This is a vanity that is expressly not intended to sell anything, but just get opinions and associated demographics, whether the opinions are kudoses or catcalls. As long as you stay on topic you will not be considered a troll even if you positively loathe the music and tell me it's the most execrable thing since Satan. I want to know who it appeals to and who it doesn't. I would like to get some folks' reactions to the following song demos, which are free to download and pass around and keep as long as the trailer plugging the album...

The Rev. Jesse L. Jackson has demanded a meeting with the head of the Recording Academy to talk about deep cuts to Grammy Award categories this year that some musicians have complained discriminate against certain ethnic groups. With the awards ceremony two weeks away, Mr. Jackson expressed his dismay over the cutbacks in a letter to Neil Portnow, the president of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, and raised the possibility of protests. ----- On Thursday night Mr. Jackson told The Associated Press that he wanted “cooperation, not confrontation” with the recording academy, but he also said he...

Charlie Barnet was not the biggest name in Swing but he was well respected as a musician by many of his peers, including Count Basie and Duke Ellington. Syrupy smooth sounds were never part of the Barnet formula and “Skyliner” with that electric interplay between brass and saxes is as exciting as big band music could get.

President Barack Obama’s December wish list didn’t include what he hoped to get from Santa Claus. Instead, he listed big names whose endorsement he hopes to secure before Election Day in November. The star-studded list, dated December 5 and published on Wednesday by The Tennessean, contains past and current “surrogates” who Obama hopes will support him this year. In all, the list of Hollywood heavyweights, professional athletes and Washington power players is seven pages and 194 names long. It includes entertainers like Jay-Z, the Counting Crows, Tina Fey, Tom Hanks, Lea Michelle, Robert Cray, the Jonas Brothers and Oprah Winfrey...

January 16, 2012 marks Martin Luther King Day. This relatively recent federal holiday celebrates the achievements of its namesake,Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. , as an influential American civil rights leader. And rightly so. Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech given at the Lincoln Memorial, August 28, 1963 is one the top speeches in America's story. And I can still remember, as a young school girl, that terrible day in April of 1968 when Dr. King was assassinated and the nation went into mourning. In the tumultuous 1960s, We Shall Overcome was the anthem of the southern civil rights...

For the first time since the BCS held its first "national championship" game after the 1998 season, there won't be any bowl game that can realistically be portrayed as a "national championship" game. This year's game can only be considered as giving the University of Alabama an opportunity to avenge its loss against Louisiana State University(LSU). The two schools can only play for the championship of the western division of the Southeast Conference(SEC). Alabama cannot even claim the championship of the SEC from a victory because that would require Alabama to defeat eastern division champion , the University of Georgia....

I'm not a big time football fan, even though I played my fair share of football back in the day. What a thrilling end to the Denver - Pittsburgh game when Saint Tebow threw the game winning, overtime pass to the similarly remarkable Demaryius Thomas. Just as interesting as the game itself has been the media's game of trashing Tim Tebow for his praying and showing "excessive celebration" on the field by kneeling on the turf, poining his fingers up to the Lord, and other Christian confessions. The media has lightened up a bit after seeing and believing Tim's...

Billboard magazine debunks the Kelly Clarkson/Ron Paul sales bump. The magazine asserts that Kelly’s endorsement of the controversial republican presidential candidate did little to help the sales of her “Stronger” album, and in fact, her sales dropped when compared with the previous week:In the week that ended on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012, “Stronger” sold 40% fewer copies than it did the previous week (25,000, as opposed to 41,000 in the week before Christmas). And while it moved from No. 39 to No. 17 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, its upward momentum this week was caused by it having a...

Perry,Iowa — After witnessing the Perry rally in Perry, Iowa, I have a sudden urge to rush out, purchase a firearm, and start rearing eagles. And if it had that effect on me, you know it was potent stuff. The Perry rally at the HotelPattee was far, far nicer than the Santorum rally. Santorum stood on the stairs and addressed a tepid crowd of people without amplification, only four of whom were holding signs, while someone vacuumed in the background. Perry had a country music performer entertaining crowds in a nice room that Santorum seemed unaware was part of the...

The Animals were a highly influential English rock/R-n-B group, formed in the early 60s in the north-east of England (Newcastle-upon-Tyne). They later in the decade relocated to the bustling London scene. Renowned for their gritty, bluesy sound and deep-voiced frontman Eric Burdon, the band is best known for timeless classics such as "The House of the Rising Sun", "We Gotta Get Out of This Place", and "It's My Life".   The Animals presented a unique blend of rock-oriented pop hits along with R-n-B material to fill out the albums.  Later -under the name Eric Burdon and the Animals- they moved to California and yet...

Forget the books. This semester, Georgetown students might need to bring woofers and turntables to class instead. According to USA Today, the university is offering a sociology class focusing on the career of one of rap music’s biggest stars: WASHINGTON – Michael Eric Dyson parses Jay-Z’s lyrics as if analyzing fine literature. The rapper’s riffs on luxury cars and tailored clothes and boasts of being the “Mike Jordan of recording” may make for catchy rhymes, but to Dyson, they also reflect incisive social commentary. Dyson, a professor, author, radio host and television personality, has offered at Georgetown University this semester...

Apparently Miss North Korea 2011 Sora Chong created some controversy recently at the Miss Universe pageant in Rio when she made the offhand remark in an interview that sounded kind of arrogant to western ears: 'I'm a 100% natural beauty'.  But that seemingly-casual comment dovetails well with the DPRK's bankrupt socialist narrative (she was likely fed the line by watchers), and it's not quite so much about Sora Chong's own appearance -big mammos for a petite gal-as it is a dig on women from capitalist countries that have more plastic in them than your Honda.
