LOS ANGELES (AP) - Authorities say flames from a major wildfire north of Los Angeles are about to reach Mount Wilson, home to a historic observatory and transmitters for every major television and radio station in the area. Los Angeles County Fire Capt. Mark Savage tells KABC-TV Sunday that "it's not a matter of if it impacts Mount Wilson, it's a matter of when," and estimated that the flames could leap to the top of the mountain within a few hours. Savage says firefighters could be pulled at any moment if the situation becomes dangerous. Television stations say if the...

Oops, President Obama did it again. He thoughtlessly, carelessly and offensively whipped out the race card. Some people — not just black — voted for Obama because of his race. Many expected an Obama election to (a) improve "race relations" and (b) make a profound statement about America's inclusiveness. Obama's election would show how close we've come to Dr. Martin Luther King's vision of a society that judges people by the content of their character rather than the color of their skin. He seemed so uplifting. A biracial candidate (white mom, black dad), he refreshingly responded to Steve Kroft's "60 Minutes"...

We part with KABC's respect, gratitude and best wishes for what we believe will be a very bright future given Larry's many talents." (translated: get out of the building, we need ratings)(laugh)

Yesterday, Larry Elder's radio show completed its fifteen year run on KABC in Los Angeles. It's hard to believe, but the "Larry Elder Show" is done. His departure from the airwaves - announced only the day before to the shock and disappointment of his legion of fans ("El Dorados") - puts a serious hurt on the talk radio genre.I don't think I can overstate it.I adore Larry Elder, and I will miss him.He was as unique as he was entertaining - a libertarian (with a small "l") who broke ranks with big "L" crowd on foreign policy. He dubbed...

After 15 years on KABC-AM (790) in Los Angeles, afternoon drive host Larry Elder told his listeners on Thursday that Friday will be his last day. Elder said “We've been together in joy & sorrow. Good economies & bad. So it’s with sadness I must tell you that KABC management & I have decided that (Friday) will be my last broadcast on KABC.” Elder left a message on his website, but did not release any details. KABC announced that Al Rantel will take over afternoon drive (3-7pm), followed by the syndicated Curtis Sliwa from 7-10pm local time, the syndicated Mark...

Has Al Rantel flipped out? He's be getting more and more far out as time goes on. He doesn't fear Obama. He does fear Sarah Palin because she said that the VP runs the Senate. Read the constitution, Al. Click on the link and judge for yourself.

LISTEN ONLINE TO KABC Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of Green Car Journal, is one of the top automotive writers in the country. He is often quoted on MSNBC and newspapers. Ron will be discussing with Al Rantel the Green Car of the Year, which his magazine names each year at the L.A. Auto Show. I've done some writing for his newsletter and magazine and worked on several ride and drive events. It was at a ride and drive a few years ago in San Francisco where I nailed Arianna Huffington caught in a Chevy Suburban. She was mocked...

NOTE: it was a great broadcast, speech, and dinner. I would vote for the Sage from South Central for the Senate or Calif Gov in a heartbeat. I'd work for his campaign. Al Rantel, for whom I've been filling in, has announced that he has been diagnosed with a highly treatable form of lymphoma and is now undergoing chemotherapy. I'll read his announcement letter on the air at the top of the 7pm hour. If you like, feel free to leave your messages here for Al, and the KABC website also has a place for updates and where you can leave your best wishes. Al's a great guy and considers his listenership his family. Please send your prayers and best vibes to him through this difficult time.

Does anyone know what has happened to Al Rantel, the evening guy on KABC talk radio in Los Angeles? Tammy Bruce is beginning her 3rd week of subbing for him, and I think I heard her mention last week that people were all wishing he pulls through. Is he seriously ill? I can't find out anything from any of their websites. I'd like to pray for him or send him a note, but I was wondering if anyone knows what is going on. Thank you.

KABC weekend host Rob Nelson interviewed Los Angeles mayoral candidate Walter Moore during the 5pm hour. When it was time to take calls, the first caller posed a challenge to him that was obviously inspired by the Reconquista mayor's affair with the Telemundo reporter covering him (literally). For those who don't know, the reporter, Mirthala Salinas, was actually the anchor on the air announcing the break up of Villaraigosa's marriage. I wonder if that was a TV first. Caller question: "Walter, I know of at least one candidate who will not take the pledge, but will you take a pledge...

A year-long feud between a talk radio personality and an L.A. charter school is ending up in an unusual court case. School administrators filed a lawsuit this week against KABC-AM (790) and Doug McIntyre, alleging the host of "McIntyre in the Morning" targeted the school in a slanderous, racially motivated campaign last summer that resulted in a bomb threat to the school and ongoing security risks. Academia Semillas del Pueblo and Marcos Aguilar, the El Sereno school's co-director, claim McIntyre "targeted the school for destruction because the children were Latino, the teachers were Latino, the principal director was Latino," according...

SANTA YNEZ, Calif., September 26, 2006 - Southern California broadcasting pioneer Ralph Story has died. The Emmy award winning reporter and anchor lost a long battle today with emphysema. Story started in broadcasting in Buffalo in 1948 and went on to work at KNX radio in Los Angeles in the late 1940s. He then moved to CBS's sister TV station in Los Angeles, KNXT, now KCBS-TV in the early 1960s. Story was a part of "The Big News," one of the nation's first hour long local newscasts, working as the newscast's feature reporter. The popularity of his segments led to...

