Well, that didn’t take very long. Yesterday afternoon, we told you about Gawker’s newest addition, a Fox News employee hired to deliver anonymous dispatches on the inner workings of the cable network. Less than 24 hours later, Fox News is now saying they’ve identified the employee. “We found the person and we’re exploring legal options at this time,” a Fox spokesperson told Mediaite this afternoon. A former Fox News employee tells TVNewser, “There are a lot of employees that share similar views about FNC but are just to afraid to speak up — and rightly so. You have to protect...

A California parole board Wednesday quickly rejected parole for convicted mass murderer Charles Manson, a prison spokesman said. Manson did not attend the hearing, which was the 12th in which state officials concluded Manson was too great a danger to be released. The board was expected to make a ruling Wednesday afternoon, and it's unclear exactly why the decision was rendered so quickly. Before the hearing, his attorney, DeJon R. Lewis, said he would like to see Manson transferred to Atascadero State Hospital from the state prison near Corcoran. "Charles Manson does not need incarceration at this point in his...

Wednesday, April 11, 1:56 PM Florida special prosecutor Angela Corey plans to announce as early as this afternoon that she is charging neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman in the shooting of Trayvon Martin, according to a law enforcement official close to the investigation. It was not immediately clear what charge Zimmerman will face. Martin, 17 and unarmed, was shot and killed Feb. 26 by Zimmerman, who said he was acting in self defense. Police in Sanford, Fla., where the shooting took place, did not charge Zimmerman, citing the state’s “stand your ground” law. Corey told reporters Tuesday night that she...

Iran said Wednesday it will present "new initiatives" at upcoming nuclear talks with the so-called P5+1 in Istanbul on April 15. Iranian state media reported that Tehran's chief nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili would present new proposals, but did not give specifics. Jalili also warned that what he called attempts to us the “language of force” against Iran would be “useless” and would "backfire." He added that Iran believes the talks should be based on “mutual cooperation.” Representatives from the P5+1 – the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany – have made it clear they expect Iran...

Editor's note: Alan Dershowitz is the Felix Frankfurter professor of law at Harvard Law School. (CNN) -- On the basis of the evidence currently in the public record, one likely outcome of the case against George Zimmerman is a mixed one: There may be sufficient evidence for a reasonable prosecutor to indict him for manslaughter, but there may also be doubt sufficient for a reasonable jury to acquit him. Any such predictions should be accepted with an abundance of caution, however, because the evidence known to the special prosecutor, but not to the public, may paint a different picture. It...

Much has been written about Romney’s chameleon-like worldview but very little has been written about his actual record while Governor of Massachusetts. In a world in which slogans, sound bites and “plans” are the common currency of campaign communications, it would be wise for voters to peel back the curtain of campaign propaganda and look at a candidate’s actual governing record. This is even more necessary when it comes to Romney, given his notoriety over revising his views on just about every major issue. After all, history informs us that a person’s record is a far better indicator of how...

According to WWJ Detroit, there was an explosion at the General Motors Tech Center in Warren, Mich., on Wednesday morning. Deputy Fire Chief Gary Wilkinson said the explosion most likely was related to a lithium battery. Wilkinson told Autoweek that a responder notified the HAZMAT team via radio that the explosion involved lithium batteries in the research facility's Alternative Energy Center. The fire was extinguished and portions of the facility were evacuated, but responders were still on the scene. Two people were taken to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. DETROIT - A Detroit woman's confrontation Thursday morning with a group of intruders in her home on the city's west side ended with one of them being shot dead. It all unfolded in the 17500 block of Appoline at about 10 a.m. Family members of the 38-year-old woman told Local 4 she heard the men break into her home and found them in her kitchen, handling a gun they had found in her purse. The family members said one of the men tried to go upstairs but was shot in the head by the woman, who used another gun she...

A short piece of legislation recently passed by the Arizona legislature makes a big statement.HB2434 affirms the sheriffs of Arizona as the supreme constitutional law enforcement officers in their counties and serves notice to the federal government that it must work through them to exercise their limited powers. The bill simply states that:A. Before taking any official law enforcement action in a county in this state, a federal law enforcement officer shall notify the sheriff of the county, unless the notification would impede the federal officer’s duties.B. If a federal law enforcement officer does not notify the sheriff pursuant to subsection...

As the global economy rebounds, however modestly, plaintiffs’ lawyers seem to be taking note. The federal securities class action litigation arena is increasingly focused on mergers-and-acquisitions-related cases, which increased by 17% to reach an all time high in 2011, according to a new study.

President Obama has money troubles. The president's re-election campaign was rumored to be a $1 billion juggernaut, it was supposed to dominate the 2012 election. But it has fallen short of that lofty number, by a lot. The inability to reach the big B is a warning signal to the base. In 2008 Democrats had every reason in the world to donate, and they need to be convinced of the same this time around.

Copper -- the stuff of pennies and tea kettles -- is also one of the few metals that can turn carbon dioxide into hydrocarbon fuels with relatively little energy. When fashioned into an electrode and stimulated with voltage, copper acts as a strong catalyst, setting off an electrochemical reaction with carbon dioxide that reduces the greenhouse gas to methane or methanol. Various researchers around the world have studied copper’s potential as an energy-efficient means of recycling carbon dioxide emissions in powerplants: Instead of being released into the atmosphere, carbon dioxide would be circulated through a copper catalyst and turned into...

Ryan Jerome took his .45-caliber Ruger with him to Manhattan last September and thought he understood the city's weapons laws when he carried his loaded handgun on a side trip to the Empire State Building. But Jerome, who is from Indiana, soon found himself in a legal tangle that he said illustrates the confusing array of gun laws in the U.S. and the need for uniformity. "How can the city of New York override your rights under the Second Amendment of the Constitution?" said Jerome, 29, who pleaded guilty last month to a misdemeanor weapons possession charge as part of...

I spent my Easter at a shooting range about an hour west of my home. My wife had to work and I did not have plans to see family, so had some extra time to occupy myself with. I decided to put that extra time to use breaking a shotgun I purchased about a month for home defense. While my shoulder handled the 2 1/2 inch target shells pretty well, the 3 inch magnum 00 buckshot I shot pretty much made it raw. While on my way to and from the range is a drive down a Mississippi country highway...
