  • Ready, aim, misfire: Liberals OK with guns if conservatives are the target

A left-wing freebie newspaper in Toronto, called NOW magazine, has published a photoshopped picture of the conservative mayor, Rob Ford, pointing a gun to his head. This from a magazine that claims to be against guns and gun violence. NOW magazine is unimportant to most people, but there is an important point buried amidst its smut: Liberals don’t mind promiscuous suggestions of gun crime, if it’s someone they hate in the crosshairs. It’s like when the movie, Death of a President, came to the Toronto International Film Festival. It wasn’t about a historical assassination. It was a Hollywood liberal fantasy...

Hypocrisy knows no bounds on the airwaves of National Public Radio, as their Minnesota-based star Garrison Keillor led off his latest edition of “A Prairie Home Companion” by mocking the GOP frontrunners as “the Mormon running against the polygamist.” This is a rich dig coming from Keillor, since he has been married three times – just as many times as Newt Gingrich. This was within three minutes of the program starting, just a little partisan liberal boilerplate before the folksy singers get started. Keillor mocked conservatives like Romney and Gingrich for believing "the solution to our current dilemma is to...

We heard a lot on Tuesday night from President Obama about the wealthy paying their “fair share” in his State of the Union speech. (Well, you heard it a lot; I read the speech and then commenced to have a life on Tuesday night.) Obama made half a dozen references to fairness in relation to taxes in the address, including taking a shot at Congress: But in return, we need to change our tax code so that people like me, and an awful lot of members of Congress, pay our fair share of taxes. Just like with charity, perhaps fairness...

People earning over $1 million per year should pay an effective tax rate of no less than 30 percent, President Obama said in his State of the Union address Tuesday night. The president laid down one of his most political markers of the annual policy speech by crafting what he called the "Buffett Rule," named after the famous billionaire investor. "Tax reform should follow the Buffett rule: If you make more than $1 million a year, you should not pay less than 30 percent in taxes," Obama said.

As hype around the general election ramps up, it looks like progressives again will do anything to hold on to power and advance their agenda. Events this week gave us a peek behind the curtain into the mind of the honest, “tolerant” class and exposed how they work. Let’s take a look. The Shell Game One thing about political lefties: They assume the general public is even dumber than their ideas. Surveys repeatedly show Americans are not liberal, that the word evokes a negative reaction from a large percentage of people. So what do they do? They start calling themselves...

Republicans outraged over the recess appointments of Richard Cordray and three NLRB commissioners argue that the pro forma Senate sessions every three days means that the Senate has not recessed at all. The Congressional Research Service notes that no President in the 20 years prior to Barack Obama’s actions in the past two weeks has attempted a recess appointment unless Congress has been out of session more than nine days. Today, to no one’s great shock, Obama’s own Department of Justice says that these arguments aren’t good enough to stop the President from the exercise of his constitutional power: President...

My Sunday column addressed the Obama “recess appointments.” I use quotes for the term, because the Senate was not in recess, according to its own rules. The New York Times editorialized in favor of the president’s move, while it denounced the GOP’s “use any and all tactics to thwart the bureau and the Dodd-Frank reform law that created it.” Be it noted, these GOP tactics were instituted under Democrat Harry’s Reid’s leadership in an announced effort to thwart any recess appointments under George W. Bush. Here is a 2008 editorial in which The New York Times endorsed those very same tactics,...

Election season is upon us and political opponents seem willing to do anything to get the upper hand. When is the last time you heard a liberal describe himself as a "liberal"? It’s probably been a long time. These days, those on the left are more likely to call themselves "progressives." Writing in The New York Times, Columbia University economist Jeffrey Sachs said there have been two progressive eras — one in the early 20th century and the second under Franklin Roosevelt. He called on modern liberals to usher in a third era. But what exactly is "progressivism"? To many people, the term "Progressive Era" evokes fond caricatures of Teddy Roosevelt and such reforms as safe food, the...

Nancy Pelosi's just the latest example. The former House speaker allegedly gamed financial reforms to boost her personal stock portfolio. Most of these people argue for trials for terrorists (OBL never got one), international coalitions (US went alone), adherence to international law (US didn't even notify Pakistan it was going to invade it even though it is a sovereign nation) and non-violence? Where are all the pissed off Leftists? If anything this shows the Leftist view of the world is a massive failure.

