Full Title: The Florida county where police post 'sexual predator' road signs outside homes of convicted rapists and child molesters One Florida county is taking its duty to notify neighbors about sex offenders living in the community to the next level and posting red road side outside the homes of rapists and child molesters. The sheriff of Bradford County, Florida, decided the reflective signs, which have each offender's name, should be planted on the roadways outside the houses of convicted sexual predators to ward off children and notify parents about potentially-dangerous convicts in the area. 'If it prevents one more...

Sex offences linked to Facebook or Twitter users have rocketed in the last four years, a Mirror investigation reveals. And in an another alarming trend, paedophiles are increasingly logging on to the social networking sites to target children. A total of 1,642 cases since 2009 have been reported to police where the sites played a part in the commission or aftermath of a crime. Statistics obtained under freedom of information laws show the number has more than quadrupled from 139 four years ago to 614 last year. Worryingly, more than half the 1,395 victims of all offences – apart from...

Several Obama surrogates in Virginia opposed a popular law that ensures lengthy prison sentences for child rapists. In March, the Virginia state legislature overwhelmingly passed a law that imposed automatic life sentences for any adult convicted of raping a child under the age of 13. The issue received scant attention and even less debate, according to Delegate Rob Bell (R.,Charlottesville), the bill’s sponsor. . . Opponents of the law visited the White House on at least 17 occasions, according to White House logs. Many are organizing for Obama in the highly charged race to capture Virginia’s 13 electoral votes. Sen....

Dustin Hedrick was booked into the Butte County Jail in Oroville on suspicion of six counts of forcible lewd acts on a child younger than 14 and one count of electronic communication with a 16-year-old with intent to commit sexual acts. His bail was set at $465,000. Butte County sheriff's deputies served a search warrant at Hedrick's home Thursday and arrested him. Investigators are still reviewing evidence that is mostly electronic,...
  • Some Va. sex offenders held long after sentence up

RICHMOND, Va. — Having already served their sentences, hundreds of Virginia sex offenders are held behind bars for months — some for years — while waiting to see whether they'll be sent to a psychiatric center indefinitely, an Associated Press review has found. Judges acting on the requests of both prosecutors and defense attorneys routinely shrug off the legal deadline for making that decision, leaving the inmates in limbo well beyond their designated punishment and without access to the very kind of treatment the state says they may need. Attorneys and authorities blame the delays on court backlogs and note...

HARTFORD, Conn., Oct. 24 (UPI) -- A Connecticut lawmaker says he wants to change the traditional Oct. 31 date of Halloween to the last Saturday of the month for safety and other reasons. The change would make the holiday easier for working parents, safer for trick-or-treaters and would boost the economy as well, state Rep. Tim Larson said. Moscow - Russia's national legislature the State Duma on Tuesday took up a bill proposing so-called chemical castration as a possible punishment for child molesters, the Interfax news agency reported. The procedure would be performed by chemical treatments on the convict, according to a press statement from the office of President Dmitry Medvedev, who introduced the bill to the Duma. A medical and psychological panel would have to determine the convict was likely to molest minors in the future for such a method to be deemed legally necessary, according to the statement. A convict could however request the treatment voluntarily...

This is apparently horrifying some sex abuse experts who point out that a common tactic in abuse cases is to tell the kids that they're just "playing a game." ... from a TSA director, James Marchand: "You try to make it as best you can for that child to come through. The TV spot is the latest in a string of scare-tactic ads flooding the Nevada airwaves in the final weeks of the dead-heat contest. One would think that a teacher that had 30 some years ago allegedly impregnated a 16-year-old student, a few years later sexually accosted two 12-year-old students, and was accused of molesting yet another student four years after that, would be out on his ear never to teach or be allowed around children again. But the New York teachers union would beg to differ. In fact, the union has differed so much that troubled teacher Francisco Olivares has been continually paid his $94,154 a year salary even though he’s been kept from the classroom for the last seven years. Brace yourself, Los Angeles. A storm has been building for four years over a controversial city ordinance on day laborers that has infuriated conservatives nationwide, and it's about to break -- perhaps as early as this week. The ordinance, which was approved last week by the City Council's Planning and Land Use Management Committee and will soon appear before the full council, requires home-improvement chains seeking to build new big-box stores or renovate existing ones to submit "day laborer operating standards" to the city. These standards don't require the stores to build shelters for the workers, but if day laborers...

