BISHKEK, KYRGYZSTAN - The shock waves from Kyrgyzstan's lightning revolution are spreading around the former Soviet Union - and into the heart of Russia - leading analysts to wonder which regimes might be next to face the peoples' wrath. Recent days have seen a spate of copycat protests launched by opposition groups that were perhaps hoping their own local authorities might fold and flee under pressure, as did Kyrgyz President Askar Akayev when demonstrators stormed his Bishkek complex last week. About 1,000 people rallied last Friday in the capital of Belarus, where President Alexander Lukashenko runs the last Soviet-style dictatorship...

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has alienated a lot of different interest groups with his ambitious plans to overhaul state government, but a host of experts agree with him on one big point. By taking on teachers, unions, pensions, legislative redistricting and Democrats all at once, he's transformed what would have been an off-election year in California into a fierce political battlefield with potentially profound national implications. "It's huge on the national radar screen," said Kevin Spillane, a Republican political consultant in Sacramento. "There's no doubt the special election will be the biggest political story this year." Democrats and organized labor accuse...

The Illuminati rule America! Who are the super rich "elite" Illuminati and their associates? The Queen of England, her husband Prince Philip and the Royal House of Windsor, the hierarchy on the board of directors of the Vatican, including the Pope; the Rothschilds, Rockefellers, Morgans, Duponts, Fords, Carnegies, Melons, Bush's etc. To get the details of who the Illuminati are, put Illuminati in www.google.com It is not the American people who choose the President and Vice President of the United States of America, but rather the super secret "shadow government" called the Illuminati/New World Order who choose them! Various researchers,...

Is it really necessary that on ever thread somebody puts that it's Bush's fault? Can we pls get over it and move forward?
-
No No, All of the people in the picture survived. This due to quick acting by-standers who immediately helped two people with mouth2mouth but all others did not need help, but rather minor medical attention to cuts and bruises. The cameraman on the van/truck survived as well.

I was once a loney freeper. A freeper without a "1", pleasently picking on user "Ash" daily, now I have a (one)"1". What did I win to become a 'one'? Back in the days of Teddy Roosevelt, I signed on to FR. (May, 98.) Then somebody hit the wrong button and BOOFF! I was eliminated, disenfranchised, erased from memory. Gone, Capute! Subsequently, posing as a lurker, I saw an old thread I had started from July, '98. I tried to post to it. Nothing. I tried again. Nothing! I emailed JimRob. He said my user ID was gone! Not banished,...

For the past several months, fate has conspired to keep me away from the computer. I haven't posted nearly as much on FR as I used to. With the holidays, though, I've had an opportunity to catch up a bit. What I found on my return is a bit disconcerting. While there's always been an element here that refuses to reason and does little more than insult Democrats and RINOs, it seems that this mentality has taken over a large portion of our membership. I've encountered more shrill, radical nonsense in the past couple of days than I had in...

Okay, so I'm doing my nightly FReeper thing, reading new posts, visiting the threads that I've been pinged to, etc..etc. Nothing new, I've been doing this for several years now, pretty much on a daily basis. I don't start too many threads (because frankly, nobody really wants or needs my 2 cents). But tonight I've had it. I can't bite my tongue any more. I've got to vent. Why are there A LOT of Freepers who insist on commenting on topics that they have no idea what the hell they're talking about? I just got done reading the thread about...

Is there a formal definition of "blog" or "blogger". I have a rough idea what they mean. Those terms have been used a lot lately in reference to increasing sources of news and opinions on the internet. Thanks in advance

Sorry for the stupid question, but I see the words Vanity and Zot on some of the posts, and I have no idea what they mean. Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks

Anyone in Independence/Downtown KC hear and see this too? It was obviously a jet flying a low racetrack pattern right over the city.

If Jim pulls a thread, or closes it down; why is it still visible at sign on to FR? I spent about ten minutes refuting a DUmmy, and when transmitting the response, the response was, "Thread has been pulled." Oh well.....

I enjoy this forum, but lately I've noticed a troubling tendency for posters here to descend into horrible and immature name-calling. Such name-calling, and extremism without reason does nothing but harm our cause. It turns off casual lurkers and readers of this forum. It provides fodder for this forum to be demonized and non-respected elsewhere. Below I provide a few examples. I call on Freepers to stop using such terms voluntarily. If that doesn't work, I call on the moderators to warn, if not censor, posters who use such terms. I realize that Democratic Underground uses even more ridiculous terms...

Thanks for any help. This morning I was online (using dail-up) and it forze up on me. I have windows 2000. A message to “Freepers”: I invite all who participate to listen up. This is a serious message to those of you who post here. I am a christian conservative and firmly adhere to conservative values. I am a grandmother to be and I want my grandchildren to live an America like I grew up in. I realize that this is impossible now and want to make a difference. I want to keep my family safe from terrorism and safe from the liberal ideology being forced upon us. In this presidential election, I know that George Bush is the only clear...

Is it just me or is anyone else having trouble all of a sudden navigating FR? It seems the feature that lets you know when you have a reply has turned into a two-click process. This just to see what replies you have. And then it is another click to actually read the reply. It used to all be done in one click.Something has definately changed. Change always causes a bit of trouble getting used to it. But this seems to be more than that. FR navigation has been easier and far above any other forums I have seen. So...

