The left-wing media went wild after the election when analysis showed that many poorer Americans supported President Obama and entitlements could have been a major reason why. Liberals always like to think of themselves as noble, and the thought that some vote-buying could have occurred is deeply offensive to them. Nevertheless, the facts speak for themselves. Americans earning less than $30,000 a year gave the president about 7 million more votes than Gov. Romney. All told, Obama defeated Romney by 3.5 million votes. The math is clear. But what about motivation? How can you assign entitlements as a voting factor?...

A couple had their three foster children taken away by a council on the grounds that their membership of the UK Independence Party meant that they supported “racist” policies. The husband and wife, who have been fostering for nearly seven years, said they were made to feel like criminals when a social worker told them that their views on immigration made them unsuitable carers. Nigel Farage, the leader of Ukip, described the actions of Rotherham borough council as “a bloody outrage” and “political prejudice of the very worst kind”. The husband was a Royal Navy reservist for more than 30...

In Madrid, the central government of Mariano Rajoy has pledged to fight any move towards independence. There are fears that fellow separatists in the Basque region and even Galicia will follow suit, provoking a constitutional crisis. One association of retired and active members of the military even warned that war should be declared on Catalonia if the region broke away and others have suggested Mas [ Artur Mas, the incumbent regional president and leader of the centre-Right Convergence and Union Party (CIU)] should be tried for treason. The left's post-election celebrations are wholly unwarranted. Consider.................................. In fact, every other Republican seat is in a state which Romney carried handily, while four other Democrat seats -- in New Hampshire, Virginia, Iowa, and Colorado -- came from states in which Romney ran close to Obama. That translates in 2014 into gains, and very likely gains which will translate into a Republican Senate majority. That very fact -- because Senate Democrats can do the math -- means that Harry Reid's plan to make filibusters harder will almost certainly fail: in two years, and perhaps for years thereafter, Republicans may control...

Hindu-Americans have the highest socioeconomic levels among all religions in the United States, according to a new study by the Pew Research Center’s Forum on Religion and Public Life. Experts say U.S. immigration policy is the main reason Hindus do so well. Both the 1965 Immigration Act and the more recent H1-B visa program set the table for Hindus to succeed. The former encouraged the immigration of professionals, particularly doctors and engineers, while the latter was designed to encourage the immigration of highly skilled “guest workers.” The number of H1-B visas issued to Indians grew steadily in the late 1990s...

Hamas fires 275 rockets at Israel and is rewarded with de facto acceptance as a legitimate negotiating partner in the Middle East peace process, as well as with a relaxation of the Israeli blockade of the Gaza coast. Israel is prevented from exacting a price for Hamas’ actions sufficient to deter future attacks or degrade Hamas’ capabilities. In one stroke, the Obama administration has overturned thirty years of American policy, which rejected negotiations with Hamas and other terrorist organizations. Secretary of State Clinton, to be sure, did not negotiate directly with Hamas, but rather with Egypt’s President Mohammed Morsi, who...

There is nothing wrong with Black Friday. Save for the fact that it seems to bring out behaviors that may well have perplexed Neanderthals. One example might be that of a man who pulled a gun on a line-cutter at a Sears in San Antonio, Texas. Another might be the following joyous, spirit-lifting tale from Springfield, Mass. According to police, 34-year-old Anthony Perry was very much excited by a 51-inch TV at his local K-Mart. He allegedly drove to the mall at around 1:30 a.m., his girlfriend's 2-year-old in tow. This is mainly because of the deteriorating economic situation in Egypt since the Brotherhood came to power. … It was not difficult for the MB to request—and probably help their sister Hamas organization—in flooding Israel with rocket attacks...

"The people wanted me to be the guardian of these steps in this phase," Reuters quoted Mr. Morsi as saying on Friday. "I don't like and don't want—and there is no need—to use exceptional measures. But those who are trying to gnaw the bones of the nation" must be "held accountable." Mr. Morsi says his diktat will merely...

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Now that the Obama and Romney campaigns have closed their headquarters in Chicago and Boston, the attention of the political world is shifting to an office suite tucked behind the colonnades of the Biltmore Hotel complex here. The suite is where former Gov. Jeb Bush manages his consulting business, his education foundation and, now, the (very) early decision-making process for a possible presidential run in 2016.