A radical Hispanic group is promoting a boycott of the Walt Disney Company because, contends the Mexica Movement, the entertainment giant "has made a habit of hiring talk show hosts who spread the Minutemen white supremacist racist agenda." The boycott announcement specifically cites radio legend and Presidential Medal of Freedom winner Paul Harvey, as well as popular talker Doug McIntyre. Both Harvey and McIntyre are nationally syndicated by ABC, which is owned by Disney. McIntyre was instrumental in exposing a taxpayer-funded Los Angeles school backed by radical groups that lay claim to the Southwestern U.S. As WND reported, the principal...

Mexican politicians continuously demand more visas for their citizens, an expanded guest-worker program, and "regularization" of illegal aliens living north of the Rio Grande. While neglecting to mention that the United States admits nearly one million legal newcomers each year, they also fail to publicize: (1) the extremely high salaries they receive, often—in the case of federal and state legislators—more than their counterparts in developed nations that have substantially longer annual sessions, (2) the generous stipends that they grant themselves, including year-end aguinaldos and end-of-term bonuses of tens of thousands of dollars known as bonos de marcha, and (3) the...

LOS ANGELES - A potentially powerful expatriate voting bloc likely will have little effect on Mexico's presidential race because of the illegal status of many who live in the United States. Thousands of Mexican expatriates streamed into border towns Sunday to vote in their homeland's elections and others were allowed to cast absentee ballots for the first time. Still, many more were disenfranchised by their fear of crossing the border as undocumented residents. "I really wanted to vote, but I don't have papers so I couldn't go to Mexico" to get a voter card, said Adriana Lopez, 27, a housewife...

In Southern California, conservative radio has reached a new ratings high: first place. That would be KFI-AM we're talking about, home of Rush Limbaugh and morning host Bill Handel. With an overall share of 4.9 revealed in the lastest monthly Arbitron trend report, KFI has rocketed into the number one position, surpassing Spanish language formats and FM music stations. As far as we can tell, it's the first time this has occurred in Los Angeles.

LISTEN TO KABC ONLINE Ann Coulter, basking in the glory of her very good performance on the Jay Leno show, will be on KABC radio today in Los Angeles. Al Rantel is subbing today for Larry in the 3-6pm time slot. The funeral of Larry's mom Viola is today. After the Leno show, Ann was very gracious with her time at a dinner with supporters. Conservative get togethers are so nice. Unlike leftist events, our people are friendly and believe in hygiene. We don't destroy property, scream profanity, or leave human excrement in the streets. Most importantly (not that...

I am posting this article because very few people know that the Catholic Church is going out of their way to make sure CIRA is the law of the land. The church has supported illegal immigration for many years and they have been active in getting CIRA passed. I also publishing this article in the hopes that the many Catholics who support the House of Representatives would know what their church is doing on the illegal immigration issue in the United States. I really do not think that Roman Catholics know the churches position on this matter.I know that there...

Guys this is a propaganda piece from the California Charter Schools Association in support of Marcus Aguilar and his school. It was released on June 7, 2006 and it flew under the radar. Since I like taking news that have been thrown in the garbage, I thought I would share it with you. What is interesting is the press release are filled with lies and it tries to promote Mr. Aguilar and the make up of the school itself. This "press release also tries to blame us(even though it does not name us) for the dissiminating bad information and inflammantory...

As Academia Semillas del Pueblo holds an open house, supporters deny criticism that the campus promotes a separatist agenda. Academia Semillas del Pueblo, a charter elementary school in El Sereno, held an open house Thursday, ... and defended the school against charges that it was teaching a separatist racial agenda and was lagging in student achievement. Controversy surrounding Semillas del Pueblo exploded on talk radio and the conservative Internet blogosphere last week after assertions were made that the school enrolled only Latinos and was instructing students in Nahuatl, a native language of Mexico. ... The district, which approved the school's...

Marcos Aguilar is the founder and principal of La Academia Semillas del Pueblo, a charter school in El Sereno. Maribel Santiago, a UCLA undergraduate, interviewed him for TCLA. The principal of a Los Angeles charter elementary school said Wednesday that neither he nor his staff ordered the assault of a KABC-AM radio reporter last week. Sandy Wells, the reporter working for KABC's morning show, "McIntyre in the Morning," was allegedly assaulted outside the school last week by a man demanding his audio tape. Station officials said Wells was also followed as he drove away. Rumors of Aguilar's involvement stemmed from an on-air caller to KABC's morning show, claiming he witnessed Aguilar order the attack, according to producer John Phillips. Police are investigating the incident. "I know for a...

Responding to allegations of discrimination, the school district has concluded that an elementary school catering to students of Mexican descent is following its charter, officials said Monday. The district sent observers after Sandy Wells, a reporter working for KABC-AM, was allegedly assaulted outside the school Thursday by a man who demanded his audio tape. Station officials said Wells was also followed as he drove away. Police are investigating the incident. CBS) LOS ANGELES A local radio reporter was assaulted Thursday while leaving a Los Angeles charter school that his station has said imparts separatist ethics, a station official said. The reporter, Sandy Wells, was not hurt, according to station spokesman Steve Sheldon. Wells was leaving the campus of Academia Semillas Del Pueblo, 4736 Huntington Drive, after interviewing the principal when a car came around the corner, jumped the curb and the driver tried to run him down, Sheldon said. Wells managed to dodge the car, but the driver, a man who appeared to be in his mid-20s, got out and...

It's a sure sign of industry saturation: with liberal talk radio now the flavor of the month (despite the lack of results), every Progressive Peter or Socialist Sally who's ever walked a precinct, waved a sign, or run for town council, seems ready to kick off a syndicated talk program. Announcements of new efforts, some by relatively unknown people, now seem to emerge ever more frequently.

Newly released Arbitron radio ratings bring some questions to mind, such as: --- Will Air America's apologists finally come up with a fresh batch of excuses, after insisting more time was needed for it to catch on?
