  • Holiday Treat: Impromptu A Cappella ‘God Bless the USA’ by Army Chorus and Lee Greenwood

    07/05/2015 11:59:12 PM PDT · by Semper Mark · 8 replies ^ | July 4, 2015 | Brent Baker
Lee Greenwood sang his iconic “God Bless the USA” between periods of the NHL’s 2015 “Winter Classic” outdoor game in Washington, DC on New Year’s Day, but the real treat came off-stage in a concourse at Nationals Park. Fortunately, it was recorded on a smart phone, so you can enjoy it this Independence Day. Gabrielle Dube, an intern for the event, posted it with this description: “After Lee Greenwood’s performance during the intermission, he met with the Military Choir to take pictures and it sparked an impromptu a cappella version of ‘God Bless the USA.’ Amazing!”

The 4th of July must be celebrated with a bit of patriotic music, right? But we can do better than the 1812 Overture or John Philip Sousa: Let's watch alligators singing patriotic music! This video comes to us from reptile expert and conservationist Jim Nesci. It features Nesci's gators bellowing along to country artist Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA." We just had to call Nesci and ask: How did you train the alligators to do that? Turns out, the gators just did it on their own. Here's the back story to the video: "I happened to be down in...

A controversial Coney Island principal has pulled the plug on patriotism. Her refusal to let students sing “God Bless the USA” at their graduation has sparked fireworks at a school filled with proud immigrants. Greta Hawkins, principal of PS 90, the Edna Cohen School, won’t allow kindergartners to belt out the beloved Lee Greenwood ballad, also known as “Proud to be an American,” at their moving-up ceremony. ...snip... She told the teachers to drop the song from the program. “We don’t want to offend other cultures,” they quoted her as explaining. ...snip... The DOE reprimanded her in 2010 after teachers...

BELLINGHAM (CBS) – A presentation at an elementary school in Bellingham will go on next week following a controversy in which the words of a patriotic song were changed. Students at Stall Brook Elementary are doing a project on the 50 states and they planned to sing two songs at an assembly April 12. One was to be a tune about the states, and the other was the popular 1984 Lee Greenwood song “God Bless The USA.” But someone changed the chorus of Greenwood’s song to “We love the USA” for the assembly. That didn’t go over well with parents,...

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT RUSH: At a school in Massachusetts, the school is the Stall Brook Elementary school in Bellingham. They just decided -- nobody had complained, they just decided -- to take the word "God" out of Lee Greenwood's song "God Bless the USA." The idea was, it might offend somebody, and so before anybody's offended, we're going to take the word out. And we're just gonna replace it with "We all love the USA." Instead of "God Bless the USA." But when they did that, some parents applauded it. Other parents said, "What are you doing?" So to avoid controversy,...

This is a question that some of the state’s residents may be asking after the Stall Brook Elementary School in Bellingham removed the word “God” from Lee Greenwood’s, “God Bless the U.S.A.” The song was reportedly changed to, “We love the U.S.A.” Then, following outrage, the school pulled the song all together from a fourth-grade assembly.

Schultz said, “Back in the Bush administration when every time we invaded an oil rich country or anytime there was any kind of confrontation, we were subjected to, ad nauseam I might add, ‘God bless the USA.’ That Lee Greenwood song.”

While serving as an Air Force officer in Japan 20 years ago, I had the privilege of seeing Lee Greenwood perform his hit song, “God Bless the USA,” at Kadena Air Base on the island of Okinawa. Though I will always appreciate the original lyrics to the song, I recently concluded that they needed an update to coincide with the Tea Party Movement occupying such a large space on the political landscape. Below are the updated lyrics:

It's fitting that Sean Hannity's fourth annual Freedom Concert tomorrow will be held once again at Six Flags Great Adventure amusement park in Jackson, N.J. Hannity has had a great adventure of his own the past few years. His afternoon radio show on WABC (770 AM) is syndicated to more than 500 stations, and his 12 million-15 million weekly listeners put him behind only Rush Limbaugh. But numbers are only part of the story. Between the radio and his evening "Hannity and Colmes" on the Fox News Channel, the 44-year-old Hannity has risen above a crowded pack to become one...

Lee Greenwood's inspiring Gulf War anthem prompts questions about 'legality of lyrics' ''God Bless the U.S.A.,'' a patriotic anthem made popular by singer Lee Greenwood during the 1991 Gulf War, ignited a war of words between some parents and officials when it was learned an upcoming school performance would substitute the words ''I love'' for 'God bless.'' The show's directors decided to substitute ''I love the U.S.A.'' during rehearsals for the performance at Pacifica High School in Ventura County, California, when someone on the committee suggested the word ''God'' might be a ''problem.'' When angry parents found out about the...
