She became the face for the pro-abortion movement during the 2012 elections and the laughingstock of pro-lifers for her relentless push to force Americans to pay for her birth control. College student Sandra Fluke has been nominated as a potential Person of the Year by Time Magazine. Fluke is apparently unable to figure out how to purchase low-cost birth control from places like Target, Wal-Mart or her local pharmacy. Still, Time magazine felt she was qualified enough to include her with legitimate newsmakers and leaders who are significantly more deserving of the award and recognition.

HOUSTON (CBS Houston) — Stop thinking that all porn actresses are “damaged goods.” A new study finds that female porn stars are more religious and have a higher self-esteem than other women. The study, which was published in the Journal of Sex Research, concluded that these women do not fit the “damaged goods hypothesis.” “In terms of psychological characteristics, porn actresses had higher levels of self-esteem, positive feelings, social support, sexual satisfaction, and spirituality compared to the matched group,” the study titled “Pornography Actresses: An Assessment of the Damaged Goods Hypothesis” concluded. The study compared 177 porn actresses to a...

(CNN) - Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum hinted Monday he may see another presidential run in his future. "I'm open to that possibility," the Republican said when asked on CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight" about a 2016 White House bid. – Follow the Ticker on Twitter: @PoliticalTicker "But we're a long way..." he added, pausing, then continuing, "I'm focused right now on trying to stay involved in the fray and make sure that we do the right thing up on Capitol Hill right now." Santorum proved a tough opponent to Mitt Romney during the Republican presidential primary, ultimately forcing the contest...
  • GRANTHAM: We're Headed For A Disaster Of Biblical Proportions

    Business Insider ^ | 21 November 2012 | Henry Blodgett
Last year, legendary investor Jeremy Grantham of GMO published a treatise on exploding commodity prices. He also offered a startlingly depressing outlook for the future of humanity. Grantham believes the world has undergone a permanent "paradigm shift" in which the number of people on Earth has finally and permanently outstripped the planet's ability to support us. The phenomenon of ever-more humans using a finite supply of natural resources cannot continue forever, Grantham says--and the prices of metals, hydrocarbons (oil), and food are now beginning to reflect that. Grantham believes that the planet can only sustainably support about 1.5 billion humans,...

A British engineer who moved to South Africa after "falling in love with the country" has been brutally murdered on his remote farmstead. Mr Preece's daughter-in-law has told how a gang of three robbers poisoned the couple's large pack of guard dogs before breaking into the house. Since the country's first fully democratic elections in 1994, more than 3,000 white, mainly Afrikaans, farmers have been killed in their homes. The so-called "farm attacks" are part of the wave of criminality that has engulfed the country in recent years, something criminologists blame of a number of factors...

Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi has agreed to pull back decrees announced last Thursday granting himself sweeping new powers. The Islamist leader originally told a panel of Egypt's top judges that he would not change his stance on the edicts, insisting that he was acting within his rights. But according to a report by a television network allied with the Muslim Brotherhood, an agreement worked out with top judicial authorities was reached late Monday. The decrees had barred the judiciary from disbanding the Constitutional Assembly or the Upper House of the Parliament, placing the presidency and the committee writing the new Constitution...

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A new analysis shows gun-related violence has actually fallen steadily in Virginia since 2006, despite the record number of firearm sales. VCU professor Thomas Baker compared state crime data for 2006 through 2011 with gun dealer sales estimated by the Richmond Times-Dispatch. The research shows the number of guns purchased soared to 73% in the six year period, while gun related crimes fell 24%. Baker says the comparisons seem to contradict the premise that guns lead to more crime. Copyright 2012 WWBT NBC12.

Cananea, Mexico (CNN) -- In a remote town in northern Mexico, a 10-year-old-boy is struggling with his homework. His name is Oscar Castellanos, and the fifth-grader is getting extra help from his father because he's having trouble adjusting to his new school. The student enrolled at Leona Vicario Elementary in the town of Cananea is technically a foreigner in his father's land. Oscar was born in Arizona and is a U.S. citizen. He recites the U.S. Pledge of Allegiance by memory without hesitation. His English accent is that of a boy raised in the American Southwest. Oscar's family moved back...

