According to the Arlington City Charter, City Council members elected in Districts 6, 7 and 8 shall “reside and be registered to vote within the boundaries of the city of Arlington at the time of filing for the election.” Hawkes-Vinyard listed an Arlington address as her residence on the city council application. However, she owns a home in Frisco and claimed it on a 2010 Residence Homestead Exemption.

Amid outrages like an $800,000-plus party scandal at the General Services Administration, the Secret Service prostitute scandal and a recent Medicare fraud bust that netted 107 people scamming Medicare out of $450 million, what does President Obama want to do? Why, spend $52 million in taxpayer dollars cracking down on ... oil speculators. Depending on how the administration defines "speculation," the target could be half of the U.S. population — including me, and probably you. So let me 'fess up right here. I have a little money in a 401(k), and I have been known to put some of that...

‘Clean energy” is the political darling of the moment. President Obama has made the promotion of clean energy one of the centerpieces of his administration and his reelection effort. The Democratic National Committee claims that “clean energy” investments are “helping pave the way to a more sustainable future, creating new jobs and entire industries here in America.” Last month, the Center for American Progress, a leftist think tank, released a report that touted the need to build a clean-energy economy. On Sunday, an editorial in the New York Times extolled the benefits of renewable energy and declared that the “clean...

Election '12: The president seems to think bragging about killing Osama bin Laden will help get him re-elected. But the question is increasingly becoming why the president hesitated on such a no-brainer decision. Jack Keane, the Army vice chief of staff from 1999 to 2003, told Mike Huckabee on Fox News over the weekend that the U.S. government knew exactly where Osama bin Laden was nearly a year before President Obama gave the order to send in the Navy SEALs to his compound in Pakistan. The retired general told Huckabee, "We had the target in the summer (of) 2010, and...

CAIRO — Militants who have vowed allegiance to al-Qaida attack security forces in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula close to Israel and enjoy unchallenged control of two border towns. Preferences: Democratic candidate Elizabeth Warren insists she's a pre-eminent scholar who didn't need minority status to join Harvard's faculty. But critics have long questioned her research. The blond, blue-eyed Bostonian has been caught up in a bizarre racial-quotas scandal as she battles to take back Ted Kennedy's old Senate seat. Turns out throughout her academic career, Warren has listed her race as Native American in law school directories that administrators use as a tip sheet when making diversity hires. She claims to be 1/32nd Cherokee Indian, even though the Cherokee Nation has never counted her as a member. She bases...

As a recent college graduate holding down his first job in the 1980s, Barack Obama did not make much of an impression on someone who knew the ways of the world: His girlfriend’s landlord. “I can honestly say that I do not remember him,” said Ralph Allen, who owned the brownstone in Park Slope, Brooklyn, where Mr. Obama’s girlfriend at the time, Genevieve Cook, rented the top-floor apartment — an apartment Mr. Obama shared with her in late 1984. “Maybe we met while I was sitting out on the stoop one night. Who knows.”

Corporate offshore outsourcing lobbyists are on a roll, going on talk shows and writing propaganda plants as articles. White papers are falling like snow where even labor economics equations are manipulated. Every day we hear pure statistical fiction and politicians tout corporate lobbyist provided talking points, even in GOP debates. Why? Corporations are demanding more immigration and foreign guest worker Visas to displace Americans, repress wages, technology transfer and offshore outsource further. There is No Labor Shortage in the United States. None, and that includes high skilled labor. In 2010, there were 3,531,000 computer & mathematical related occupation workers. Yet...
  • Report: Elizabeth Warren’s ancestor may have … rounded up Cherokee for Trail of Tears

Out: Elizabeth Warren, Native American. In: Elizabeth Warren, Jacksonian Democrat. Man, in hindsight it’s a good thing she didn’t attend the annual Harvard Powwow yesterday after all, huh? Awwwk-ward. "As I pointed out in my article here on Sunday, no evidence supports this claim [that her great-great-great grandmother was Cherokee]. O.C. Sarah Smith Crawford had no Cherokee heritage, was listed as “white” in the Census of 1860, and was most likely half Swedish and half English, Scottish, or German, or some combination thereof. (Note, the actual 1894 marriage license makes no claim of Cherokee ancestry.)" "But the most stunning discovery...

Tea Party Upstart Mourdock Defeats Longtime Indiana Sen. Lugar By Kim Geiger May 8, 2012 Richard Mourdock has defeated longtime Sen. Richard G. Lugar of Indiana in the Republican primary, according to an Associated Press projection, ending the career of one of the Senate’s most pragmatic politicians and casting a cloud over GOP efforts to win control of the chamber. Mourdock, state treasurer in Indiana, campaigned as a conservative alternative to Lugar. He became a darling of the tea party movement after he began a legal challenge to the terms of the Obama administration’s bailout of Chrysler. Mourdock was endorsed...

Tim Kaine, a Democratic candidate for Senate and one of President Barack Obama's closest allies, met with reporters on Tuesday to discuss politics nationally and in his home state, Virginia. And here's what everyone wanted to know: What do you, Tim Kaine, think about gay marriage? Thus began an inquiry in which a clearly uncomfortable Kaine, a former Roman Catholic missionary, crossed his arms and, while carefully avoiding an endorsement of same-sex marriage, stressed that "I believe in the legal equality of relationships." The scene reflected how Democratic candidates and office-holders are being drawn into the political hornets' nest that...
