  • Mika: It feels like Hillary Clinton is lying straight out (Andrea Mitchell looks devastated)

Thursday on MSNBCs Morning Joe, NBC chief Washington correspondent Andrea Mitchell reacted to a State Department Inspector General report criticizing Hillary Clinton for her use of a private email server while she was serving as President Barack Obamas secretary of state. Mitchell first dismissed the Clinton campaigns defense, comparing Clintons behavior to that of her predecessor former Secretary of State Colin Powell and then declared the report to be hard to be seen as anything but devastating. It was not allowed to not return those records before she left the State Department, Mitchell said. She violated the official records act...

On Thursday, MSNBCs Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski said that it feels like Democratic presidential candidate former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is lying straight out about her emails. Brzezinski said, Here are the things that, like over time, we remember here, her saying repeatedly it was allowed. A private server, set up in her home, by an IT guy who was given immunity, and his emails are missing. And she even joked when she was asked, and I think in a high school gym, did you wipe the server, meaning get rid of everything so no one could see...

It hasn’t been a good week for the Democrats. And despite the ongoing effort by the mainstream media to paint the Republican Party as divided and irreparably damaged by their primary process, the signs continue to emerge that Democrats are facing a much tougher task in uniting behind their incredibly unlikable and untrustworthy front-runner. The week started with a remarkable brawl convention in Nevada with blood spilled, names called and a venerable senator booed off the stage. The divisive nature of the Democrats reached a ridiculous point Tuesday afternoon with the spectacle of Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (S-VT) campaign manager promising CNN’s...

Last summer when Donald Trump announced he was running for the GOP presidential nomination, few, if any, political pundits were willing to give him a chance. Morning Joe host Mika Brzezinski, however, was willing to stick her neck out and buck conventional wisdom, saying Trump should not be underestimated and she predicted he may very well end up as the GOP nominee. That got a laugh out of Morning Joe regular Mike Barnicle, who was so certain that Trump had zero chance, he offered to buy Mika a brand-new truck if Trump won the nomination. As the months went by...

Of everyone in the MSM, Joe Scarborough has been widely seen as the most ardent Trump supporter--starting from the day Donald descended that escalator with Melania. Scarborough would argue he was merely offering dispassionate political analysis--saying that Trump's chances should be taken seriously while others were disdainfully dismissing him. But for those of us who watched Joe day in and day out during the primary season, there seemed to be something much more than green-eyeshade analysis going on. Scarborough revelled in every poll and primary result favorable to Trump. Which makes Scarborough's statement on today's Morning Joe so strange. Joe...

Morning Joe regulars know that Mika Brzezinski has made a virtual art form out of her facial expressions and body language. On today's show, Mika put on a particularly demonstrative display of horror while asserting what she sees as Ted Cruz's lack of appeal to women voters. The question on the table had been Donald Trump's surprisingly strong showing among women in yesterday's New York Republican primary. The Donald scored 59% of women voters, almost equaling the 63% of men voters he garnered. Gene Robinson was stumped to explain it. When he posited Ted Cruz as the alternative to Trump,...

What does it say about Bernie Sanders--and the Pope--that when it comes to economics, Sanders sees Pope Francis as more "radical" than he is? Appearing on today's Morning Joe, Sanders discussed the news that he has been invited to visit the Vatican. Sanders mentioned that [other than on social issues] he is a "big, big fan of the Pope." Said Sanders: "people think Bernie Sanders is radical. Uh-uh. Read what the Pope is writing." Sanders went on to describe the Pope's views on economics: "he's talking about the idolatry of money, the worship of money, the greed that's out there...

Virtually every morning, Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough vociferously reject the notion that they're in the tank for Donald Trump. And it's true that in word and print they can occasionally be critical of him. But on today's Morning Joe, Mika came up with an odd defense to the assertion that Trump often lies: "He's not just blurting out outright lies--he's kind of making people think in some ways." Um, okay. Mika's odd formulation came in response to the allegation by guest Evelyn Farkas, a former Obama Defense Department official with expertise on Russia, who has a current Politico piece...

Talk about your weak, servile interview. This was pitiful. Given the chance to interview Hillary Clinton on today's Morning Joe, Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski failed to ask a single tough question. Nothing about the email scandal. Nothing about the transcripts of her big-dollar speeches to Wall Street. Nothing about having lost seven of the last eight races to Bernie Sanders. Instead, Joe and Mika lobbed a series of super-slow softballs. Examples: it must feel good to be back in New York and sleep in your own bed. Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski had a jolly old time mocking Ted Cruz on today's Morning Joe. Scarborough went on to approvingly cite David Axelrod, who had said that Cruz seems "staged" even when defending the honor of his wife. Get that gal a Valium. Make it a double . . . "Melodramatic" doesn't begin to describe Mika Brzezinski's histrionic hand-wringing on today's Morning Joe. Mika is in meltdown, on the verge of a political nervous breakdown. Mika's recurring theme [abetted by the panel] was horror at the spectacle of Ted Cruz's call for special attention to Muslim neighborhoods, and the spat between Cruz and Trump over their respective wives. And so it was for Mika Brzezinski today, confronted with the reality that her idol, Elizabeth Warren, who she was promoting for president as early as 2013, has apparently sold out in return for a spot in a a prospective Hillary Clinton administration. Today's Morning Joe rolled a clip of Fauxchohantas repeatedly dodging Norah O'Donnell's straightforward question: should Hillary release the transcripts of her Wall Street speeches? A few days before the South Carolina primary, I appeared on Morning Joe and said Trump was operating out of his lizard brain--which is a common phrase for the ancient knob of reflexive lower-brain structures perched atop our spinal cord--rather than his frontal lobe, which is where thought and reason take place. For this, Joe Scarborough accused me of suffering from "Trump derangement syndrome." In the view of this NewsBuster, Hugh Hewitt is the ablest conservative interviewer on radio. So it was surprising to see him serve as such a loyal CNN soldier on today's Morning Joe. Hewitt, a member of the CNN panel at Wednesday's GOP debate, refused to complain about the paltry opportunities he was given to question the candidates. And defending the fact that Donald Trump had been given twice Scott Walker and Mike Huckabee's airtime, Hewitt said that while "unfortunate," Jake Tapper had done a "marvelous" job of allocating time. That was too much for Mika Brzezinski, who bluntly told...

