It wasn't until she started to speak that the two brothers realized it was their mother calling to tell them their arguments were ruining the holidays. As soon as host Scully announced the call, the brothers exclaimed how happy they were getting a call from the South. Until they heard the voice. "You’re right, I’m from down south. And I’m your...

Hi, just wanted to put a prayer request out for my mom. Her health problems are all tied to each other. She has arthritis in her hands and back. She has a little sccoliosis that's gotten worse from a fall she took a couple years ago, and she never really did any work to get herself right, and instead she compensated for her pain/problem and made it worse. She has pain. the pain makes her use her arms and shoulders and muscles differently so that she can still do things, but that puts pressure on her body in different ways...

August has been a challenging month for my family the last few years. Two years ago, while my children, Maggie and Robert, and I were visiting my sister, Kathy, and her husband, Paul, in Key Biscayne, Florida, our mother ended up in the hospital in critical condition. While she recovered temporarily, she ultimately suffered a stroke right when school started in the fall of 2012. She spent the next year in a nursing home close to our home in Atlanta. Our whole family visited frequently -- Kathy, Paul, my husband, Jimmy, Maggie, Robert and even our two dogs, Midnight and...

In case you didn’t remember (three of my colleagues looked stricken when this topic came up), it’s Mother’s Day this Sunday. Here are nine reasons, courtesy of the latest American Time Use Survey, why you should buy your mom a present: 1.Your mom probably helped you out with your homework (women spend an average of 6.2 minutes a day doing homework with children in their households. Men spend less than four minutes); 2. It was probably your mom who had to listen to your teachers say how bad your homework was (women spend three times as much time per day...

Elizabeth Joice was first diagnosed with a malignant tumor in 2010, though she was declared cancer-free after undergoing surgery and four rounds of chemotherapy. After clearing that barrier, she and her husband, Max, wanted to start a family, but doctors told her it would be virtually impossible to conceive. But Joice was a fighter. Equality in parenting is still a pipe dream. Nearly half (48%) of working moms say they spend more time each day parenting than on their careers, more than double that of working dads (19%), according to the "Moms Who Do More" National Report, commissioned by VTech®. Because moms are picking up so much slack at home AND at work, most moms agree "me time" is nearly extinct. Nearly 70% of working moms have an hour or less to themselves each day. And more than 20% report that they

When Grace Kivisto buried her mother 15 years ago, I doubt she ever dreamt this day would come. You see, Grace's mom, Lula Cora, left the then 15-year-old Grace in 1970 after a family fight and never returned home to her 14 children. In 1996, investigators found human remains buried in family's backyard, and assumed it was the missing mother. DNA evidence wasn't that sophisticated back then, so no testing was done. I think you see where this is going. Two years ago, Grace offered up her mother's bones from the backyard to investigators to test the DNA, since the...

A Tampa mother is behind bars Monday after beating her one-year-old child for eating her marijuana. Tampa Police say India Couch, 22, faces drug and felony child abuse charges. Investigators say the child was left unsupervised, found the pot in her mother's purse, and ate an undisclosed amount of the drug. That's when police say Couch beat the child with a sandal and then hit the one-year-old hard enough to leave welts. TPD also says this mother attacked her live-in partner with a dumbbell.
