was allegedly assaulted outside the school last week by a man demanding his audio tape. Station officials said Wells was also followed as he drove away. Rumors of Aguilar's involvement stemmed from an on-air caller to KABC's morning show, claiming he witnessed Aguilar order the attack, according to producer John Phillips. Police are investigating the incident. "I know for a...