SAN ANGELO, Texas - A state appellate court has ruled that child welfare officials had no right to seize more than 400 children living at a polygamist sect's ranch. The Third Court of Appeals in Austin ruled that the grounds for removing the children were "legally and factually insufficient" under Texas law. They did not immediately order the return of the children. Child welfare officials removed the children on the grounds that the sect pushed underage girls into marriage and sex and trained boys to become future perpetrators. The appellate court ruled the chaotic hearing held last month did not...

Are Some Men Predisposed To Pedophilia? ScienceDaily (Oct. 23, 2007) — Height may point to a biological basis for pedophilia, according to new research released by the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). The study found that pedophilic males were shorter on average than males without a sexual attraction to children. The study, published in Sexual Abuse: A Journal of Research and Treatment, suggests that pedophiles may have been exposed to pre-birth conditions that affected their physical development. The researchers observed this height difference by analyzing the files of over 1,000 men who were assessed for pedophilia or other...

After all, if they’re unaware that Thou Shall Not Kill is a bad translation of Thou Shall Not Murder, you can see where they might wind up believing that the execution of a serial killer is as sinful as the original crime. Is this a sign of things to come? In the name of nondiscrimination, will more states force religious organizations to swallow their principles or go out of business? Same-sex adoption is becoming increasingly common, but it is still highly controversial. Millions of Americans would readily agree that gay and lesbian couples can make loving parents, yet insist nevertheless that kids are better off with loving parents of both sexes. That is neither a radical view nor an intolerant one, but if the kneecapping of Catholic Charities is any indication, it may soon be forbidden.

Considering the current hoo-hah over the movie "Brokeback Mountain" and whether it will win any Academy Awards brings into focus what the appeal of this movie might be for straights – heterosexual persons, that is. While I am aware that there is a larger context for this movie in the social arena – a serious dramatic treatment of homosexual love – and that gay advocacy groups consider this another victory in their agenda to break barriers and normalize homosexuality, my personal reaction is to question why I would want to see a movie on this theme. Because of the strength...

Many of the madrassa students are children under 14, and its common knowledge that some of the clerics and teachers running the madrasses will sexually molest their students. In the past, not much attention was paid to this, because it was so shameful. In the province of Punjab (the largest in Pakistan), there have been 500 complaints about such abuse in the last six months. The government decided...

The sex, drugs and paedophilia scandal in the heart of the US Catholic Church has brought the Boston archdiocese to the edge of ruin, reports Julian Coman Leo Inzaghi, the manager of the Caffe dello Sport in Boston's Italian district, stopped reading the local newspapers last week. As a practising Catholic and a father, he found their contents too shocking. "My wife telephoned me and said, 'Have you seen what the Church knew about Father Nyhan?' It turned out that the priest at the private school where we sent our daughter was transferred there after being accused of molesting two...

Lost: 2,900 sex offenders. We swear they were right here just a minute ago. Not all are housebroken or declawed. If located, do not try returning them yourself. Contact the Wisconsin Department of Corrections; we'll send a guy with a net. Reward? Not with a billion dollar state budget deficit there ain't. You might want to refrain from asking all your neighbors if they're the pervs the state is looking for. People hate that. Our state needs help. The Department of Corrections has mislaid nearly one-third of the registered sex offenders in Wisconsin, according to a report this week....

By Karla Dial It’s easy to imagine what pedophilia advocates were thinking in 1998 when they published a study suggesting that the sexual abuse of children wasn’t all that harmful. After all, they’d seen the vast cultural and legal gains the pro-gay movement had won since 1973, when homosexuality was removed from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual — the psychiatric profession’s blue book of mental disorders. Was an order -- kept secret from the media -- given by the Pope to release all non-confessional files, data, information, etc? Did the order include releasing all formerly abused church members from "gag order" style confidentiality agreements? The pope said that the civil authorities were correct in considering these CRIMINAL cases. That would assume that the church would cooperate with the civil authorities.
