  • Trump and Moore wins might push Chris McDaniel toward another run for Senate in Mississippi

Chris McDaniel is keeping a close eye on the U.S. Senate race in neighboring Alabama as he mulls whether to mount his own Trump-style bid to challenge Sen. Roger F. Wicker in the Republican primary in Mississippi next year. Since then, Donald Trump’s stunning presidential victory and Alabama Republican Roy Moore’s bid for a Senate seat have told Mr. McDaniel that the Washington establishment is still missing what the voters are saying. “Naturally, the people of Mississippi, the people of Alabama, we have never been extraordinarily trustful of D.C., but now we look at it almost with a degree of...

Chris McDaniel may have refused to concede the Mississippi Senate primary without a challenge, but Sen. Ted Cruz appears to be moving on after the Tea Party suffered primary defeats last night. (SNIP) The Texas Senator stated that although it was clear that thousands of Democrats voted in the primary, it was all part of the political battle.

The Republicans Who Fought Chris McDaniel in Mississippi, Tried to Use Mike Huckabee Against Ted Cruz This is a fascinating article that shows just how much contempt for Ted Cruz the Republican Establishment has. They absolutely hate the guy.In fact, Henry Barbour, who helped scuttle conservatives in Mississippi in the race between Chris McDaniel and Thad Cochran, tried to raise money for a Mike Huckabee supporting super PAC for the sole purpose of attacking Ted Cruz. Mr. Barbour was so exasperated by the intra-establishment combat that this month he sought to raise money for the super PAC supporting Mike Huckabee...

Tupelo, Mississippi (CNN)—Ted Cruz, who has become one of the conservative movement's most sought-after endorsements, declined to say Tuesday whether he would bestow these nods in Republican primaries if he was elected president. Campaigning here alongside Chris McDaniel, who lost a nasty runoff in one of the tightest tea party-versus-establishment primaries of 2014, Cruz told CNN in an interview that it was premature to say whether he would rule out endorsements from the White House, something President Barack Obama has done only rarely. "We'll cross that bridge when we come to it," Cruz said on his campaign bus in Tennessee....

With the big Fox News debate tonight, and as we begin to pick our favored candidates for the upcoming presidential campaign, it is noteworthy to point out that, as we announced yesterday, Senator Ted Cruz will be coming to Mississippi next week to campaign and Senator McDaniel will be with him, and that Donald Trump threw his support behind Senator McDaniel last year against Thad Cochran.(TWEET-AT-LINK)

Ted Cruz will campaign next week with Chris McDaniel, the insurgent conservative who mounted a high profile but ultimately unsuccessful primary challenge to Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran last year. Cruz, the Texas senator and GOP presidential candidate, is planning a weeklong swing through the South. While in Mississippi on Tuesday, he’s set to stop in the northern cities of Tupelo and Olive Branch, and McDaniel is expected to accompany him during the trip and ride on Cruz’s campaign bus, Cruz spokeswoman Catherine Frazier confirmed. McDaniel initially edged Cochran in last summer’s primary election but fell just short of the majority...

One evening several years ago, John Mary was up late reading a local blog when he came across a comment from a man who said he lived in Gulfport, Mississippi. The commenter had been watching his kid mow a relative’s lawn, he wrote, when a couple approached the boy and asked if he could cut their grass sometime. The commenter recognized the man. It was Senator Thad Cochran, he wrote, and the woman with him sure as hell wasn’t his wife. The gossip stuck with Mary, a 62-year-old from Hattiesburg, about 70 miles north of Gulfport. But he didn’t think...

A baker's dozen — twelve plus one — is the number of candidates seeking to fill the seat of the late U.S. Rep. Alan Nunnelee who died of brain cancer in February. The special election to fill Nunnelee's seat is May 12, less than a month away and the jockeying has begun to court votes in DeSoto County, Mississippi's fastest growing county and a population that makes up nearly one-fourth or 23 percent of all voters in the First Congressional District. The list of candidates, in alphabetical order, is as follows: Boyce Adams, Sam Adcock, Nancy Collins, Edward Holliday, Starner...

