SYDNEY (AFP) - An Australian woman who admitted killing her ex-lover and attempting to hack off his penis was jailed for three years and nine months on Wednesday, with a court accepting she was suffering depression. Jian Chen, 47, pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of her former partner Jin Xiang Peng over his fatal sedation and stabbing in February 2011 amid a protracted and bitter dispute over money and their young son. Army soldiers formed a militia group in Georgia that plotted to overthrow the U.S. government — and they killed a fellow soldier and his girlfriend to keep the plot secret, prosecutors alleged Monday, according to the Associated Press. Prosecutors in the Long County, Ga., case say that the militia group planned to overtake the nearby Fort Stewart, to bomb a dam in Washington state and poison the state’s apple crop and ultimately overthrow the government and assassinate the president, according to reports.

A 17-year-old Prince George’s County honor student who aspired to attend Harvard University was killed in her bedroom after a gunman burst into her house, police said Thursday — a crime considered unthinkable to residents who remembered the girl for her ambition and intellect. The shooting occurred at about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday inside a split-level home on a quiet street of single-family houses in the Kettering neighborhood. Detectives are investigating a report that the gunman came through the front door, made his way into the house in the 100 block of Chartsey Street and shot Amber Deanna Stanley. Other family...

Even as the Republican establishment continued to call for Representative Todd Akin of Missouri to drop out of his Senate race because of his comments on rape and abortion, Republicans approved platform language on Tuesday calling for a constitutional amendment outlawing abortion with no explicit exceptions for cases of rape or incest. The anti-abortion plank, approved by the Republican platform committee Tuesday morning in Tampa, Fla., was similar to the planks Republicans have included in their recent party platforms, which also called for a constitutional ban on abortions. The full convention is set to vote on the party's platform on...

Please ignore this if you are so "outraged" about Akin that you cannot dissect things more rationally and logically. Akin made a legitimate mistake, in his choice of words. There are no legitimate rapes. A rape is a rape, whether it was legitimate or statutory. A rape destroys life -- the life of the victim. If the rape inadvertently creates life, then that should be cherished as a sign of something good out of something horrible. So, murdering a child conceived via rape is still worth saving. By turning the rape into murder is evil. The grieving victim of the...

The court martial was first halted Wednesday so the appeals court could consider the Army psychiatrist’s objections to being forcibly shaved. We concluded that either “(1) there is no correlation between gun ownership and the murder rate, or (2) gun ownership is negatively correlated with the murder rate (in other words, more guns means fewer murders).” Some comments online have argued that we did not prove the point:...

It is often said that guns, particularly assault rifles, are designed for one thing, and one thing only: to kill lots of people. Assault rifles in the United States are failing miserably in this purpose. There are tens of millions of assault rifles in America. A Southern California jury has convicted a man of murdering his wife and their 6-year-old daughter after a paternity test revealed the child was not his. The Riverside County jury found 55-year-old Michael Barbar guilty Friday of two counts of first-degree murder in the November 2009 case. Prosecutors say Barbar, who had raised the child since birth, smashed her head against a bedpost and strangled his wife eight days after finding out the girl was not his. Jurors also found true the special circumstance allegation of lying in wait, which makes Barbar eligible for the death penalty.

Last Thursday, yet another example of the corrupt attempts at appeasement of our enemies within and without was displayed in the rotten-to-the-core decision by three of a five-judge panel of the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces to uphold the insanely unjust conviction of 1st Lt. Michael Behenna for unpremeditated murder of a known al Qaeda operative who was suspected of orchestrating a bombing that injured and killed members of Lt. Behenna’s platoon. You may recall this awful story of an American hero Army Ranger caught in the upside-down world of a military machine so compromised by leftist ideology...

MOBILE, Alabama -- The fatal gun shot that cut down a single mother of two Saturday night occurred in front of her teenage daughter, family members said today. The daughter, who asked that her name not be used, said she was standing in her front yard when her mother, Wendy Fisher, ran across the street to retrieve their dog. Fisher yelled at a passing car to slow down because it nearly hit the pet, the daughter said. At that point a black man with short hair got out of the car, she said. The daughter said she is not sure...

Justice Department (DOJ) officials indicted five individuals for the death of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry — who was murdered by drug traffickers armed through Operation Fast and Furious – and a $1 million reward for information leading to their arrest. “Agent Terry served his country honorably and made the ultimate sacrifice in trying to protect it from harm, and we will stop at nothing to bring those responsible for his murder to justice,” Attorney General Eric Holder said today. “This investigation has previously resulted in one defendant being charged with Agent Terry’s murder and taken into custody, and...

Author says she wanted to counter the propaganda used by pro-life activists. An anti-life activist has surreptitiously photographed her own abortion and posted the images online in what she claims is an effort to "demystify" the practice. The woman, who uses the name "Jane Young" on the site, claims the imagery commonly used by pro-life activists, is mere propaganda and that women are being used as pawns in a national debate. Recently, I had an abortion. Lining the street in front of the clinic were a dozen or so protesters. They held up large banners with anti-abortion slogans, religious iconography, and images...
  • Dutch Assisted Suicide Policy Should Serve as a Grisly Warning

In Canada, a judge in British Columbia has just struck down the law banning assisted suicide. Gloria Taylor, along with several other plaintiffs, filed suit claiming that the seriously ill should have the right to take their lives with the assistance of a doctor in Carter v. Canada. And it’s easy to sympathize with them. It’s easy to look at people suffering through a terminal illness and think that it’s cruel to deprive them of a quick, painless death as opposed to a long, drawn-out, painful one. But if you need to understand why both assisted suicide and euthanasia need...
