DILWORTH – Police arrested a man here after they say he used a backpack lined with tinfoil to bypass a store’s security equipment and steal over $100 in merchandise, according to a WDAY news report. Police say Antonio Ramirez, 21, stole $133 in items from Wal-Mart here. Ramirez faces felony charges and up to five years in prison. Using a bag lined with tinfoil to circumvent alarm systems automatically escalates the charge from a misdemeanor to a felony, WDAY reports.

The Inaugural Committee announced Thursday that activities will last three days: a day of service on Saturday, the small private ceremony on Sunday, and the public swearing-in, parade and balls on Monday.

In a slam to human rights in the United States, on Tuesday, Senators unanimously passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) 2013, including potential dictatorial capacity to deploy the U.S. military on U.S. soil to arrest citizens. One amendment to the 2013 version of the defense spending bill unanimously passed Tuesday by the Senate clarified the right to trial of “citizens and permanent legal residents” detained under the relevant sections of the revamped measure, but according to civil and human rights experts, this amendment created the potential for even more rights violations than NDAA 2012. The amendment, "the Feinstein-Lee Amendment,"...

The fiscal-cliff negotiations seem to be foundering on Barack Obama’s insistence on higher tax rates on high earners and House Republican leaders’ insistence on opposing them. The president believes he has a mandate from voters for his position, and House Republicans believe they have a mandate from voters for theirs. The real argument here is over the size and scope of government. Under Barack Obama, federal outlays — the technical term for federal spending — have increased to over 24 percent of gross domestic product. That’s a higher level of federal spending than in any year since 1946, when we...

Democrats are exulting in their narrow victory on Nov 6, saying that ObamaCare is “now a certainty,” and the “best is yet to come” as they implement their glorious promises of healthcare for all. The fact is, however, that key parts of the Act are not in effect yet and may be blocked at the state level.

  • Obama’s Kingdom of Fairness: Forget the debt. It's the role of gov't to soak the undeserving rich.

We are still borrowing more than $1 trillion a year. Barack Obama has added more than $5 trillion to the national debt in his first term alone. Such massive borrowing is unsustainable. Someone somehow at some time has to pay it back. Obama would agree. He once alleged that George W. Bush’s much smaller deficits were “irresponsible” and “unpatriotic.” Obama himself vowed to cut the budget deficit in half by the end of his first term. Instead, Obama’s annual deficits have never gone below $1 trillion. Three ways to establish a long-term trajectory toward a balanced budget were under discussion....

After dabbling in creationism earlier this month, Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., clarified that he does believe that scientists know the Earth is “at least 4.5 billion years old.” “There is no scientific debate on the age of the earth. I mean, it’s established pretty definitively, it’s at least 4.5 billion years old,” Rubio told Mike Allen of Politico. ”I was referring to a theological debate, which is a pretty healthy debate. “The theological debate is, how do you reconcile with what science has definitively established with what you may think your faith teaches,” Rubio continued. “Now for me, actually, when...

You won´t hear much about it elsewhere today. But from some downtown Chicago law offices will come the distinct sound of one more nail being driven into the coffin of Barack Obama´s green energy giveaway loans. A123 Systems will be auctioned off. It´s a Michigan lithium ion battery maker which declared bankruptcy back in October, the same day it cashed another $1 million check from the crack Obama investment team. A123 is one of those notorious bad bets like Solyndra that the Obama administration poured billions offices taxpayer dollars into.… A123, an 11-year-old firm founded to manufacture batteries for electric cars...

If you don’t lock up your guns – or at least keep them unloaded – when you have guests, you could be sued when something goes wrong. One Vermont family is finding out just how horribly wrong things can go: They are being sued for wrongful death in the wake of an accidental shooting between two house guests, which left one of them dead. The suit alleges that the family was negligent, because the weapon involved in the incident was loaded, unsecured and belonged to a family member. Tragic Facts Jeffrey Charbonneau, 24, and his friend Nick Bell, 25, ran...

Ice sheets at both of Earth's poles are melting rapidly, and the rate of loss has increased since the 1990s, a new NASA-sponsored study shows. The study, which combines extensive data from aircraft and satellites, is believed to be the most precise assessment of its kind.