I’ve long been a fan of the adage that the worst thing you can give someone is exactly what they’ve asked for. In the last few days, there has been a minor storm brewing over SB 2161 – the bill in Mississippi designed to address Common Core. The bill passed with overwhelming support in the Mississippi Legislature in an election year. Last week, Governor Phil Bryant had some misgivings about the bill and signaled that he might (might) veto. Wingnut nation piled on both on blogs and in closed door Facebook chat rooms urging him to do that. (SNIP) Of...

Last Tuesday Vice President Joe Biden swore in Senator Thad Cochran for a 7th term. Upon seeing his old friend from his decades in the US Senate, Biden enthusiastically remarked, “Thaddeus!6374807_G Best guy in the US Senate right here. I can say that now because it can’t hurt him.” How wonderful! This is yet another high-profile Democrat who has admiration for Thad Cochran. Remember, it was Harry Reid who praised Cochran on the Senate floor as a “wonderful man.” It is a fair question that we have asked here at MCD for more than a year: Why do Democrats love...
  • What about 2015? Talk already abounds about next election season (MS: Cochran & Barbour's puppets)

With a long statewide election season just complete, another – the one with the biggest ballot of them all – looms on the horizon in 2015. And while most state government incumbents elected statewide have confirmed they’ll be running for re-election to their current offices, some could have challengers – from outside or possibly inside their own party. (SNIP) Rumors have abounded for some time about various Republicans challenging Reeves, who is expected to seek re-election. The talk now is centered around second-term Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann as a potential challenger to Reeves. When asked about Hosemann’s election plans,...

Take responsibility for however you decide to mark your ballot, but don’t lay the results at God’s feet when you had a deliberate choice to make, be it for right or wrong Observing the chaotic politics surrounding practically every issue on and off the ballot is one of the advantages of a missionary’s life being posted in sundry locales around this nation. And it is Mississippi that has collared me for more than a year – a state of endless hospitality, conservative ethics and Southern tenacity. In the face of injustice, Mississippians will stand their ground and rightfully so. This...

Laurel, MS -- Republican Chris McDaniel issued a statement today in the wake of the Supreme Court's dismissal of his motion to appeal. "Republicans in Mississippi are still left wanting for justice after June's Republican primary was decided by more than 40,000 Democrats," McDaniel said. "Worse yet, the courts refused even to hear our challenge," McDaniel said. "When we launched this campaign over a year ago, we committed to fight to the very end, and many conservatives showed a great deal of courage in standing up with us," he continued. "And the fight to save our republic is only just...

In recent months, hacks for the establishment have continued their assault on Chris McDaniel and his supporters, especially ridiculing the new labels “McGOP” and “McDaniel Republicans” that have begun making rounds on social media. The reason for the distinctive tags is quite simple really: It separates us from them, the true conservatives from the establishment, those of us who hold tight to conservative principles and those who clearly do not, although they would like us to believe they do. And most importantly, it separates those of us who believe in upholding the original purity of the Constitution from those who...

Republicans are scrambling to save a seat that they thought was in the bag. Republican chances to win control of the Senate in the 2014 midterms, requiring a pickup of six seats, have taken a blow. Kansas, a state no one considered anything other than a safe hold for the party a few months ago, now appears to be slipping away. After a contentious primary resulting in a victory for the 78-year incumbent Pat Roberts over tea party challenger Milton Wolf, things have gone steadily south for Roberts. Wolf refused to close ranks and endorse Roberts. A self-funded independent, 45-year-old...

Cochran Attempt to Strike Hosemann's Opinion on 20 Day Deadline Fails Thad Cochran's attorneys failed in their effort to keep the Secretary of State’s statements on Republican Chris McDaniel’s appeal out of the record yesterday. Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann has at least twice previously stated to the Clarion-Ledger that there was no deadline for filing a challenge for a statewide primary election. Attorneys for Cochran filed a motion to strike Hosemann's statements from the record in the McDaniel appeal to the Mississippi Supreme Court. Judge Hollis McGehee heard arguments on the Motion in Mendenhall on Monday.