... While some researchers have suggested that fetuses yawn, others have disagreed and claim it is simple mouth opening. But the new research clearly distinguished 'yawning' from 'non-yawn mouth opening' based on the duration of mouth opening. The researchers did this by using the 4D video footage to closely examine all events where a mouth stretch occurred in the fetus. Using their newly developed criteria, the research team found that over half of the mouth openings observed in the study were classed as yawns. The study was carried out on eight female and seven male fetuses from 24 to 36...

The Sweden Democrats' new justice policy spokesman, unveiled on Thursday as part of a reshuffle in the wake of a racist video scandal, has already made headlines for his comparison of Islamism to Nazism. “We’re presenting a new team today after what happened last week,” Jimmie Åkesson said at a press conference, referring to the scandal after the publication of a video showing three party members in a drunken and racist tirade from 2010. Åkesson presented Richard Jomshof, a former high school teacher who was previously the editor in chief for the Sweden Democrat paper SD–Kuriren, as the replacement for...
  • WMass Walmart stores picketed on Black Friday(by activists)

On the biggest shopping day of the year, some people here in western Massachusetts participated in one of the largest protests against Walmart, America’s largest retailer. At stores in Springfield, Ware, and Northampton, protestors chanted slogans like: “Walmart rich and rude… we don’t like your attitude.” As Black Friday shoppers walked in with their holiday gift shopping lists, they were given flyers from protesters. The local demonstrations were part of a larger nationwide rally for workers’ rights. In Northampton, the majority of those rallying were nearby residents and not store employees, though at other locations, employees joined the protests after...
  • Walmart protests draw crowds, shoppers largely unfazed

By Emily Bryson York, Chicago Tribune reporter 3:52 pm, November 23, 2012 Dozens of local workers, and hundreds nationally, took advantage of Black Friday crowds and camera crews at major retailers like Walmart to call for wage increases. But there was little evidence that the chanting disrupted holiday shoppers. Steven Restivo, a spokesman for Wal-Mart Stores, said the chain had done its "best Black Friday event ever" despite protests organized by the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union in Chicago and other cities. At a Walmart in Chicago's Chatham neighborhood on the south side, only one of the store's...

  • For O.C. Republicans, party's immigration stance is a millstone

Orange County was once an instant synonym for Republican power, and the GOP's dominance looked impregnable. Now, battered by the recent election results and dismayed by the slow, steady decline in party registration, Republicans here are struggling to craft a new strategy. The percentage of registered Republicans has eroded — it now stands at 41% — and the party has long since lost control of the political districts that envelop the county seat of Santa Ana, a Latino-dominated city of 330,000, and surrounding communities in the county's core. This month's election brought more blows. For the second time, the once-red...

Second Amendment: A House resolution, as futile as it may be, represents growing opposition to another administration bow to the U.N. encroachment on U.S. sovereignty at the expense of its laws and even our Constitution. Treaties are ratified by a two-thirds majority of the Senate, and the final version of the U.N.'s Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) may likely be signed by this president and ratified by this Senate, especially if presented as a "sensible restriction" on international arms trafficking with no impact on our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. But some House members are not going to...

According to reports from Egypt, the Constitutional Court is seeking to impeach new Muslim Brotherhood president Mohammed Morsi after Morsi seized quasi-dictatorial power, sparking protests around the country. Morsi waited for the Obama administration’s praise over the Israel-Hamas ceasefire to make the move. Local media reports a courts spokesperson stating, “the judges are prepared to exercise the right to shift the head of state after he flouted the laws and the constitution.” The problem is that there is no operating constitution in Egypt; the constitution was suspended in March 2011, after the revolution, and no new constitution has been approved....

Friday, 23 November 2012 17:00 Homeland Security Uses Local Police to Set Up Surveillance Buffer Zones Written by Joe Wolverton, II, J.D. In order to sweeten the pot of federalization, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is giving gifts of expensive gadgets to local police forces. Cops in North Jersey, for example, were showered with gifts from their would-be overseers. As reported by The Record: Oradell, Emerson, Closter and Harrington Park police have car-mounted night-vision technology and video and recording equipment that can watch over the Oradell Reservoir and dam — and the hikers and anglers entering it.
