Delegates at UN climate talks in Qatar have agreed to extend the Kyoto Protocol until 2020, avoiding a major new setback. The deal, agreed by nearly 200 nations, keeps the protocol alive as the only legally binding plan for combating global warming. However, it only covers developed nations whose share of world greenhouse gas emissions is less than 15%. The US - a major polluter - has never ratified the original 1997 protocol. The agreement had been due to expire later this year.

An Algerian Christian sentenced to five years in jail for sharing his faith is still waiting to learn if he will have to serve the time. That’s because the appeals court judge in the Algerian city of Oran has decided to delay a decision of whether to overturn the conviction given to Karim Siaghi, also known as Siaghi Krimo. Krimo was sentenced in 2011 to five years in jail and fined about $2,500 after being accused by a Muslim shopkeeper of handing a Christian CD to a man on the street. In a press statement, Christian human rights group Open...

An unsuspecting supermarket employee got an alarming surprise this week. The worker at an Albertsons store in Roswell, New Mexico, opened a container of frozen ribs Wednesday and found a .38 super semi-auto handgun along with seven rounds of ammunition packaged with the meat. He brought the firearm and ammo to a local police department at about 2pm that afternoon and authorities are beginning to piece together some preliminary clues, a police public relations liaison said. However, since the unidentified employee cleaned the pistol before turning it in, tracing its origin has not been easy, authorities say. There are no...

Lincoln County residents can now apply for and purchase gun permits through the Sheriff’s Office website. The agency recently made the switch to online applications to “provide better customer service” and “streamline the permit process,” ultimately cutting back on the public’s flow of traffic in and out of the Sheriff’s Office and increasing the system’s level of convenience for residents, according to a press release. Prior to moving the permit process online, citizens had to make multiple trips to the Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff David Carpenter told the Times-News on Thursday.

    1) Can anyone tell me which Supreme Court Justice will swear 0bama in in the proposed private swearing in ceremony . Something unusual is happening again this time and many people feel he may be sworn in using the koran but we will not know for sure . 2) Will they by law be required to use the same exact oath that previous presidents have been sworn in under requiring them to " preserve , protect , and defend the Constitution of the United States"? There are "two" questions I need to be answered . Thank you . . .

Robert F. Kennedy Jr: Fox News Has Divided America In a Way Not Seen Since the Civil War By Noel Sheppard Created 12/08/2012 - 11:13am Robert F. Kennedy Jr said of Fox News Friday, "It's divided our country in a way that we haven't been divided probably since the Civil War." This occurred during an online video interview with the Huffington Post (video follows with transcript and commentary): ROBERT F. KENNEDY JR: There’s two things happening. One is the influence of big money in politics, and the other is the right-wing control of the American media, particularly starting with Fox...

USDA chief: Rural America becoming less relevant By MARY CLARE JALONICK Associated Press WASHINGTON (AP) -- Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has some harsh words for rural America: It's "becoming less and less relevant," he says. A month after an election that Democrats won even as rural parts of the country voted overwhelmingly Republican, the former Democratic governor of Iowa told farm belt leaders this past week that he's frustrated with their internecine squabbles and says they need to be more strategic in picking their political fights.

What is it about Abraham Lincoln that has captured the hearts and minds of the American public since his assassination nearly 150 years ago? After all, one could argue -- rather persuasively -- that our 16th president was the least qualified candidate ever elected to high national office; in fact, his public service record included just four terms in the Illinois state legislative, one unremarkable term in the House of Representatives, and two unsuccessful bids for the US Senate. In addition, he had virtually no executive experience and, as his contemporaries invariably pointed out, Lincoln seemed wholly unfit to lead...

Initial Reaction The establishment report of +146,000 jobs was about what most expected. However, beneath the surface, this report looks grim. The household survey shows a loss of 122,000 jobs. The unemployment rate dropped by .2% because the labor force fell by 350,000 and those "not in the labor force" rose by a whopping 542,000. Thus, we are back to the previous 2012 pattern of witnessing unemployment rate drop largely because of a massive increase of those "not" in the labor force. No Effect From Hurricane Sandy Hurricane Sandy had no effect. The BLS reports "Our survey response rates in...

It’s a bad omen for free enterprise, prosperity and liberty when normally warring special interest groups such as big business and progressive activists agree on public policy. During President Obama’s first term big business interests led by the pharmaceutical industry joined the union lobby in successfully making ObamaCare the law of the land. Shortly after Obama’s re-election, history may be repeating itself this time regarding energy policy. While it’s known that politics makes strange bedfellows none can be more bizarre than former White House green jobs czar Van Jones and Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson agreeing on a carbon tax....

The planet Neptune has never been seen by anyone looking at the night sky through just their own eyes. So distant is it from the sun that the light it reflects toward the Earth is so faint that the planet is effectively invisible in the darkness of night. And yet, the outermost large planet of our solar system was discovered by astronomers who knew exactly where to look.... Following William Herschel's discovery of Uranus in 1781, the world's astronomers went to work to observe and describe the seventh planet of the solar system, taking detailed measurements of its trajectory in...

Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal, making his first ever visit to the Gaza Strip, vowed on Saturday never to recognize Israel and said his Islamist group would never abandon its claim to all Israeli territory. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is taking public comments on its website until December 31, with regard to how it should determine what types of projectiles meet the "sporting purposes" exception to the federal "armor piercing ammunition" law. At this time, the question centers primarily around rifle-caliber projectiles made of metals harder than lead, such as the Barnes Bullets solid brass hunting bullets. Under the law, adopted in 1986, "armor piercing ammunition" is defined as "a projectile or projectile core which may be used in a handgun and which is constructed entirely (excluding the presence of traces...

Hey, I’ve got a neat idea — why don’t we just keep growing the government, until we all can have government jobs? That can work, right? Seventy-three percent of the new civilian jobs created in the United States over the last five months are in government, according to official data published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. … In the same five-month period since June, the number of people employed by government increased by 621,000 to 20,559,000. These 621,000 new government jobs created in the last five months equal 73.3 percent of the 847,000 new jobs created overall.

Now that Barack Obama is safely ensconced in the White House for another four years, several items which should have been noticed or revealed before Election Day have come to the fore. Collectively, they tell us two things: that the pre-election economy was worse than voters were led to believe, and that the prospects for meaningful improvement under the current regime are bleak at best. Additionally, in at least one instance, economic activity itself was likely manipulated.*snip*The probable gamesmanship occurred at Government/General Motors, which is still effectively under Obama administration control, still on track to saddle U.S. taxpayers with a...

This segment of the interview centers around the inconsistencies in both Sabryna and Tracy’s testimony regarding their son’s voice. The fact that the State withheld information regarding who was in attendance during an earlier meeting where Serino questioned Martin is more than troubling. Officer Bill Irwin, the same person who did the voice stress analysis on George, was sitting in on the earlier questioning of Martin…a corroborating fact that, until now, was unknown to the defense. Why did Sanford Police Capt. O’Connor and the State keep this information from the defense until they were deposed? O’Mara states it’s the same...
