SAVANNAH, Ga. – An Army cook and single mom may face criminal charges after she skipped her deployment flight to Afghanistan because, she said, no one was available to care for her infant son while she was overseas. Spc. Alexis Hutchinson, 21, claims she had no choice but to refuse deployment orders because the only family she had to care for her 10-month-old son — her mother — was overwhelmed by the task, already caring for three other relatives with health problems.

When it comes to the workplace, they're facing the same troubles afflicting men. Across the country, women in their prime earning years, struggling with an unfriendly economy, are retreating from the workforce, either permanently or for long stretches. They had piled into jobs in growing numbers since the 1960s. But that stopped happening this decade, and as the nearly seven-year-old recovery gives way to hard times, the retreat is likely to accelerate. For the first time since the women's movement came to life, an economic recovery has come and gone, and the percentage of women at work has fallen, not...

WASHINGTON, Feb. 27, 2008 – The simple request for a “mom hug” from a young Marine serving in Iraq ignited one mom’s desire to inspire all servicemembers. Gail Lynne Goodwin launched “Inspire Me Today,” a Web site devoted to inspirational content, just 12 days ago, but the idea had been simmering for years. “Inspire Me Today was something I’ve wanted to do. It’s been my personal passion, I guess you would say,” Goodwin said. “When a person is inspired, the world changes exponentially.” As any good mom might do, however, Goodwin put her dream of launching the Web site...

A very good friend of mine is in urgent need of prayers. She is faced with a pregnancy that will not survive and will probably kill her. Her baby is developing with it's brain out side of it's skull. Her doctor has told her she needs to abort the baby as soon as possible as there is evidently some risk to herself as well. I know that there are many prayer warriors here at FR so I turned to you. Thank you in advance for the prayers.

Last Sunday's Million Mom March, the gun-control protest organized (as the major media is finally admitting) by the sister-in-law of Hillary Clinton's longtime lawyer pal and hatchet woman, surly Susan Thomases, may not do the Democrats much good this year. ...It doesn't take a weatherman to figure out that the average citizen doesn't want national policy determined by packs of weeping women led by a shrill, dimwitted talk-show host (Hillary sycophant Rosie O'Donnell).

ne of a variety of tax increases taking effect in Maryland on New Year's Day could help some smokers keep their resolutions to kick the habit this year--a doubling of the cigarette tax from $1 to $2 a pack. The vehicle titling tax also is going up from 5 to 6 percent, and the corporate income tax will rise from 7 percent to 8.25 percent. Other taxes, including a jump in the sales tax from 5 to 6 percent also are going up this week.

The moment she spotted the young woman in the puffy silver jacket, Ginger Mayes screamed her daughter's name and rushed the escalator, oblivious of the other passengers streaming into the baggage-claim area at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Zarminah Al-Rabiah stepped off the escalator and into her mother's arms. The women clutched each other in a minutes-long hug, sobbing and then laughing.

ANNAPOLIS — House lawmakers passed a $1.4 billion tax plan early yesterday morning after long weekend debates in which leaders of the Democrat-controlled General Assembly scrambled to find support for the plan. The House version of Gov. Martin O'Malley's tax plan includes an increase in the sales tax, corporate income tax and restructuring of the personal income tax and a plan to spend more than $450 million on transportation projects. Mr. O'Malley, a Democrat, called state lawmakers back to Annapolis last month for a special Assembly session to pass his plan of tax increases and legalizing slot machines to generate...

Clinton-backed group diverted tax exempt money to political campaigns, filed questionable tax return The anti-Second Amendment Million Mom March is yet another example of Creative Clinton Campaign financing, with 501(c)(3) tax exempt money being redirected for political campaign and electioneering purposes. Not only did the organization use tax deductible money to support the election campaigns of Al Gore and other candidates, it filed a very creative Form 990 tax return for the year in question. Hillary Clinton was closely involved in orchestrating the Million Mom March, and its questionable activities reflect very strongly on her personal character and integrity. For...
