If everyone in America had read Stephen Moore's new book, "Who's The Fairest of Them All?", Barack Obama would have lost the election in a landslide. The point here is not to say, "Where was Stephen Moore when we needed him?" A more apt question might be, "Where was the whole economics profession when we needed them?" Where were the media? For that matter, where were the Republicans? Since "Who's The Fairest of Them All?" was published in October, there was little chance that it would affect this year's election. But this little gem of a book exposes, in plain...

Leo Tolstoy once said, “Imagine Genghis Khan with a telephone.” Imagine Genghis Khan, or a gaggle of Genghis Khans, running the Internet, and you have a sense of the ideas that will be percolating in Dubai at the World Conference on International Telecommunications in December. Delegates from 120 countries will gather under the auspices of the United Nations to consider a plan to take administrative control of the Internet away from the United States and hand it over to an international body run by the UN. In short, governance of cyberspace will pass from the country that has kept it...

ALBANY, N.Y. — The count of paper ballots in two critical New York state Senate races is in the final stages this week, with control of the chamber hanging in the balance. The seesawing leads continue in the 46th Senate District, where Democrat Cecilia Tkaczyk (KAT'-chihk) trails by about 700 votes with more than 3,000 votes yet to be counted in her Ulster County stronghold. Republican George Amedore (AM'-uh-dohr) has the lead after being behind on election night. The counting resumes Tuesday and the race could be decided by the end of the day.

By ALEXANDER BURNS | 11/26/12 10:54 AM EST Via Hohmann, the Des Moines Register reports on the huge sums both presidential campaigns spent in the last weeks of the 2012 race -- and OFA's consistent advantage on the air in spite of Romney's money: "Together, the campaigns and their allies averaged nearly $1 million a day in new TV spending in swing-state Iowa from Oct. 1 to Election Day. Several polls in the frenzied final weeks had shown a neck-and-neck battle in Iowa. Romney and the outside groups backing him spent $21.5 million in the final five weeks, essentially matching...

An appellate division panel said Tuesday a Bergen County district’s policy for disciplining students for delinquent behavior that occurred off campus was “overbroad” and exceeded a school’s authority. The opinion upheld a prior ruling by the state education commissioner, who advised the Ramapo Indian Hills Regional High School District to revise its policy. Known as “Regulation 6145,” the disputed policy said students would be temporarily suspended from sports and other extracurricular activities if they were arrested at any time, on campus or off, for allegedly drinking alcohol, using drugs, or violating a criminal statute or municipal ordinance. When then-Acting Education...
  • Red-blooded America runs deep in 'Red Dawn' - film liberal critics love to hate (WOLVERINES!!)

Out of curiosity, I took a look at how film critics from other newspapers and publications reviewed the new “Red Dawn,” a remake of the 1984 cult classic about teenagers taking up guns and defending America from communist invaders. You’d think from the critics’ condescending sneers that the remake is utter garbage. “Preposterous,” said one critic of the remake’s premise that North Korea could invade the U.S. today. “Outdated,” said another, suggesting the plot line be relegated to the ancient Cold War and the once-upon-a-time Red Scare. The only thing that’s “preposterous,” however, is the speed at which these obviously...

“A local militia, believed to be a terrorist organization, attacked the property of private citizens today at our nation’s busiest port,” wrote the teachers in charge of organizing the curriculum about the Boston Tea Party. “Although no one was injured in the attack, a large quantity of merchandise, considered to be valuable to its owners and loathsome to the perpetrators, was destroyed. The terrorists, dressed in disguise and apparently intoxicated, were able to escape into the night with the help of local citizens who harbor these fugitives and conceal their identities from the authorities.

Will The Peak Of The Solar Cycle In 2013 Produce Technology Crippling Solar Super Storms? By Michael Snyder November 25th, 2012 Our sun is becoming increasingly unstable, and most people have no idea the complete and utter devastation that a massive solar storm could potentially cause. A giant solar storm could potentially take out satellites, GPS systems, electrical grids, communication networks and pretty much anything else that runs on electricity or that relies upon electronics. And considering how dependent our society has become on technology, we are talking about an event that could possibly bring about the end of the...

Last week, I pointed out that there is no such thing as a natural social-conservative skew among Latino Americans. But that leaves open a rejoinder, expressed by several readers: The GOP doesn’t need to get all of the Latino vote, just its fair share. That’s true, and I should have made my point clearer. In the wake of the election, some social conservatives have tried a new version of the old Silent Majority argument, contending that Republicans can continue to make their candidates pass litmus tests on abortion and gay marriage and still win national elections if only it taps...
  • Promises on Gun Control

President Obama's fleeting mention of the need for stronger gun controls at a presidential debate last month was hardly the kind of forceful political statement needed to address the scourge of gun violence in this country. Even his tepid remark was considered by the nation's gun owners as a threat to take away their firearms. In what amounts to a buyers' panic, they are again ramping up gun and ammunition sales as they did four years ago, convinced that Mr. Obama intends a gun-control crackdown. Yet in his first term, Mr. Obama did nothing to cross the gun lobby, and...

Hamas traces its roots back to the Muslim Brotherhood. Sheikh Hasan Ahmed Abdel Rahman Muhammed al-Banna launched the Muslim Brothers in March 1928. The motto of the Muslim Brotherhood, which al-Banna supplied, is: "Islam is the solution, the Koran is our Constitution, Allah is our objective. The Prophet is our Leader, Jihad is our way, dying in the way of Allah is our highest hope." Said Ramadan was born in 1926 in Shibin al-Kawm, a village in the Nile delta. He encountered al-Banna and joined the Muslim Brotherhood when he was 14. After graduating from Cairo University, he became al-Banna's...
