The scientific community is atwitter about recent reports documenting the sharp rise in retractions of articles published in scientific journals. To wit, The New York Times published a chart this week showing that such retractions have increased from a mere three instances in 2000 to a whopping 180 in 2009. The chart indicated that 235 of the articles retracted over that ten-year span were attributable to “scientific mistake.” Another 196 were attributable to “fraud or fabrication.” And the remaining 311 to “other.” That brings to mind what arguably is history’s most glaring example of scientific mistake, fraud and fabrication all...

Reflections on the anniversary of Lexington and Warsaw... By April 19, 1775, the British armed forces had been occupying Boston, Massachusetts for almost seven years. Soldiers demanded room and board from the residents of this religious town, founded over a century before by immigrants seeking a safe and hospitable place to live and work and practice their quiet, respectable, honorable denomination. But the British grew ever more tyrannical in the 1760s, until soldiers were underfoot, on the corner, in the shops, in the Bostonians’ very homes. Their freedom – the liberty their ancestors had braved the dangers of ocean voyage...

In a homily delivered Saturday, Bishop Daniel R. Jenky of the Diocese of Peoria, Illinois challenged President Obama's HHS mandate, suggesting that the president was following the same path as Hitler and Stalin. "Hitler and Stalin, at their better moments, would just barely tolerate some churches remaining open, but would not tolerate any competition with the state in education, social services, and health care," Jenky said. "In clear violation of our First Amendment rights, Barack Obama – with his radical, pro abortion and extreme secularist agenda, now seems intent on following a similar path." Jenky added.

Richard Wagner, a confused soul who resides in Seattle, Washington, has a brief biography at the website for the "Center for Progressive Christianity" which may be found here. This lost soul says that he works to "heal" professionals including religious leaders and that he has facilitated "support groups for gay clergy of numerous denominations for many years." Mr. Wagner offers his advice at a website titled drdicksexadvice.com. Why am I even writing about him? Because this lost soul who suffers from the psychopathology of homosexuality describes himself as a "gay priest." His website, which may be found here, and his...

It can no longer be denied that America has become a "seething cesspool of filth and corruption." America has become a haunt of demons and of every foul spirit. Today, even those who present themselves as "Catholic" have lost the sense of sin. Archbishop Fulton Sheen warned that, "Man is powerless to resist evil if he does not recognize it as such, and deceives himself when he becomes indifferent to evil; his whole personality immediately begins to dissolve, for the power of conscience is inseparably bound up with the denunciation of evil. And this is precisely what our world is...

In Galatians 5: 22-23, the Holy Spirit tells us through Saint Paul that, "the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control." Tricia Wittmann-Todd, Pastoral Life Coordinator at Saint Mary's Parish in the Central Area of Seattle, Washington, would deny the youth of her parish an authentic understanding of joy. Ms. Wittmann-Todd, having succumbed to the erroneous idea that Catholic moral teaching would in some way harm the youth of her parish, has refused to circulate petitions in support of Referendum 74, the ballot measure to roll back Washington's recently passed same-sex "marriage" law....

You My Friend Are No Ronald Reagan! Current events suggest President Obama is to be thought of as, "Reagan - like." For many with strong remembrance of President Ronald Reagan, Obama cannot compare. History will remind us that President Reagan, "The Great Communicator,"continually conveyed love of country; it's people and history. He strived to bring us together, having pride in country and gratitude for its blessings. Whereas, Obama, with arrogance, has pushed an unsolicited agenda, purposefully, rewrote history, shown contempt for nation with his "apology tour,"and avoided acknowledgment of, "The City on the Hill." On February 26, after some kind of altercation between a young stranger and a neighborhood watch volunteer in Sanford, Florida, the stranger was shot and killed. Every American with a television, radio, or computer now knows the names of Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman. On April 11, while sleeping in their home on Chicago’s South Calumet Avenue, Tonisha Allen and her one-year-old daughter Jaliyah were shot – in bed – by bullets that came through the wall from outside. They weren’t outside, up to no good in the middle of the night; they can’t be accused of having foolishly put...

As the railroading of George Zimmerman makes clear, we are all equal, but black hoodlums are a lot more equal than half-Jewish “white” Hispanics. They may soon become more equal still: When a 911 caller reported gunfire in the Ferndale community last month, he didn’t imagine that his description of the shooter would renew claims of racial profiling against the North Charleston Police Department. The resident, who is black, told a dispatcher that the gunman had dreadlocks in his hair, but in an interview Wednesday with The Post and Courier, he said it could have been “twists, braids or dreads.”...

Harvard professor Charles Ogletree is a friend of Barack Obama. Here he is at Al Sharpton’s National Action Network Convention yesterday, declaring, “I want to see the first white victim of the stand your ground by a black defendant and see if it works.” Stand your ground is a reference to the legality (until yesterday) of defending yourself from thugs who are bashing your head against the sidewalk in an attempt to kill you. Former Governors, Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee, were not best buds during the 2008 campaign. No one doubts that. But since Governor Huckabee decided not to run for president this time around, it seems as if they have fixed whatever ailed their relationship. Governor Romney has appeared on Huckabee’s show, and Huckabee regularly defends Romney against unfair attacks and appears even-handed even when he disagrees with Romney. That is all well and good, and demonstrates the good will and kind demeanor of both governors. However, Romney’s position on the murder of unborn children has not changed since his official declaration...
