You may know more Sanskrit than you realize. In fact, the word know comes from the same Indo-European root for the Sanskrit jnana. A Greek form of the root inflected by Latin gives us the English term gnostic, referring to knowledge of spiritual mysteries. You, faithful reader, know what agnostic means. Have you ever watched or created a video? Again, an IE root is the source of the term. Some scholars think the Sanskrit vidya, another word for knowledge, arose from a lexeme for seeing. With the twists and turns of consonants and vowels as language developed, we have an...

THIS girl has everything you need for a day at the beach: her bikini, a pal — and an assault rifle. The shocking picture, which claims to show an Israeli soldier relaxing on the sand, became an internet phenomenon after being posted on the web. The tanned, brown-haired soldier is said to be a member of the highly-trained Israeli Defence Forces. And some web users have pointed out the practical reasons for the soldier taking her weapon on her beach break. Members of the Israeli military are required to accompany their weapons at all times if they are taken outside...
  • Paterno Won Sweeter Deal Even as Scandal Played Out

In January 2011, Joe Paterno learned prosecutors were investigating his longtime assistant coach Jerry Sandusky for sexually assaulting young boys. Soon, Mr. Paterno had testified before a grand jury, and the rough outlines of what would become a giant scandal had been published in a local newspaper. That same month, Mr. Paterno, the football coach at Penn State, began negotiating with his superiors to amend his contract, with the timing something of a surprise because the contract was not set to expire until the end of 2012, according to university documents and people with knowledge of the discussions. By August,...

Bryce Harper, who ascribes to Mormonism, has become an example of another young, talented player who is bringing his beliefs into the public eye, albeit it in a much different way. Both Tebow and Harper are showing the sports world that there...

I am retired USN and currently pay a small Premium to HUMANA for TRICARE PRIME this covers my family with medical insurance. Since I began working for my employer he has allowed me to keep the portion that he would have to pay for my healthcare insurance as incentive pay it works out to be about $2.50 per hour. How is this going to be impacted by Obamacare? Any references would be appreciated.

A pot of gold from the Crusades worth up to $500,000 has been found buried in an ancient Roman fortress in Israel. The coins were buried by Christian soldiers of the order of the Knights Hospitalier as the Crusaders faced an unstoppable attack by a huge Muslim army. The knights were annihilated in April 1265. The coins - worth a fortune even in 1265 when they were thought to have been buried - were deliberately hidden inside a broken jug to prevent them being discovered. The fortress was destroyed in April 1265 by forces of Mamluks who overwhelmed the Crusaders...

Congressman Connie Mack, R-Fla., was the center of attention Sunday night at a town hall meeting sponsored by the 1830 Project Inc., a nonprofit focused on engaging 18- to 30-year-olds in the political process. The event, held in downtown Orlando, was attended by local tea party members and featured a question-and-answer session with Mack. The following are highlights from the hour-long session, where Mack, who is running for Florida’s U.S. Senate seat, discussed his penny plan, voting record and his friendship with former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist. He also asserted that his Democratic opponent Bill Nelson is "not really an...

Earlier today, Attorney General Eric Holder addressed the NAACP Nation Convention at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas. What did media need in order to attend? That's right, government issued photo identification (and a second form of identification too!), something both Holder and the NAACP stand firmly against when it comes to voting. Holder's DOJ is currently suing Texas for "discriminatory" voter ID laws. From the press release: "All media must present government-issued photo I.D. (such as a driver’s license) as well as valid media credentials. Members of the media must RSVP to receive press credentials at...
  • So what will the liberals say when\if ObamaCare is a reality?

I can honestly understand why some family of illegal immigrants would be estatic about ObamaCare being being now being covered. I can understand how an pregnant uninsured woman would think it is a good deal to get covered without question. What I am curious about is how the millions of American liberals who will have absolutely nothing to gain from ObamaCare will ultimately respond to it's effects. Most Americans are getting their insurance provided from their place of work. So, there would be no instant gratification of saving an extra $500 to $2000 a month. Rather, one day you'll arrive...
