(CNSNews.com) - The House Ways and Means Committee wants to know when the White House first knew that the Internal Revenue Service was targeting groups for heightened scrutiny for their political views, including groups that used the words "tea party" or "patriot" in their applications for tax exempt status, or that sought to educate people about the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights. The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration has provided a timeline to congressional staff that indicates that in the 2010 election year the Internal Revenue Service instructed officials in its "Determinations Unit" to "be on the lookout...

This National Election was one battle that was lost by those who seek to Conserve what Good is left of America. At best, this loss will help us in the future to avoid the obvious mistakes made in the past. There will be other battles in the future, and our goal will be to win more of those battles than we tie or lose. The purpose of our future battles is to win the WAR, just as Breitbart had warned us. On the positive side we need to list what the problems are. On the negative side we need to...

My name is Robert Rector. I am a Senior Research Fellow at The Heritage Foundation. The views I express in this testimony are my own, and should not be construed as representing any official position of The Heritage Foundation. Summary The governmental safety net has three basic components: 1) Social Security and Medicare for the elderly; 2) unemployment insurance and worker’s compensation; and 3) anti-poverty or means-tested welfare programs. My testimony will deal with the means-tested welfare system, which could also be called comprehensive assistance to the poor. The means-tested welfare system consists of 79 federal programs providing cash, food,...

The following picture appeared on the front page of the Index Journal which is the newspaper for Abbeville, Greenwood, Laurens, McCormick and Saluda Counties here in South Carolina. Clearly a sign of the times when Spanish has to be posted on signs voting precints in the area. I wonder how many Hispanics voted for McCain knowing he will allow them to stay and bring in their relatives?

High levels of cancer-causing benzene and the suspected carcinogen MTBE have been found in the ground water beneath a Citgo gas station in Monrovia, the Frederick County Health Department said Tuesday. Both chemicals are gasoline additives. There is no indication that the contamination has migrated offsite, the health department said. All property owners within a half-mile of Green Valley Citgo will be notified of the sampling results, the agency said. The health department said benzene, a known carcinogen, was detected at a level of 66 parts per billion, or about 13 times the federal Environmental Protection Agency's maximum contaminant level of...

Rep. accused of trying to bribe NigerianBy STEPHEN MANNING, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 28 minutes ago GREENBELT, Md. - Rep. William Jefferson called the package he allegedly delivered at midnight to the suburban Maryland home of Nigeria's vice president "African art." Authorities say the "art" was meant to be cash — lots of it. Court documents filed in the bribery probe of the Louisiana Democrat allege that Jefferson told an FBI informant he took the "art," which authorities believe was code for $100,000 in $100 bills, to the Potomac home of Atiku Abubakar on July 31. The money was...

5/9/2006 - BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan (AFPN) -- Olga finished school 70 years ago. After graduating, she became a teacher of Russian, German and finally mathematics for more than 30 years. She has so much to share about that time, but today, she has fewer and fewer people to hear her stories. Brothers and sisters, husbands and children have passed or moved too far away to visit. That’s why lunch with the American Airmen is such a treat, said Tech. Sgt. Victoria Querido. On May 4, Sergeant Querido led her final luncheon trip of the rotation, with a dozen Airmen from the...

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (AP) -- Country radio may be ready to make nice with the Dixie Chicks. The grudge dates back to 2003 when many country stations stopped playing the popular trio after lead singer Natalie Maines criticized President Bush. But the Chicks' new single, "Not Ready to Make Nice," is now in rotation in several major markets, pushing it to No. 36 on Billboard's country singles chart after its first full week of airplay. Other stations, however, have been slower to embrace it. "I think a lot of people are in a wait-and-see mode," said Wade Jessen, director of Billboard's...

