Amid outrages like an $800,000-plus party scandal at the General Services Administration, the Secret Service prostitute scandal and a recent Medicare fraud bust that netted 107 people scamming Medicare out of $450 million, what does President Obama want to do? Why, spend $52 million in taxpayer dollars cracking down on ... oil speculators. Depending on how the administration defines "speculation," the target could be half of the U.S. population ó including me, and probably you. So let me 'fess up right here. The U.S. government downgraded its estimate for the average price of retail gasoline for the summer driving season to $3.79 a gallon from the previous month's $3.95, the U.S. Energy Information Administration said in its monthly Short-Term Energy Outlook. The report added that prices at the pump already may have peaked for the rest of the year. The report said gasoline averaged $3.90 a gallon last month -- and estimates that the monthly average price will go no higher...

The would-be suicide bomber dispatched by the Yemen branch of Al Qaeda last month to blow up a United States-bound airliner was actually a double agent who infiltrated the terrorist group and volunteered for the suicide mission, American and foreign officials said Tuesday. In an extraordinary intelligence coup, the agent left Yemen, traveling by way of the United Arab Emirates, and delivered both the innovative bomb designed for his air attack and critical information on the groupís leaders to the C.I.A., Saudi and other foreign intelligence agencies. After spending weeks at the center of the terrorist networkís most dangerous affiliate,...

A rudderless Greece was drifting closer towards a euro exit on Tuesday night as the man tasked with forming a new government vowed to abandon its austerity promises. Left-wing leader Alexis Tsipras was handed a mandate to attempt to form a coalition, after the two mainstream parties failed to reach a deal following Sundayís inconclusive election. But fresh elections loom as soon as next month, after the politician said he would rip up the agreement under which Athens was bailed out by the EU and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), cancelling cuts and reforms. The turmoil is seen as raising...

INDIANAPOLIS (Reuters) - Senator Richard Lugar appealed to Democrats to cross party lines and vote for him in the Indiana Republican primary on Tuesday, in a last ditch effort to save his 35-year Senate career from a Tea Party backed rival who accuses him of being too supportive of President Barack Obama. "I've asked very candidly for support from all Hoosiers. Not just Republicans, but Democrats and independents. I'm asking for the Republican Party to expand," Lugar said at his campaign headquarters in Indianapolis on Tuesday, where two dozen volunteers rang a bell each time a voter pledged to vote...

Why would anyone under the age of 25 vote for Barack Obama in November? Mr. Obama resumed his College Tour 2012 last week, visiting campuses in Iowa, North Carolina and Colorado for the purpose of replicating his 66% youth-vote total from 2008. In 2008, he reeled them in with promises of hope and change. In 2012 he's offering cash, promising to protect 3.4% interest on their college loans. We're about to find out if it's true that when you're young, hope springs eternal. Put differently, the past three years have been a Peter Pan presidency for Peter Pan voters. If...

The anti-gun lobby, the Ohio Coalition Against Gun Violence and Democratic state officials are aiming their pointy little fingers at state Republican Rep. Margaret Conditt of Liberty Township because she plans to have an election fundraiser at Middletown Sportsmenís Club on May 12. The club is a -- danger alert -- firing range, and apparently a big no-no if concerned citizens care about gun violence and young people. Firing ranges, being operated by the experts, taking the best possible precautions, are practical, effective and legal; so what is the problem with having a politician conduct a fundraiser at a local...
