Democratic nominee Chad Taylor dropped out of the race for U.S. Senate in Kansas on Wednesday, an 11th hour move that could clear the way for his party to rally behind and independent candidate and potentially change the math in the battle for the Senate majority. Taylor, who raised little money and had not gained traction in the campaign, submitted a letter to the Kansas secretary of state's office that said he was withdrawing from the contest, without providing any further information. An e-mail to his spokesman seeking more information on why he bowed out was not immediately returned. The...

Let me summarize the Hill article: as of this moment, hastily-withdrawn Chad Taylor is back on the ballot for Kansas’s Senate race. Turns out that state law has very specific criteria for withdrawing from the ballot after the primary – like being dead, or being incapable to do the job. And if it’s the latter, you have to say so. Chad Taylor, in his withdrawal letter, did not. Better and better, even if Taylor is allowed to withdraw then the state Democratic party is obliged to put up a replacement. This puts Democrats in a definite bind. It would seem...

Democrat Chad Taylor must stay on the ballot for U.S. Senate in Kansas, Secretary of State Kris Kobach said Thursday afternoon. Kobach said Taylor submitted a letter Wednesday to withdraw from the race but did not declare he was incapable of serving, which is also required. The Kansas Republican Party had questioned whether Taylor, the Shawnee County district attorney, could withdraw. Kansas law means “we now have no choice” but to put Taylor’s name on the ballot, Kobach told reporters at an afternoon news conference. “The law is the law.” Read more here: http://www.kansas.com/news/politics-government/election/article1504835.html#storylink=cpy

President Trump spoke at a rally in Kansas Saturday night, praising his newly-confirmed Supreme Court pick Brett Kavanaugh while also slamming Democrats and urging people to vote Republican in the upcoming midterm elections. Upon taking the stage, Trump told the crowd he was "thrilled" to be with them on a "truly historic night." The president was in Kansas to support Kris Kobach, the GOP nominee for governor, as well as political newcomer Steve Watkins, a Republican seeking to succeed retiring congresswoman, Lynn Jenkins. The president praised Republican senators and Kavanaugh, calling him "a man of great character and intellect," while...

President in Topeka Saturday to rally Republicans in what protest organizer calls ‘highly charged’ environment President Donald Trump will appear in Topeka, Kansas, Saturday night to rally support for candidates in two competitive House races and gubernatorial candidate Kris Kobach. But organizers of a large counter demonstration are concerned about public safety. Police will corral demonstrators onto sidewalks sandwiched between traffic on a four-lane road and metal fencing more typically used to enclose livestock, the Topeka-Capital Journal reported. Demonstrators will split between the north side of the venue in a space designated for Trump supporters and the south side in...

The Left's romance with the Islamic Republic ensues. The Senate debated on Tuesday a resolution introduced by Vermont Socialist Bernie Sanders that would require the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Yemen. The surprising support the resolution won from 44 U.S. Senators handed a big win to Iran, which is engaged in a hot war with Saudi Arabia on the Arabian Peninsula. And it was a huge slap in the face to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, who was meeting with President Trump in the White House as the Senate debated the motion on the floor. It also showed the...

President Trump’s former immigration adviser and populist conservative Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach is leading in the state’s latest gubernatorial race, a new poll reveals. The latest Emerson College Poll has Kobach leading the race by one percentage point, taking 37 percent while liberal Democrat Laura Kelly takes 36 percent of the vote. Independent candidate, Greg Orman, takes less than ten percent of the vote, while 15 percent of Kansans said they are still undecided as to whom they will vote for. Kobach is expecting a boost in the polls after this weekend when Trump flies to Kansas to...

According to investigators, the deputy picked up the food from the McDonald’s drive-thru while Hockaday was working. Officials say a short time after drinking the beverage, the deputy experienced flu-like symptoms, KOAM reports. “He thought he caught the bug, but we found out two weeks later when an employee came forward and told the police department,” Allen County Sheriff Bryan Murphy said to the Wichita Eagle. According to the publication, a co-worker of Hockaday came forward and said Hockaday added “four little squirts” of the cleaner to the cop’s beverage. “In today’s day and age, not only us in law...

Controversy is already brewing as the President plans his visit to Topeka. A local political group is planning a protest for the day of his rally. Kris Kobach said he is thrilled that the president is coming to town to support his campaign. "There is a lot at stake in the Kansas gubernatorial election, and he'll remind people that November 6th is the day. It's interesting in off presidential years the size of the electorate really shrinks, but I think a presidential visit reminds people that this is a big deal, he came here for a reason, and I have...

A Republican super PAC is hitting Democratic congressional candidate Paul Davis with a new attack ad in Kansas’ 2nd congressional district that details his apparent “strong history” with strip clubs. The ad from the Congressional Leadership Fund (CFL), provided first to Fox News, highlights Davis’ “history with strip clubs” – pointing to his involvement with a club that was raided in the late 1990s as well as legislation he voted on as a state lawmaker. Davis is a former state representative who also ran unsuccessfully for governor as a Democrat in 2014. But nearly two decades earlier, in the late...

Working in the funeral home business is one of those types of jobs that people don’t think about very much… until they have to. When a loved one passes, they must then confront a reality that exists for every human being. Fortunately, there are people like Joshua Meyer and Kenton LeBlanc ready to help guide a family through an emotionally difficult time. “In a way, it's a calling,” Meyer said. “I kind of liken it to someone becoming a minister. It’s the type of job not a lot of people consider, but for some of us it becomes a passion...

Quick action by a vigilant pro-Second Amendment student at the University of Kansas has resulted in shutting down a professor’s anti-gun syllabus. After KU senior Victoria Snitsar shared a copy of the offending syllabus with university officials, the university forced the professor to remove language from his class syllabus that is not “in compliance with university guidelines and state law.” In his syllabus history professor Eric Rath requested students “not bring firearms to class or anywhere I am present.” Referencing widely discredited and biased gun control claims, Rath’s syllabus warned students that carrying a firearm could increase a student’s likelihood...

Joseph Randle was arrested early Friday morning in Wichita, Kansas, and charged with rape, the latest run-in with authorities for the former Cowboys running back. Online records show Randle, 26, was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail at 3:43 a.m. and charged with rape and a probation violation. There was no bond listed for either charge. The Wichita Eagle noted Randle was sentenced to five years' probation in June after being found guilty of aggravated burglary, aggravated battery, criminal threat and marijuana possession. That conviction stemmed from a 2016 incident in which Randle intentionally backed into three people with his...