Every time I bring up the Holocaust, the same thing happens. Some of the people want Hitler's genocide to be the archetype of a people's suffering, denying others their right to bring similar atrocities to light. Some want to deny it (like current Iranian President Ahmadinejad). Some want to straddle the line or apologize: "There would have been no Hitler if not for the reparation payments put upon Germany after World War I." What are we to do, create a chart ranking peoples' suffering: "mine was worse than yours?" These were all horrors. Calling one a genocide while not allowing...

SAN DIEGO, Jan. 11, 2006 – The days of the weekend warrior are over, a top defense official said here yesterday. Thomas F. KABUL, Afghanistan, Jan. 10, 2006 – A new piece of communications equipment is giving Afghan National Army units the capability to stay connected with each other and their operations centers regardless of the distance between them or the types of radios used. The Advanced Control Unit-Tactical, or ACU-T, is designed to serve as a bridge between divergent communications systems to allow communications between ANA units with incompatible radio systems. Produced by Raytheon, the unit is the newest addition to the ANA's communications inventory. Before the ACU-T, most ANA units used either VHF radios that have a maximum range of 40...

1/4/2006 - SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- An army marches on it stomach. Napoleon Bonaparte said, and believed, that in 1812. Truth is he might have been thinking more about the importance of a good supply line. But a visit to a military camp -- then or now -- would reveal that good eats and tasty treats are just as important to the troops. Get it wrong, and the troops are not happy. The Airmen of the 379th Expeditionary Services Squadron’s food service flight know that. It’s why they strives to provide the best variety of food -- meats, seafood, vegetables,...

Big brain means small testes, finds bat study 12:16 07 December 2005 NewScientist.com news service Gaia Vince Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences The brainier male bats are, the smaller their testicles, according to a new study. Researchers suggest the correlation exists because both organs require a lot of energy to grow and maintain, leading individual species to find the optimum balance. The analysis of 334 species of bat found that in species where the females were promiscuous, the males had evolved larger testes but had relatively small brains. In species, where the females were monogamous, the situation...

WASHINGTON, Sept. 15, 2005 – Because "democracy means failure for the insurgency" in Iraq, terrorists are employing violence across Iraq in an effort to derail the democratic process, a senior military Multinational Force Iraq spokesman told reporters today during a Baghdad news conference. Terrorists in Iraq are known to ratchet up their activities, like the recent spate of deadly car bombings in Baghdad, when specific progress is being made in remaking Iraq into a free and democratic nation, Army Maj. Gen. Rick Lynch explained. "These spikes of violence are predictable around the times that highlight progress towards democracy," Lynch said....

Sacramento -- The Democratic Party's decision to file a wide-ranging ethics complaint against Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger this week probably signaled the end to any chance of a bipartisan compromise on the fate of the November ballot initiatives. The fact that party Chair Art Torres signed the complaint filed with the Fair Political Practices Commission, not some state senator or Assembly member, shows where the decision was made, said Bruce Cain, a political science professor at UC Berkeley. "That tells you that this is all part of an effort to make sure Arnold Schwarzenegger has a very long day on Nov....

The University of Colorado is....hearing from Indian country [http://www.indiancountry.com] scholars whose previous protests against Churchill's appointment fell on deaf ears. The three-person panel reviewing Churchill's work is receiving studies that accuse him of fabricating evidence for his academic writing and even of plagiarism. At least one member of the UC faculty has also questioned why the University hired and promoted Churchill in the first place... Charges such as these will be grist for the University of Colorado review mill over the next 30 days. As DiStefano described it at the tumultuous Board of Regents meeting, it would consider two questions:...

If you think Ward Churchill is controversial in his academic setting, you should see how divisive a force he is in the Indian world. The University of Colorado professor, who has set off a firestorm with the publicizing of his 3-year-old essay rationalizing the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, has been a lightning rod for years among those involved in American Indian arts, academics and activism. He simultaneously inspires great admiration and loathing. "He is horribly divisive, and he is a thug," said Suzan Shown Harjo, president of the Morningstar Institute in Washington, a national American Indian rights organization. "He's gone...

