DILWORTH – Police arrested a man here after they say he used a backpack lined with tinfoil to bypass a store’s security equipment and steal over $100 in merchandise, according to a WDAY news report. Police say Antonio Ramirez, 21, stole $133 in items from Wal-Mart here. Ramirez faces felony charges and up to five years in prison. Using a bag lined with tinfoil to circumvent alarm systems automatically escalates the charge from a misdemeanor to a felony, WDAY reports.

On closer examination, it turns out that young voters, aged 18-29, overwhelmingly supported Romney. But only the white ones. According to Pew Research, 54 percent of white voters under 30 voted for Romney and only 41 percent for Obama. That's the same percentage Reagan got from the entire white population in 1980....

Because next year's inauguration falls on a Sunday, President Obama will hold only a small, private swearing-in ceremony on Jan. 20, and will hold a big public redo the next day. The Inaugural Committee announced Thursday that activities will last three days: a day of service on Saturday, the small private ceremony on Sunday, and the public swearing-in, parade and balls on Monday.

A missionary Islamic sect has been denied permission to build a controversial mega-mosque with four times the capacity of St. Paul’s Cathedral, it was announced today. The Tablighi Jamaat group saw its plan to build the 9,000-capacity venue in West Ham, east London, rejected by members of Newham Borough Council at a planning meeting. If permission had been granted, Abbey Mills Mosque—also known as the Riverine Center—would have become one of the biggest Islamic centers in Britain and western Europe. …

In a slam to human rights in the United States, on Tuesday, Senators unanimously passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) 2013, including potential dictatorial capacity to deploy the U.S. military on U.S. soil to arrest citizens. One amendment to the 2013 version of the defense spending bill unanimously passed Tuesday by the Senate clarified the right to trial of “citizens and permanent legal residents” detained under the relevant sections of the revamped measure, but according to civil and human rights experts, this amendment created the potential for even more rights violations than NDAA 2012. The amendment, "the Feinstein-Lee Amendment,"...

Could First Lady Michelle Obama go the route of Hillary Clinton? It’s only hypothetical this point, but a survey done by Public Policy Polling gives Mrs. Obama the lead over Sen. Mark Kirk 51 to 40 percent, should she choose to challenge Kirk in 2016 for an Illinois senate seat.  From PPP. If Michelle Obama decided she wanted to follow the Hillary Clinton route once her husband leaves office in 2016 and go to the Senate, she'd have the upper hand on Mark Kirk. She leads him 51/40 in a hypothetical head to head. Kirk's approval numbers are ok with...

Just after 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, the Senate did it again. By a vote of 98-0 (two senators abstained) lawmakers in the upper chamber approved the Fiscal Year 2013 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Not a single senator objected to the passage once again of a law that purports to permit the president, supported by nothing more substantial than his own belief that the suspect poses a threat to national security, to deploy the U.S. military to arrest an American living in America. As The New American reported, an amendment to the 2013 version of the defense spending bill passed by...

While talk of the United States tumbling over a so-called “fiscal cliff” dominates news cycles in the nation’s capital and other major cities, on the other side of the planet, the United Nations is quietly but relentlessly pressing to take control of the Internet. It is being aided in this illicit endeavor by various totalitarian regimes, and by many smaller states that routinely use their strength in numbers to bash America. The vehicle chosen by the internationalists for this power grab is the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), one of the many aged bureaucracies that long ago lost any degree...

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich says it would be better for Republicans to take that dive off the so-called fiscal cliff on Dec. 31, rather than “cave in” to President Barack Obama on tax increases. The Georgia Republican also suggested that GOP leaders in Congress “should be prepared” if necessary to force a government shutdown to get the deep spending cuts they want. “I think it’s a huge mistake for House Republicans to cave in and try to find some kind of desperate solution that doesn't work,” Gingrich told Fox News’ Sean Hannity Wednesday night. …

A cadet quitting West Point less than six months before graduation says he could no longer be part of a culture that promotes prayers and religious activities and disrespects nonreligious cadets. Blake Page announced his decision to quit the U.S. Military Academy this week, telling The Associated Press that he could not become an officer because of clinical depression played a role in his public protest against what he calls the unconstitutional prevalence of religion in the military. "I've been trying since I found that out: What can I do? What can I possibly do to initiate the change that...

Not sure it's legit to actually post the cartoon, but here's the basics: He depicts a right-winger debating the "good guy" a.k.a. the cartoonist himself about cutting government spending. Right-winger sez when a family spends too much they cut back to balance the budget. The "good guy" sez "Or they can get a job which makes more money".

Afghan President Hamid Karzai blamed the U.S. and NATO forces on Thursday for some of the violence and the brunt of corruption that is rampant in his war-torn country. Karzai bluntly criticized allied tactics, declaring that terrorists won't be beaten "by attacking Afghan villages and Afghan homes." Speaking in an exclusive interview with NBC News, Karzai also said he had written a letter to President Barack Obama warning that Afghans will not permit American and NATO troops to stay past 2014 unless the U.S. turns over hundreds of detainees held at Bagram Air Base and a nearby facility. "I have...