It's one thing for conservatives to concur that Carly Fiorina was outstanding at last night's debate. But to hear a string of superlatives about Fiorina coming from committed liberal Mika Brzezinski was breathtaking. Over the course of today's Morning Joe, a stream of praise for Fiorina flowed from Mika, capped by this: "my God, I have never seen anyone like her. Ever." View the video here.
  • Mika Harangues Morning Joe: Be Honest, Admit Trump 'Likely' GOP Nominee

Mika Brzezinski: fired up and ready to go . . . for Donald Trump? Not exactly. It isn't that Mika's jumping on the Make America Great Again express. It's just that she wants "intellectual honesty" from her peers when it comes to admitting that Trump has gone from amusing sideshow who's sure to eventually crash to true frontrunner who is now likely to be the Republican nominee. You might not think of Brzezinski as being particularly data-driven, but on today's Morning Joe she repeatedly argued that there is no data supporting a Trump meltdown scenario. Going around the table with...

Like someone looking for the first robin of Spring, this NewsBuster has been on the prowl for the first media person to suggest that Hillary Clinton is going to have to quit the race. Joe Scarborough didn't go quite that far, but let's just say his shirtfront was taking on a distinctly robin-red hue on today's Morning Joe. After lambasting her "dismal" performance on the stump, Scarborough--quoting an unidentified panel member--said that Hillary is "getting into Rick Perry 2012 territory right now." • Scarborough Rips Mika for Suggesting Schumer Controlled by Jewish Lobby

The occasional dust-ups between Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski on the Morning Joe set seem largely made-for-TV. But there appeared to be some authentic antagonism on today's show on the issue of the motivations of those who oppose the Iran deal. Scarborough passionately condemned supporters of the deal who cynically suggest that opponents are controlled by the Jewish lobby. "Why don't you guys talk about the Elders of Zion?" suggested Scarborough sarcastically at one point. When Mika tried to shut Scarborough down, claiming "we get the point," Scarborough shot back "you're the last person on the face of the earth...

85 On Wednesday, MSNBCs Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski said that Just like Fox Univision and Fusion anchor Jorge Ramos was lecturing GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump, not asking him questions. After fellow co-host former Republican Congressman Joe Scarborough stated, he gave a lecture, he wasnt asking a question. And i dont know what politician would have been actually I wouldnt have been that patient with him. I would have said, You got a question?' Brzezinski added, Just like Fox, the debate. Panelist Mike Barnicle added that Ramos was engaging in a debate with Trump, not a Q&A. Scarborough...
  • NYT Reporter: 'You Want Me to Indict and Damn Hillary Clinton? I'm Not Going to Do That'

Finally! Something from a New York Times reporter you can absolutely, positively believe: that no matter the mounting evidence, he will not condemn Hillary Clinton for her email malfeasance. On today's Morning Joe, Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough repeatedly tried to get Jeremy Peters to state whether he agreed with the federal judge who yesterday declared that Hillary had not "followed government policy" regarding her email. After haplessly trying to do anything but answer the question, an exasperated Peters finally sputtered: "you want, you want me to indict and damn Hillary? I'm not going to do that." View the video...

Did Rush Limbaugh force Fox News, in the wake of the Donald Trump/Megyn Kelly dust-up, to back down and welcome Trump back on its network? That's what New York Times reporter Nick Confessore suggested on today's Morning Joe. Asked by Mika Brzezinski who was the most powerful person in the media today, Confessore responded: "I think Fox or Rush Limbaugh [whose last name Confessore pronounced "Lim-bow], right? In this primary, right? There were two institutions that could have put a stop to Trump, talk radio and Fox. And talk radio likes him and Fox backed down." View the video here.
  • Morning Joe on Hillary Aide's 'Disaster' of Email Interview: 'There Are No Good Answers'

Yesterday, this NewsBuster was gobsmacked by the spectacle of senior Hillary aide Jennifer Palmieri suggesting that the FBI would be happy to discover that Hillary's infamous email server had been scrubbed clean. We wrote about it here. Today's Morning Joe picked through the smoldering ashes of that interview with the participation of John Heilemann, who conducted it. Joe Scarborough said that "everybody" he talked to called the interview a "disaster." Heilemann suggested that top Hillary staffers are "in the dark." The cruelest cut came from Mika Brzezinski, who said "there are no good answers." So where does Hillary go from...
  • Mika to Hillary Dead-Ender Dean on Email: 'Your Partisan Whatever is Oozing'

Partisanship oozing out of Howard Dean's wherever! On today's Morning Joe, Mika Brzezinski, exasperated by Howard Dean's dead-ender defense of Hillary on the email scandal, told him "your partisan whatever is just ooz[ing.]" You know Hillary is in hot water when even Andrea Mitchell had to report that there are "big" problems for Clinton on the email front. But Howard Dean has apparently decided to go down with Hillary's ship, clinging to his claim that the email scandal is "hooey" and declaring "you're just not going to get me to give on this."