Means, Thune not on the outs By Denise Ross, Journal Staff Writer PINE RIDGE -- Longtime American Indian activist Russell Means and Republican U.S. Senate candidate John Thune are once again partners on the campaign trail. After endorsing Thune and making campaign appearances with him, Means blasted Thune's campaign in July for not taking his advice to heart. "I tried to help the Republicans. They didn't want my help," Means said two months ago. Means had said he could guarantee Thune 4,000 new Indian votes in his tight race against Sen. Tom Daschle, D-S.D., if the Republican followed his advice....

INTELLIGENT INTELLIGENCE by Dennis E. Fishel RE: "Bush paves rough patches with fear" by Marianne Means, August 12, 2004 Having once attempted to help their hero through the quagmire created by his efforts to redefine the word "is", lefties like Marianne Means have now decided to educate us all on the meaning of a much larger and more complex word, "intelligence". As we approach the third anniversary of what will forever be known as simply "9/11", Ms. Means and, to be fair, a whole laundry list of others suffering from severe myopia, apparently feel there's no rationale for issuing alarms...

Coalition Educates on PSM While PSM Obfuscates By Andrew L. Jaffee, November 7, 2003 Home Search Forum Terms A broad coalition of conscientious, peace-loving individuals and organizations has done great work in exposing the Palestine Solidarity Movement (PSM) and International Solidarity Movements (ISM) for what they are: racist, hateful terrorism supporters and enablers. Yesterday, Representative Dixie Allen (Democrat - Dayton), Rabbi Hillel Fox of Congregation Beth Jacob, Dayton, and myself, publisher of netWMD.com, LLC, held a press conference at Ohio's State House at 4 PM, trying to draw public attention to the PSM conference at OSU. We then presented a petition with...

Anti-Semitism in Solidarity Movement Conference at Ohio State By Diana Appelbaum, Guest Columnist, October 27, 2003 Home Search Forum Terms A plan to eliminate a population of five million Jews, by murdering some and, presumably, so terrifying the rest that they flee in fear of their lives, is properly called anti-Semitic. But what if a Jew proposes such a plan? And not an apostate Jew. What if a professing Jew proposes such a plan? Is it still anti-Semitic? This is neither an historical nor a hypothetical question. The International Solidarity Movement, its American, student affiliate the Palestinian Solidarity Movement,...

It started with the mind-numbing reading of a 200-page pension overhaul bill, erupted into a remarkably bitter name-calling match between House Republicans and Democrats, and ended with a GOP lawmaker summoning Capitol Police to evict an outraged gaggle of Democratic colleagues from a congressional library. Ultimately, nobody was assaulted or arrested. But the brouhaha that exploded yesterday morning in the Ways and Means Committee marked the most bitterly partisan spat thus far in the 108th Congress, a place already known for unusually angry relations between the Republican majority and the Democratic minority, especially in the House. The Longworth building showdown...

The First Bush Space Policy Frank Sietzen, Jr. Tuesday, May 13, 2003 Today's action puts the first Bush administration 'stamp' on U.S. Space Policy, and while it is only the first policy action in an anticipated series, it has a clearly identifiable cast to its contents. The new space remote sensing policy released today by the National Security Council has a decidedly free market, conservative slant as it seeks to craft a new cooperative framework between U.S. federal users of space photography and the fledgling industry that is struggling to offer such services. Commercial sources of high resolution images...

The jihad kindergartens of Muslim terrorist Saudi Arabia Jihad kindergartens are not only a phenomenon of the "peaceful" PLO educational system. Satanic schools for hatred of the infidel and love of death in suicide bombings are a feature of life throughout the "peaceful" Muslim world. Even in well-to-do Islamic hell holes like "peaceful" Saudi Arabia, America's supposed ally in the laughable war on terror, Mohammed's most sophisticated modern-day followers think nothing of indoctrinating their offspring in the sweet delights of Jew-hatred and infidel-killing. One film which recently managed to reach Western airwaves gives a fair sample of Saudi Arabia's...