In 1996, Kathryn Lehman was a soon-to-be married lawyer working for Republicans in the House of Representatives. One of her major accomplishments: helping to write the law that bans federal recognition of same-sex marriages. Today, Ms. Lehman, 53, no longer has a husband, and no longer identifies as straight. And she is a lobbyist for Freedom to Marry, which is devoted to overturning the very law she helped write, the Defense of Marriage Act. But Ms. Lehman is still a fervent Republican. “I’m trying to break the stereotype that all gays and lesbians, especially lesbians, are Democrats,” she said. Although...

    Self-vanity
My goodness, I got a tingle up my leg just now, listening to Rand Paul vigorously advocate for cutting taxes to grow the economy at 4% or greater. And he also pushed back on the dem premise that only by raising taxes can we cut the deficit. On the contrary, he strongly insisted that the Bush tax rates resulted in INCREASED revenues to the federal government for years. He also confirmed that he would not vote to raise ANY taxes, and did not buy into Greta's query about the whole idea of cutting deductions to raise revenue either. This was...
  • Flight Records Say Russia Sent Syria Tons of Cash

This past summer, as the Syrian economy began to unravel and the military pressed hard against an armed rebellion, a Syrian government plane ferried what flight records describe as more than 200 tons of “bank notes” from Moscow. The records of overflight requests were obtained by ProPublica. The flights occurred during a period of escalating violence in a conflict that has left tens of thousands of people dead since fighting broke out in March 2011. The regime of Bashar al-Assad is increasingly in need of cash to stay afloat and continue financing the military’s efforts to crush the uprising.
  • Joy Behar’s Moral Quandary: 'Isn't it a Little Racist to Call it Black Friday?'

There's nothing like tuning into an episode of "The View" for a little exploration of social sensitivities in the modern American culture. In keeping with that tradition, on Black Friday, a term used to describe the Friday following Thanksgiving, which is the beginning of the traditional Christmas shopping season, the use of the word "black" to mark this occasion was a topic of discussion on "The View" for its potential "racist" implications.

The White House expressed "significant and serious" concerns on Monday about Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi's shock power grab last week. But press secretary Jay Carney carefully avoided offering any criticism of a leader who just one week ago seemed to be on President Barack Obama's speed dial as they worked on a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas. Carney repeatedly addressed the political crisis in Egypt in relatively dry and mild diplo-speak, while emphasizing that Morsi "played an important role" in crafting the cease-fire and deserved "credit" for that. There was no "we strongly condemn" and no "we denounce," and even...
  • Portland school sees racism in peanut butter and jelly sandwiches

In an effort to combat perceived discrimination, one Portland school seems to have gone off the deep end by suggesting peanut butter and jelly sandwiches carry racist connotations, Twitchy reported Monday. According to the Portland Tribune, Verenice Gutierrez, principal of Harvey Scott K-8 School, "picks up on the subtle language of racism" on a daily basis. “What about Somali or Hispanic students, who might not eat sandwiches?” Gutierrez asked. “Another way would be to say: ‘Americans eat peanut butter and jelly, do you have anything like that?’ Let them tell you. Maybe they eat torta. Or pita.”

School plans to layoff 25 faculty and staff members The University of the District of Columbia is asking the city for $4 million to pay for the severance packages of dozens of professors and staff members it wants to lay off. UDC plans to lay off 25 faculty and staff members, and eliminate seven departments and two dozen majors. School officials say it's expensive to eliminate positions because of a strong union presence. The school already eliminated 30 positions. A university spokesperson said the school expects the city to pay for the severance packages because the city ordered UDC to...

OLYMPIA, Wash. — Gov. Now the Democrat, two months away from leaving Washington state government, is looking to finalize one more big agreement.

A man's quest to overcome his fear of rejection by making at least one crazy request a day for 100 days was throttled last week when a Krispy Kreme employee accepted his order for five doughnuts linked together in the colors and shape of the Olympic symbol. "It's only my third day and I have already failed," Jia Jiang wrote on his 100 Days of Rejection Therapy blog. "But I did so with such amazement and happiness." When the 31-year-old approached the register to make his "specialized" doughnut order, Jackie Braun, a shift leader at an Austin, Texas, Krispy Kreme,...
