Thanks to the many Freepers who contributed!
Homeland Security's Muslim advisors contradicted new terror lexicon

American Thinker publishes today Joseph Myers' critical assessment of Homeland Security's new terror lexicon, "Strategic Collapse in the War on Terror", as it published my own analysis, "Flying Blind in the War on Terror", last week. This new lexicon adopted by both Homeland Security and the State Department's Counterterrorism Communications Center, directs government employees to cease using the terms "jihad", "jihadist", and "mujahedeen" to describe Islamic terrorists. The memos were publicly released by Steve Emerson of the Investigative Project on Friday, but inquiries by Emerson about which Muslim leaders exactly advised Homeland Security chief Michael Chertoff on this widely criticized...

J.K. Rowling, Lexicon and Oz (Orson Scott Card Smackdown!)

Can you believe that J.K. Rowling is suing a small publisher because she claims their 10,000-copy edition of The Harry Potter Lexicon, a book about Rowling's hugely successful novel series, is just a "rearrangement" of her own material. Rowling "feels like her words were stolen," said lawyer Dan Shallman. Well, heck, I feel like the plot of my novel Ender's Game was stolen by J.K. Rowling. A young kid growing up in an oppressive family situation suddenly learns that he is one of a special class of children with special abilities, who are to be educated in a remote training...

Vanity ---- Listing of Common Phrases Used on Free Republic

I was trying to think of all the common phrases that are posted on virtually every thread. I am not sure if there is even a listing on here. Maybe they could be listed here. Here are some examples: We are doomed!!! It's Bush's Fault! It's Global Warming. Search is your friend. (I think this is one)

We've received many requests from freepers requesting that other freepers not post to them. There are several problems with this. 1. It's impossible for us to enforce.2. We don't have the time to enforce these requests.3. We don't have the software to keep track of these requests.4. Thick skin helps.5. Ignore the poster, if you don't reply, they won't reply. Free Republic does not need a bozo filter, bozo filters are for wimps. Final note: Trolls, troublemakers, disruptors, forum pests, malcontents, RINOs, liberals, stalkers, et al, would continue posting to (harassing) someone after being asked to stop. Conservative FReepers would...

What Makes a FReeper a FReeper?

I often wondered what exactly makes a FReeper a FReeper? Is it the simple act of reading articles on FR? Do you have to post articles or replies? To call yourself a FReeper do you need to engage in effective activism like writing letters to politicians, getting out in the street to carry signs, or, is being a FReeper an attitude. If so, what attitude is that? Knock yourself out.

Sheryl Crow, the 'one square wonder' has single handedly wiped the way clear the future of our communication. For instance; when things are getting shakey at work you should state that if everyone doesn't work together the "Crow's really gonna hit the fan." When someone startles you, tell them you nearly "Crowed your pants." Suppose you are playing poker.
I'm reading an astonishing number of comments on Free Republic these days by posters who have joined the ranks of the anti-American left in calling for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq. Some claim to have military experience, some claim to be patriotic Americans and some claim to be smarter than the rest. These posters are joining the Murtha-Rangel-McDermott treason caucus. Oh, they say they love the troops, but their decision to abandon them in the field speaks otherwise.Three years ago, the United States led an international coalition to rid the world of one of the worst regimes on the planet.
Breaking News Abuse

There are way too many non-breaking news stories being placed in breaking news. It's gotten so bad, this is in breaking news. Please, if the story has been posted once in breaking news, it doesn't belong there again unless it's a critical update. Also, don't abuse topics. A story does not need to be posted in every single topic. It does not generate more hits to your thread. Michael Jackson, Kobe Bryant, Scott Peterson, etc, are not breaking news, unless convicted. This is tabloid journalism, we are a conservative forum. Related threads can be found here.Posting Guidelines

Vanity On Duplicate Threads

This is just a reminder that before one posts an article, one should check to see if the article has been previously posted in order to avoid duplication. Duplication causes several problems. Just like the old Monty Python skit about spam, if the same thing is posted over and over, it can drown out other valid posts. It needlessly consumes system resources. It fragments discussion. In general, moderators will pull duplicate postings when we are alerted to them or when we notice them. This has the benefit of eliminating the "spam" effect and it helps keep discussion from being fragmented....
