The artist who won the “draw Mohammed” cartoon contest attacked by terrorists last May in Garland, Texas, said his drawing was removed from eBay Wednesday on a “technicality.” Bosch Fawstin, a former Muslim, won $12,500 in prize money at the May 3, 2015, event, sponsored by Pamela Geller’s American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI), for a drawing that showed a sword-wielding prophet in a turban shouting, “You can’t draw me.” In reply, a cartoon bubble portrayed the artist as writing, “That’s why I draw you.” Two terrorists opened fire on officers outside the event before they were fatally shot by police.

Facebook employees admit they are willing to manipulate social media to prevent a Donald Trump presidency Last month, Facebook employees used a company poll to ask Zuckerberg whether the company should try “to help prevent President Trump in 2017.” Their believing that Facebook has a responsibility to influence the 2016 election is very concerning. It shows that Facebook employees are willing to censor opinions they don't agree with in the name of "social justice." If you've ever been suspended from Facebook for something extremely mild, this probably explains why. Facebook already proudly censors negative views on refugees In January is...

If you’ve spent any time on social media, particularly in the politicalsphere, chances are you’ve encountered an internet troll or two. This election cycle has been er, um… interesting. I never thought I’d long for the days the so-called Paulbots would troll my feeds lecturing me about liberty and the Constitution and Dr. Paul. At least most of those accounts were real. Alas… Not so in 2016. The Trumpbots, or accounts that seem to exist solely to attack those with unfavorable views of The Donald, are a special breed of vicious. Since the primary season got into full swing last June, I've been periodically tracking the growth of Twitter followers for each of the presidential candidates. Since my last update on January 31 (the eve of the Iowa Caucus), most of the candidates have since dropped out. Almost sadly, we are not going to have Jebbie to kick around anymore! I never would have guessed a month ago that Jebbie would be out of the race by month's end. We all figured he had the cash to go the distance and would somehow hang in there to the convention. Donald Trump has been coming under fire for retweeting a quote from Italian fascist dictator Benito Mussolini on Twitter--and it turns out the whole thing was an elaborate setup by Gawker. In a Sunday post on Gawker's website, the news organization explains how one staffer created a Twitter bot account that periodically tweeted out quotes from Mussolini and attributed them to Trump. The account has tweeted multiple times a day, only at Trump, since December 2015. (Its photo is a picture of Mussolini photoshopped with Trump's hair.) But at the moment, it ends with “EXPECT UPDATES…” Datechguy wrote a nice write-up on McCain, the man. You probably know that much already. CEO Jack Dorsey sought to calm users by saying they had no plans to implement the change this week, but reports from other tech publications indicate Twitter has already completed tests of the new feature. And indeed the company launched a feature along these lines this week. For conservatives, this is bad news. If our feeds are ordered by algorithm, this effectively means that...

Facebook is banning private sales of guns on its flagship social network and its Instagram photo-sharing service, a move meant to clamp down on unlicensed gun transactions. Facebook already prohibits people from offering marijuana, pharmaceuticals and illegal drugs for sale, and the company said on Friday that it was updating its policy to include guns. The ban applies to private, person-to-person sales of guns. Licensed gun dealers and gun clubs can still maintain Facebook pages and post on Instagram. Although Facebook was not directly involved in gun sales, it has served as a forum for gun sales to be negotiated,...

eBay Founder Pierre Omidyar is starting a news outlet called First Look Media. In the site's animated video, he describes it as "a new kind of marriage between a technology company and a new kind of newsroom," and that one of its goals will be to "make it easier for journalists to deliver the transformative stories we all need." Omidyar is known as a philanthropist, and has put his money where his mouth is (in this case, he is reportedly investing $250 million in the First Look venture). His Omidyar Network - with its funding of many altruistic initiatives such...
  • ‘Pampered’ Media Members Facing Backlash For Tweeting Sochi Problems

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Yellow, murky tap water. Warnings about what a toilet can and can’t handle. Missing floors, door handles and light bulbs. The complaints have been flooding in – and going viral on social media – as media members get settled for the Winter Olympics in Sochi. But just as quickly there’s backlash forming from people who say journalists need to stop grumbling about their accommodations in Russia and start focusing on covering the games. One columnist in the Toronto Star even accused reporters from around the globe of turning “into Ugly Americans when venturing beyond their comfort...

A new power in conservative media By: Hadas Gold January 4, 2014 05:59 PM EST A player in Christian and talk radio stations is buying up popular conservative websites — moves that could make Salem Communications the next big thing in right-wing media. The California-based company has recently gobbled up sites that reach millions of readers, like Michelle Malkin’s Twitchy.com, the Eagle Publishing group which is home to RedState.com, HumanEvents.com and the conservative publishing house Regnery. The Salem empire already includes more than 100 Christian and conservative talk-radio stations and several Christian-themed websites, as well as HotAir.com and TownHall.com. Though...

In its first report on press freedom in the United States, the Committee to Protect Journalists warns Obama has ushered in a paralyzing climate of fear for both reporters and their government sources. Among the case it details: six government employees - plus two contractors, including Edward Snowden - have faced felony criminal prosecutions since 2009 under the 1917 Espionage Act for leaking classified information to the press, compared with three such prosecutions in ALL previous U.S. administrations. ...

Ask conservatives what went wrong for them the last time the government shut down, and many of them will bring up the cover of The Daily News of New York from Nov. 16, 1995. Under the block-lettered headline “Cry Baby,” it showed a cartoon of Newt Gingrich, then speaker of the Republican-led House, in tears, clutching a bottle and wearing nothing but a cloth diaper. Back then, Rupert Murdoch’s Fox News Channel was a year from its debut, Andrew Breitbart was a lowly assistant at E! Online, and The Drudge Report was an obscure gossip and news digest sent by...

Drudge Report is streaming the FreedomWorks Live video feed of Ted Cruz speaking on the Senate floor. It's right above the headline in the middle of the page. I don't think I've seen that before.

What good is a social media site that punishes people for communicating with each other? That's what a growing number of users are asking after being punished and banned from Facebook for making innocuous comments in posts to others. One of the most egregious examples happened Friday when Examiner.com's Joseph L. Parker thanked someone for liking an article he wrote. On Friday, Parker sent Examiner a screenshot of the message he received telling him his message of thanks was considered "spam" and informing him he was temporarily blocked from posting comments. This kind of complaint is not unusual, but has...

Exclusive: Patrice Lewis says New Media saved America from progressive demise It may come as a surprise to many people, but America is in the midst of a revolution. It’s not the revolution you might think. Patriots are not fighting enemies in the street. The Minutemen are not assembling in the green, ready to defend against redcoats. No, it isn’t the patriots who are fighting a revolution. It’s the progressives who have been fomenting the revolt. And, until recently, they were winning. Quite simply, they are fighting a revolution against the Constitution. Think about it. The progressives object to just...

Conservative Fox News commentator Todd Starnes said Saturday he was temporarily banned from Facebook over a post he wrote extolling the National Rifle Association, Chick-fil-A and Paula Deen. Conservative Commentator Says Facebook Blocked Him Over Politically Incorrect Post About the NRA, Paula Deen and Jesus “I’m about as politically incorrect as you can get,” Starnes wrote. “I’m wearing an NRA ball cap, eating a Chick-fil-A sandwich, reading a Paula Deen cookbook and sipping a 20-ounce sweet tea while sitting in my Cracker Barrel rocking chair with the Gather Vocal Band singing ‘Jesus Saves’ on the stereo and a Gideon’s Bible...