CAMP WOLVERINE, KUWAIT -- Almost one year to the day after the first NFL-USO visit to the Middle East, a pair of NFL players touched down in Kuwait to begin a four-day tour of U.S. bases in Kuwait and Qatar. Marco Rivera of the Green Bay Packers and Brian Baldinger, who played for the Cowboys, Colts and Eagles during a 13-year career and currently works as an NFL analyst for FOX, were greeted by a wealth of warm receptions that exceeded the 110-degree heat. After checking into their Army base accommodations at Camp Wolverine, the duo set out for Camp...

Christian Leader Asks People to Help Clean Hollywood Allan Menzies, 22, of Fauldhouse, West Lothian, Scotland says he was inspired to murder his best friend and drink his blood after being visited by the evil female vampire in the R-rated Hollywood horror movie QUEEN OF THE DAMNED. The movie was adapted from a book by Anne Rice, who has spent her whole career turning vampires and other demonic creatures into heroes for young people to emulate. Menzies told the High Court in Edinburgh that he killed Thomas McKendrick in the hope of drinking his blood and becoming immortal after watching...

With American corporations under increasing pressure to cut costs and build global supply networks, senior IBM officials told their corporate colleagues around the world in a recorded conference call that IBM needed to accelerate its efforts to move white-collar, often high-paying, jobs overseas, even though that might create a backlash among politicians and its own employees. During the call, IBM's top employee-relations executives said 3 million service jobs were expected to shift to foreign workers by 2015 and that IBM should move some of its jobs now done in the United States, including software design jobs, to India and other...

Secret of the Expanding Universe Discovered! "Whoda thunk it?" - Stephen Hawking "Doh!" - Homer Simpson In a stunning setback to proponents of the GEE theory, Professor Talleyman Ho of Eastern Ersatz University announced today that the mystery of the expansion of the universe was explained by Variable Integrated Asymmetric Gravitational Rebound Anomalies (VIAGRA). According to Ho, known as "Big Ho" for unknown reasons, VIAGRA explains the sudden expansion associated with the observation of heavenly bodies. "It fits perfectly with the big bang theory," Ho said, "and it can be verified in laboratory experiments!" Ho noted that the attraction of...

The Free Republic 3rd quarter FReepathon is underway! Howdy everyone. Time to get rolling again on raising the funds necessary to keep FR on the air. We've accomplished quite a bit in the last few years on FR, but there is much more work to be done. FReeper activism was an important factor in Clinton's impeachment effort as well as helping to block Al Gore's attempted theft of the White House. And more recently, FReepers organized and supported hundreds of rallies in cities all across the nation countering the peaceniks and rallying public support for our President and our...

"We distort. Agitproperties.com in Austin, Texas, sells "Faux News Channel" T-shirts that mock the Fox logo with the slogan "We distort. You comply." The company is an equal-opportunity network mocker -- it also sells "Pentagon News Network" T-shirts parodying the CNN logo....

The little web site that has Fox News fumingLegal threat over spoof T-shirts rouses $ support By Jim Jazwiecki As a TV news operation, Fox News Channel prides itself on the give and take it offers viewers. But that can't be said for its legal department when the cable news network is the subject of some of the jabbing its on-air talents relish in. Recently, the people behind Agitproperties.com, an Austin, Tex.-based activist web site, received a letter from Fox lawyers insisting that the site stop selling T-shirts making fun of the News Corp.-owned channel. One shirt reads “Faux News:...

Tallahassee - The War began silently this morning at around 2:00 AM EST. Complaints to Internet Service providers are up, and it's all because of a handful of people who have nothing better to do than attempt to destroy our normal way of life. The Computer Dudes in Tallahassee are in a bit of a tizzy this afternoon. While preparing for the launch of their new Web Communications Tool, they were caught off guard early this morning by what seems to be an cyber attack. "This is a serious attack, and these hackers are just practicing today. It's going to...

Worm? Trojan? Attack tool? Network administrators and security experts continue to search for the cause of an increasing amount of odd data that has been detected on the Internet. Security software firm Internet Security Systems (ISS) on Thursday declared victory, saying that a new hacker tool that scans for paths into public networks was responsible. But many other security professionals--including those at Intrusec, the company that originally tracked down the hard-to-find code--believe that ISS jumped the gun. The real culprit likely is still out there, said David J. Meltzer, founder and chief technology officer of Roswell, Ga.-based Intrusec. "It is...

So we had to hear the BBC decided to try a little poll. What the world thinks of AMERICA. Here's a hint: WE DON'T CARE! The BBC is anti-American and Anti-British. WASHINGTON (AP) - The chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee said Tuesday he favors developing new technology to remotely destroy the computers of people who illegally download music from the Internet. The surprise remarks by Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, during a hearing on copyright abuses represent a dramatic escalation in the frustrating battle by industry executives and lawmakers in Washington against illegal music downloads. During a discussion on methods to frustrate computer users who illegally exchange music and movie files over the Internet, Hatch asked technology executives about ways to damage computers involved in such file trading. Legal experts have...
