Two cars collided on a road between Trollhättan and Vänersborg in western Sweden on Friday afternoon due to an elk having chosen the unusual spot to give birth to a calf. The birth, and accident, took place close to the Båberg traffic junction on the busy route 44 highway according to a report in the Göteborgs-Posten newspaper. Ikea says it has withdrawn 17,000 portions of moose lasagna from its home furnishings stores in Europe after traces of pork were found in a batch tested in Belgium. Ikea spokeswoman Tina Kardum said the product had only been on sale for a month when it was pulled off the shelves on March 22. The company didn't announce the withdrawal publicly until Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet wrote about it Saturday. Kardum said the company found out Friday that a follow-up test in Belgium confirmed the lasagna contained 1.6 percent pork.

A man had to run for his life after a moose attacked him in his yard. The bull moose was about to hop on top of Brent Olson's car. He chased it away from his vehicle, grabbed his video camera and walked around his yard. But the moose's behavior quickly turned violent, and Olson ran for safety into his home and left the camera outside.

The moose at the Minnesota Zoo are resting on waterbeds as part of a new research project. Zoo conservation biologist Dr. Nick McCann says the rubber mats topped with straw may not allow heat to be conducted away from their bodies to the ground below. He is conducting a study on the impact of heat stress on the animals. McCann says he also wants to determine if the waterbed will be better at keeping the moose cool. He says water is an excellent conductor of heat. Two of the zoo's five holding area stalls were outfitted with waterbeds.

2 Alaska girls injured by stampeding moose EAGLE RIVER, Alaska—Police in Alaska say two girls playing in the street were injured when they were stomped by a moose. The Anchorage Daily News (http://is.gd/e69xTA) reports the girls, ages 11 and 6, were playing Monday when the moose chased them. Police in Eagle River say the girls ran to a nearby yard but the moose followed. Police spokesman Dave Parker says the 6-year-old was severely stomped on her back and arm.