Krauthammer: It's Funny to Hear Liberals Talk About How Awful it is to Delegitimize a President After What They Did to Bush Charles Krauthammer on Friday perfectly elucidated the media's hypocrisy concerning their avid defense of Barack Obama against attacks from Donald Trump and the birthers. "I think it's somewhat amusing to hear people on the left talking about how awful it is to delegitimize a president when they spent half a decade saying that George Bush stole the election"
  • Afghan mob tore open bunker to kill foreign UN staff, envoy says

KABUL (Reuters) – An angry mob that killed seven foreign UN staff in north Afghanistan ripped out the door of a bunker where several had taken shelter, and slit the throat of one man who survived a bullet, the top UN envoy in the country said on Saturday. Staffan de Mistura promised that the United Nations would stay in Afghanistan after the vicious assault, the deadliest it has faced in Afghanistan, but would have to reconsider security, particularly guarantees from Afghan forces. He also warned that the Afghan government need to do more to prevent attacks like this if it...
  • Springsteen writes Letter to the Editor

Springsteen writes Letter to the Editor NEPTUNE, N.J. (AP) — Bruce Springsteen has written a Letter to the Editor to what he calls his hometown newspaper. Springsteen on Thursday thanked the Asbury Park Press for a March 27 article about how anti-poverty groups in New Jersey are facing an uphill battle as Gov. Chris Christie seeks to cut spending and property taxes. Springsteen writes that the "article shows that the cuts are eating away at the lower edges of the middle class, not just those already classified as in poverty." Springsteen says it will "likely to contin ue to get...
  • 7 Questions For Liberals About Obama's Libyan War

It seems like it was just yesterday when we had an "imperialist warmonger" in the White House who was going to be replaced by a peace-loving Democrat who promised "hope" and "change" instead. It's funny how that worked out, isn't it? We still have troops in Iraq, we've escalated the war in Afghanistan, and now we're bombing everything that moves in Libya. Yet, the same liberals who were protesting in the streets and calling George Bush a war criminal have mostly been meek and quiet about the fact that the President they supported has been following in George Bush's footsteps....

US Representative Michael E. Capuano, who decried violent political rhetoric after last month’s fatal shooting rampage in Tucson, said today he regrets urging union workers at a rally in Boston on Tuesday to “get a little bloody.” “I strongly believe in standing up for worker rights and my passion for preserving those rights may have gotten the best of me yesterday in an unscripted speech,” the Somerville Democrat said in a statement released this afternoon. “I wish I had used different language to express my passion and I regret my choice of words." Capuano was referring to remarks he made...

Progressive Caucus Co-Chair Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) said Wednesday that Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is acting like a “dictator.” Ellison said that Walker, a Republican, should negotiate with union workers, who have agreed to pay more for health benefits as long as they can keep collective bargaining rights. Walker is “basically taking on the position of a dictator,” he told reporters. “Because he says he won’t negotiate. That is something that is not in the spirit of a public servant, who just won’t even talk. He is putting himself in a position of being extreme, radical and reckless. And he’s...
  • Lies about tea party come true in Wisconsin

The public-sector union protests continue in Wisconsin and other Midwestern states. James Taranto, who writes the Best of the Web Today column at, finds it “quite striking the way almost every lie the left ever told about the Tea Party has turned out to be true of the government unionists in Wisconsin and their supporters: • Extreme rhetoric. The Wisconsin Republican Party has produced what calls an “incredibly effective” video juxtaposing liberal complaints about allegedly extremist Tea Party rhetoric with unionist signs likening Gov. Walker to Hitler and other dictators. Left-wing journalists are making similar invidious comparisons: “Workers Toppled...
  • Private Property and the Ground Zero Mosque

I was watching a video on the anti-mosque rally on youtube, and I was surprised to see people in the comment section invoking “private property rights” to defend the mosque. First off it’s a bit odd for ‘these people’, broadly speaking, to be defending that. Where were they when American Renaissance meetings were shut down by “anti-racist” race terrorists? Where were they when Scientology meetups get harassed? I’m sure if you looked you could find many other examples. If they don’t want to defend “private property”, fine. But this selective invocation of principles is hypocrisy. Second off, if you support...

Yes, I know how to post an active link. No, I'm not going to link to this filth. I don't think linking to DU is allowed here anyway. If you really want to look - and you really don't need to because the title is enough - google this title and the link will come up: Limbaugh struck deaf. Beck struck blind. When Palin loses her voice, it'll be a trifecta!
