Oklahoma recently saw the destructive power of an EF5 tornado, but in the aftermath of the devastation, we've also been witness to the incredible resilience of the human spirit. Moore, OK resident Jack Haden survived the storm but found that his 2003 Ford Mustang wasn't quite as lucky. As you can see in the image above, the tornado's 200+ mph winds did quite a number on the car, but while most people would have likely called their insurance company and scrapped the car, Haden had other plans. After finding the car and seeing that its V6 still fired up, Haden...

The Monterey Peninsula is celebrating all things Shelby this week as part of the company's 50th anniversary celebration. The Cobra in particular will be a part of many events including the Pebble Beach Concours and the Monterey Motorsports Reunion happening at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The Shelby celebration is also especially meaningful since founder Carroll Shelby passed away back in May. As a tribute to the legendary racer and car builder, Shelby American, Ford Motor Company and Ford Racing have teamed up to build a very special tribute Mustang. Called the 2013 Shelby GT500 Cobra, the car features a custom...

The greening of a classic car makes it unrecognizable to drivers. The Ford Motor Company is giving its Mustang a unique 50th birthday present: death. Detroit will still market an automobile called the Mustang. It just won't bear much of a resemblance to the iconic roadster driven by the likes of Lt. Frank Bullitt and James Bond. Ford's new "Evos" concept features gull-wing doors, a rounded, aerodynamic body, and a smaller design clearly inspired by Europe. When Ford officially unveils its new Mustang in 2014, company insiders insist it will embrace this visual transformation. More pertinent than its changing look...

Study Reveals Most Popular Cars Of Each Major Political Party Marketing research company Strategic Vision recently completed a study that sought to identify what new vehicles found the most favor with Democrats and Republicans. After 38,000 responses the study revealed some rather interesting results. The most popular vehicle of those who self identified as members of Republican Party was the not so conservative Ford Mustang Convertible, followed by the Audi A8, Mercedes GL, Ford Expedition and Ford F-150. In fact it seems convertibles are a big hit with members of the Grand Old Party, who were responsible for 69% of...

OK, he was 24... and it happened in Switzerland. But it seems that this Mustang GT 5.0 owner -like many others- had a little bit of trouble getting used to the car's 6-speed stick and it's troublesome reverse-gear 'safety' lockout feature: add to that a few hundred horsepower and no parking garage can contain her.A miracle nobody got hurt, with a car falling out of the sky in a Swiss town center like that- just a bruised young ego, totalled 'stang, and a whole bunch of mooshed-up bikes down dere.Chalk-up another one for hyperlegislative government and blood-sucking trail attorneys...

When Chevrolet unveiled the 580 hp 2012 Camaro ZL1 and its high-tech magnetically-adjustable suspension, ostensibly claiming the title of king of the pony cars, the folks from Ford were oddly unfazed. Dont worry, they said, wait until you see what we have in the works. They werent kidding. The 2013 Shelby GT500 will come packing a 650 hp supercharged engine that Ford says is the most powerful production V8 in the world. The 5.8-liter mill sends its 600 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels via a carbon fiber driveshaft.

Yet another argument for the contention that were living in a golden era for American muscle cars arrives with the 2013 Ford Mustang, which will sport a brace of tech and styling updates across its line including the most powerful V8 engine sold by any automaker in the world. How much trouble could you get in with a 200-mph Stang? The original pony car has survived 46 years only through annual tweaking between major redesigns, and offering a broad enough model range to lure in everyone from high-schoolers to professional drag racers. Thanks to the competition with the...

It's not easy to challenge a legend, especially one that has simmered in the minds of loyal Mustang enthusiasts for over 40 years. The Boss 302, offered in limited quantities for '69 and '70, was the ultimate in high-performance for its time. Everything about the car spoke to its purpose of homologating the unique Boss 302 engine for Trans-Am racing. You can check off the list of equipment for the fastback-only Boss: high-revving 302 with large-valve Cleveland heads and solid-lifter cam, Top Loader four-speed transmission, 9-inch rearend with nodular housing, handling suspension with staggered rear shocks, 15-inch wheels with F60x15...

If all you wanna do is ride around, the classic convertible can be yours for $15,000. Ford Motor Co. will soon sell brand-new 1965 Ford Mustangs for just $15,000 each. The only hitch: There's some assembly required. As part of its Ford Reproduction business, Ford revealed today it had approved a new stamping of the steel bodies for first-generation Mustang that buyers could then build into their own 1964 1/2 through 1966 Mustang, using whatever engine, axles, interior and other parts they can find on their own...

LECOMPTON, Kansas Imagine cleaning out a garage and finding something so amazing that it was like winning the lottery. It happened to a Lecompton businessman. Working as an auctioneer for the last 40 years, Bill Fair said he has come across some weird stuff. "A skull, body parts," he said. But Fair said even he wasn't prepared for what he found recently. What Fair found was a classic 66 Shelby Mustang one of only 1,100 made, and sold from Carroll Shelby's personal car lot.

