Mike Ditka, the former coach of the Chicago Bears, two-time Super Bowl champion and two-time NFL Coach of the Year, said if one of his players took a knee during the National Anthem, they would never play for me ever again. He also said young players, such as San Franciso 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, need to show respect for the game that has given them so much and stop acting like a bunch of fools out there. [] Well, heres the thing. When we live in a society that pays attention to athletes, say, as greatly as they do to...

Jackie Evancho's keeping it real at Donald Trump's inauguration ... with her voice. Sources close to the singer tell TMZ ... Jackie will sing the national anthem LIVE when she steps up to the mic Friday. You'll recall Beyonce got roasted 4 years ago for lip-syncing, a custom which has been followed by those who sang before her ... in no small part because it's hard to sing in frigid weather. We're told Jackie has never lip-synced a performance and it's out of the question for her to break tradition for the most important performance of her life. Jackie had...

This news organization spent an hour talking to Edwards, 74, about what Kaepernick has done and where the movement needs to go. Here is an edited version of the conversation with the UC Berkeley professor emeritus who lives in Fremont: . . . "When I contacted the Smithsonian (new National Museum of African American History and Culture), I told them they shouldnt wait another five or six years to get Kaps shoes, jersey and photo of the Time magazine cover and a photo of him kneeling. They need to do that now. They absolutely agreed."

  • Aretha Franklin's Insanely Long Five Minute National Anthem Causes a Twitter Meltdown

The only thing more dramatic than the Lions' 16-13 fourth-quarter win over the Vikings on Thursday was Aretha Franklin's rendition of the national anthem. Actually, "dramatic" might not be the best word to use to describe Franklin's performance. "Never-ending" would probably work better after Franklin somehow managed to belt the anthem out for a full four minutes and 35 seconds. To put that into perspective, oddsmakers usually expect the national anthem at the Super Bowl to run for roughly two minutes. Franklin doubled that, plus some, and let's just say people on Twitter weren't amused.

During a conference call with Miami reporters, Kaepernick was asked about polls that suggested his protest was one of the reasons for the decline. Theyre not watching football because of my stance about fighting systematic oppression and wanting the same equality and freedom for all people? I would say they probably need to look in the mirror at what they value, Kaepernick said, via Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

The Beaumont Bulls, a peewee football team of 11 year olds has been kicked out of their league for the rest of the season. With very little explanation, and despite previous support, the Beaumont Bulls students, staff, and parents were told by the e-board not to take a knee in their following game on Sept. 17. The team defied the request and did it anyway. Again, they won their game. The News reports that the boys were scheduled to have a bye the following week. During that time, the board decided to suspend Coach Rah-Rah Barber for the remainder of...

Just days after ripping Colin Kaepernick for kneeling during the national anthem, Ruth Bader Ginsburg admitted that really didn't have any idea what Kaepernick's protest was about when she answered a question about the 49ers quarterback during an interview this week. The Supreme Court Justice released a statement on Friday saying that her comments were "inappropriate," and that she was "barely aware" of the circumstances surrounding Kaepernick's protest.

The young men who attend St. Johns Northwestern Military Academy in Wisconsin know the names of the fallen. Their names are recited every spring - young men, alumni, who gave their lives defending America. Jack Albert, the president the military academy, believes the blood shed by his cadets make their campus sacred ground. So when Albert learned that some of the high schools in their athletic conference were allowing students to disrespect the national anthem, he decided to draw a line in the sand. To dishonor those men and their families by permitting any disrespect of the country they...

Don’t think for a minute this will qualify as a “second look at” moment on the Right — but it might on the Left. With progressives cheering the NFL’s national anthem protests as yet another truth-to-power moment — and the NFL itself almost preening over its own inaction — one might have expected one of the progressive Left’s icons to fall into line with the other cheerleaders. Instead, Ruth Bader Ginsburg might have added a new dimension to her “Notorious RBG” nickname: When asked by Couric how she feels about San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, and others athletes, refusing...
  • NFL Boycotts, Kaepernick Backlash Becoming Major Factor As NFL Ratings Drop Yet Again In Week 4

However, one factor that appears to be making a large dent in the ratings and continuing to grow is the backlash resulting from the 49ers Colin Kaepernick sitting or kneeling during the national anthem in protest of police brutality against African-Americans. A percentage of fans are now boycotting the NFL in reaction to Kaepernicks protests and/or the lack of discipline from the league offices resulting from them. Its likely that a sizable chunk of the rating decline is due to fans swiftly and decisively responding to Kaepernicks growing protests by turning the games off entirely

The latest of the Colin Kaepernick effect was felt across the football landscape this weekend. Beginning with high school football games, to members of the East Carolina Marching Band refusing to play the National Anthem, the Kaepernick effect is far reaching and exposing layers to our national season of discontent and discourse. Its also having an effect on perennial ratings darling, the National Football League. #BoycottNFL is working, and media watchers, ad people, and the folks at are beginning to talk about a trend likely not to change anytime soon. Regardless of your personal views or your politics, the...
