It is often said that guns, particularly assault rifles, are designed for one thing, and one thing only: to kill lots of people. Assault rifles in the United States are failing miserably in this purpose. There are tens of millions of assault rifles in America. Because the definition of an assault rifle has been rather fuzzy, the number can be said to be anywhere from 10 million to 30 million. Of those, the AR-15 type is fairly common with numbers between 5 and 10 million. The FBI murder statistics do not differentiate between types of rifles. There are about 100...

The negligence of Planned Parenthood appears to be a contributing factor in the tragic death of 24 year old Tonya Reaves. Ms. Reaves passed away last Friday after complications from a failed abortion at an Illinois Planned Parenthood clinic. Documents released by CBS detail just how disastrously the clinic responded to her medical emergency. At 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Reaves received a second-trimester dilation and evacuation (D&E) abortion at Planned Parenthood, located at 18 S. Michigan Ave. in Chicago. Following the abortion, Reaves began bleeding heavily and it continued at Planned Parenthood for five and a half hours before a...

A piece I wrote last weekend on Christian businesses prompted a snarling response from a reader who clearly was no follower of the Son of God. “Hail Satan!” it closed. I thought nothing of the comment, chalking it up to the hostility Christians sometimes face from non-believers. That is, until I saw the news reports of the horrific shootings today at a suburban Denver movie theater. The suspected triggerman, 24-year-old James Holmes, will be described variously as “troubled” or “unstable” or “detached from reality.” But I am convinced that the young killer was operating under satanic influence. If I were 10 years old, would I be badgering my parents to take me to see the new Batman film, The Dark Knight? You bet I would. It's the latest and biggest release in the superhero genre, which children instantly understand as a direct appeal to their special interests. It's also touched with the alluring suggestion of forbidden fruit: the maniacal, deranged face of The Joker, grippingly played by the late Heath Ledger, leers from posters all over town. How's the strictest gun control laws in America working out for ya there, Chi-town? New York Times: ____________________________ Mr. Emanuel listed safer streets among his top three priorities when he became mayor a year ago, but Chicago, the nation's third-largest city, is now testing that promise. Homicides are up by 38 percent from a year ago, and shootings have increased as well, even as killings have held steady or dropped in New York, Los Angeles and some other cities. As of June 17, 240 people had been killed here this year, mostly in shootings, 66 more deaths than occurred in...

There was something about the way Hillary Clinton said it that touched a nerve. “People are dying,” the Secretary of State said forcefully and finally – with an emphasis on the word “dying” that can only be born of outrage. She was talking about Syria and the brutal repression by embattled President Bashar al-Assad against a popular uprising – an uprising that Clinton and President Obama hope leads to the toppling of the Assad regime. The comment came during a June 13 press conference at the State Department as Clinton stood at a podium next to the Indian foreign minister,...

Executive privilege, conceptually speaking, is a lot like the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution: Assert it, and folks assume that there’s a coverup under way....In recent weeks, Justice officials have “retracted” earlier sworn statements —including one this week that the operation began under the Bush administration. All in all, it stinks on ice.

The Fast And Furious Scandal Is Turning Into President Obama's Watergate Tim Stanley June 21. Obama is repeating many of the mistakes that led to Nixon's resignation in 1974 Fast and furious hasn’t been discussed a lot in the mainstream media, which is why the facts can seem so preposterous when you read them for the first time. But the story is slowly unraveling and the public is catching up with the madness. On Wednesday, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee voted to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt over his decision to withhold documents related to the...

MALKIN UNLOADS ON LIBERAL ‘HANNITY’ GUEST OVER FAST AND FURIOUS:‘THE BLOOD IS ON YOUR PEOPLE'S HANDS!’ June 21, 2012 by Jonathon M. Seidl Last week, Michelle Malkin stoked the conservative fire after she challenged Juan Williams for calling her “just” a blogger. But if that was stoking the fire, what she did Wednesday night on “Hannity” to liberal Tamara Holder was torching the place with napalm. Malkin was a guest along with Holder on a segment talking about the day’s Fast and Furious news(Obama granting executive privilege and Holder being held in contempt).About three minutes in, Holder tried to...

Dan Frakes said there aren't enough superlatives in the dictionary to describe his beloved dad. "He was funny, he was very charismatic, outgoing, kind, understanding," he said. In the 1980s, Clyde Frakes ran a small car dealership on Northeast Union, which is now Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The Frakes family lot specialized in trucks and vans for working-class people not unlike themselves. On Dec. 21, 1985, Portland homicide detective Molly Daul said Clyde Frakes, who was 40 years old, arrived at the lot in the afternoon. "He went into work as usual, by himself," Daul said. "We were...