The use of a second key to unlock extra potential in a vehicle isn't exactly new: Bugatti's mind-blowing Veyron has a special tumbler-tickler that will let it hit 253mph; the Segway PT offers different fobs for different speeds. But such high-tech foppery on a Mustang? Yes, Ford continues to impress as the domestic marque with the techiest toys, announcing that buyers of next year's Boss 302 can purchase an optional TracKey package, shown after the break. Take the standard black key and you'll have a rip-roaring, 444hp monster. Take the red key, though, and you'll see how fast that pony...

As a former sailor, I like to give the "Chair" Force a hard time, mainly because that's what folks in the military do between branches. But in this case, I can't say anything. The missile watchers have two very cool new weapons in their arsenal, the Dodge "Vapor" and the Mustang X-1. Ok, it's not a weapon so much as a recruitment tool, but it's still cool: The Challenger Vapor features radar-absorbing stealth-black paint, not unlike what is used to mask stealth bombers. The Vapor is set to run almost silently, thanks to stealth exhaust whatever that means. Reminds...

Donald N. Frey, the engineer who spearheaded the design and development of the Mustang, the spunky, stylish, affordably priced pony car that the Ford Motor Company rolled out in the mid-1960s in one of the most successful car introductions in automotive history, died March 5 in Evanston, Ill., where he lived. He was 86. /...../ Though much of the Mustang was borrowed from other Ford vehicles, including a Falcon chassis, the car developed an identity all its own for a younger generation in search of new looks and experiences. It was designed to appeal to both men and women, had...

65 years ago right now the battle for Iwo Jima was raging. We all know the story of the invasion. 6000+ Marines dead. 20,000 Japanese KIA. The flag raising. Ira Hayes. What most aren't aware of is the ongoing ops after Iwo was secured. The main reason for the invasion was to take the airstrip for fighters to be able to escort the bombers to Japan. The only fighter really capable enough to accomplish this mission was the P-51. Limited space for the for the runways and ramps, ops at very high gross weights, 8+ hour missions, volcanic dust, attacking...

The Ford Mustang will get not one, but two new engines next year. Ford Motor Co. announced Monday that it plans to introduce an all-new 5.0-liter, V8 engine for its 2011 Mustang GT in the spring. The V8 engine will deliver 412 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque - 87 more horsepower than the outgoing engine. "This is the right engine for the car," said Bob Fascetti, Ford's director of large gas and diesel engines. Monday's confirmation follows Ford's announcement in November that it will also provide an all-new 3.7-liter V6 engine with 305 horsepower in the Mustang when it...

Question for FReeper gearheads: I have a beloved '97 Mustang V6 automatic. The speedo and tach work just fine, but both odometers have simultaneously ceased to advance. I am used to British Leyland/ Morris Garage vehicles wherein a cable ran from the transmission case to the back of said devices. None exist on the Mustang, just an electrical connection/wiring to a 'speed sensor' on the housing. What do you think has failed? Please apply Ockham's razor. Has the speed sensor likely failed, or is this a ghastly remove the dash and replace the speedo/tach assembly? Many thanks for your advice.

When Ford refreshed the 2010 Mustang, they ignored mostly the engine bay. However, that will change with the new 2011 Ford Mustang. The base Mustang will be powered by Fords 3.7L V6 for the 2011 model year. Although that engine yields 273 horses in Lincoln cars, power will be ramped up to 315 horsepower for the Mustang. That represents a significant increase of 105 horsepower over the current V6-powered Mustang. Furthermore, a 400 horsepower 5.0L V8 motor will also join the Mustang lineup for 2011. Dubbed Coyote, it will be used in the Mustang GT model with a six-speed manual...

HST International and Tjaarda Design have announced a new partnership that they say will "change the face of electric cars." For decades, the Ford Mustang has been a symbol of affordable performance. While the average GT will still run you less than $30,000, for many that is merely the starting point. Next is the booming Ford Mustang aftermarket business, where you can beef up every square inch of your ponycar. One item not commonly found in a Ford Racing catalog is an Aston Martin Vanquish V12 engine, but after hearing one in the engine bay of a beautiful blue stallion, we think that problem should be corrected. Sources with the involved companies tell us this is the real car -- the actual car to be used in the show. But, because "it wasn't working at the effects studio yesterday," someone did photoshop the red light. Our detective work's paid off on yesterday's rumor on the new KITT. Now not only do we have off the record confirmation from the "involved parties" that KITT will lose the GM third generation F-body (and legions of mullet-swinging fans), but also that he'll be moving up a few steps on the horsepower ladder. That's right, everyone's favorite talking car (no, not...

The fastest race in the world is in the air. Every year daredevil pilots meet in Reno, a gambler's paradise in the US state of Nevada, to find out who's the best.
